I spoke with the manager Chris Stowers about purchasing a pair of marble roper boots per conversation I decided to purchase a pair. I received them and one had a white line across the toe (defect) I called chris and he said that he would replace them. I sent them back and instead of replacing them he polished them as if I would not know. We have all our accounts with Abbey including mortgage, two business and two current accounts. Both the business and personal side have seriously let us down. Business banking took over a month to get a new debit card to us and we were unable to use our business account for that period of time. Complete lack of customer service and inability to relay correct information. We are moving all our business from Abbey after 20 years with them. read full review »

I was surfing something else, I did not intend to sign up for anything like this, next thing I know my bank account has had $49.95 taken twice and $99 taken once. I called them when I saw it on my statement, I told them I was going to submit a fraud claim to my bank and was told a refund would be done, this was on July 15th 2008. I was given a confirmation number for all three monies deducted without permission from my bank account. One refund of 49.95 did come back but they still have $148.95 of my money. This company called and told me we were up to renew our 411 information. I asked if we do business with them every year. The man said yes. I signed nothing. When I got the bill, I saw their invoice looked home made and was suspicious. This is not through the phone company. They made it sound like they were. I faxed them a letter stating that I do not intend to pay for this. They later called and said the bill was due and that I gave a verbal agreement. We really want them to be good because of their ethical policy, but nothing can hide the fact that they are a complete shambles at times. I have experienced incorrect charges, mail sent to the wrong address, repeatedly, duplicated transactions on statements, and regular failure of the online banking system. After several years of acceptable service I think Abbey have gone downhill of late. In the payments section of the web site you can instruct that a payment be made on a future date. This I did for a payment of £29.90 on 11 August. On checking on 12th August I discovered that the payment was still 'pending' so I called the call center. The operator made that payment on the spot. Cashback promotion: I followed every requirement to meet the terms of their agreement. I had also sent my change of address by registered mail in anticipation that they would change their address as they stated in their conditions. I never received notice that they had done so as was also noted in their conditions. A&L are the worst bank I have ever dealt with. Having my business bank account with them is the biggest mistake I have made with my business, they have caused unacceptable stress and confusion, and time-wasting in my business. Customer service is non-existent. I have to call a Call Center to get anything done. I've banked with them only 3 months and am utterly disillusioned. Paying in involves a trip to the town, (no local branches) queue up in Halifax branch behind 20 or thirty people, then get to the counter to be treated like dirt when they see your BOS paying in book. Then they saunter off to get this ridiculous plastic bag that you have to write your sort code, account no, etc on. Then you have to put the cheque/cash inside. They won't touch it! (Why?). I started another 12 month contract with a promise of a reduced fee package. Since then they have consistently overcharged me every month in my opinion. I have to phone them which usually takes a good 15mins (@5p a minute) to sort it out. I get told it will be credited on my next bill. My next bill arrives, not only has it not been credited I've been overcharged again! So I got my bills together highlighted all the overcharging etc and with a stern letter sent it to them. When I call between business hours of 9:00am - 6:00 pm ET, either I do not get connected, i.e. dead line or if I do connect, I get a recorded message that I am to wait for a customer service representative, then after waiting, I would get a second recording stating that I have reached them during non-business hours and that I should call back. I really would not recommend Toucan as a provider, especially as Waitrose broadband which I switched to provide a substantially quicker connection, a much better customer service and technical support, which is also free to call. Primus were unclear in charging. Absolutely hopeless technically. Trying to set up at home with Vista was nearly impossible. By the end, I knew all help line staff by name. They'd had me downloading, installing, uninstalling. Finally after MONTHS, they conceded the problems were with their server. E.mail was also useless. After weeks of trying to set up with their help, their server crashed catastrophically, and all info was lost. Price fluctuates monthly and inexplicably. At one point we couldn't dial any 0800 numbers. Broadband service kept disappearing. In total, I must have spent HOURS on to their help line. read full review »

The service I received is poor, it's hard to get a response to queries. Response to emails is hard, I had no response for weeks, only then when I suggested that I was going to complain to OFCOM even then it didn't provide any answers, I found it was very impersonal. I do not recommend breathe.com provider. Also, just remember that if you wish to cancel your account from them, and you are told to ring the 60p a minute phone line, rather than cancel online, DON'T! There is nothing in the contract saying that you have to pay to leave them, which is what you are doing by being forced to ring their extortionate phone line. Just cancel your debit/credit card if you need to, and get a new one. read full review »
