Sony Blu Ray Reviews

Lea and Steve Harper March 10, 2011
Network Upgrades
I purchased my Blu Ray player from Sony to play DVD's and to download movies from Netflix. I got much more than I bargained for!! Each time I upgrade online, I get more and more crap downloaded onto my tv that I do not want. The most recent was an icon that showed up for free movies from "FEARNET." That was the end of it - I did not want horror movies so easily accessible to my 10-year-old grandchild in my home. So I simply thought I could delete myself, but no! There is no way. After spending an entire morning talking with Sony customer service and technical reps (which I was impressed with the ability to talk with a live person at least), it was finally admitted that there was no way to remove what has been downloaded onto my tv without my permission! I was so upset! To me, this is the same as performing a Windows live update on my computer, and getting horror movies and porn onto my laptop without my permission. What is even worse is I cannot get rid of it! I asked Sony to allow me to return the Blu Ray for my money back. If I would have known that I would get this awful stuff on my tv without my permission, I would never have purchased the unit. I am telling everyone about this, and everyone agrees this is not right, and they will not purchase SONY Blu Ray for this reason. Apparently, Sony has done some kind a deal with a third party affiliate that allows this to happen. As a consumer, this is unwanted marketing on a daily basis in my home - it is an affront. As a citizen, this is a violation of my civil rights by removing my ability to decide what I want accessible on my tv. Sure, I could change parental controls, but that would also apply to the Netflix movies that I download and subsequently delete after watching if inappropriate for a child. This deal with a third-party affiliate should be illegal. I know that Microsoft would never get away with automatically downloading such crap onto a person's computer each time an update is needed - how can Sony get away with this? Especially considering there is no way to delete it after it is done!!!
