Deceptive practices to get a company to sign up for ads
Yellow Pages Local Directory - YellowPages.com
Yellowpages.com uses deceptive practices to get a company to sign up for ads. In fact they out and out lie. As far as they are concerned, it's OK to lie about the hits and calls we would get as a result of their ad in the "Yellowpages.com but not Ok to cancel the ad. All bullshit. We got our first report and it was all the times I had checked on the web site to see if they had made the changes we requested on the ad. They put things in our ad that were not true. It takes weeks to get a correction and then they screw up the correction. We really dislike these people and feel they are crooks. Caveat emptor!

Failure to deliver on contract!
We signed a 12 month contract with yellowpages.com in which we were guaranteed 90 clicks per month (1080 clicks per year). The cost is $391/month. Our first three months we got 43, 15, & 5 clicks respectively. Although the company is not performing on the contract, they are not willing to let us out of it. They will not refund our money and claim that if we don't get the clicks by the end of the year they will extend our ad for free until we get them. I'm not interested in paying almost $400/month for clicks I might get 2 years from now. They seem to think that I have to uphold my end of the contract, bot they do not have uphold theirs. I now have to get an attorney involved.

Failure to deliver on promised advertising
My company had contracted with yellowpages.com for promotion of my website. I'd specied in the work order that my advertisement would be restricted to direct advertisement to 5 large metropolitan areas and absolutely not to be dumped on an obscure website for national coverage. This was promised to me by my account representative.
This did not happen and Yellowpages.com would never return my call to resolve this issue. As far as they were concerned I'd pay $207 per month and that didn't include promotion in any of the 5 cities on their own website. Needless to say this garbage promotion has never brought in even a single client.
My understanding is that there are links to the dump site on other websites. What difference does this mean you might ask? It's the difference of being found on pages 1, 2 or 3 on Google or maybe page 2,046 on Google.
Yellowpages.com did send me written proof that they had received my order as I'd requested but refused to work with me to correct their mistake.
I called day after day but never received a response. I finally stopped making payments when they wouldn't return my calls. They've turned my account over to collection and I've had to hire an attorney to counter sue them. I would NOT recommend this company for any type of website promotion.

Illegal billing practices
YellowPages.com promised my company, Adventure Films International, more than a year ago that we would be receiving regular stats with our new contract. I periodically checked the service by running a search on my business classification, but not once during the entire term of our contract did my business ever show up in a search - it would only show up if you searched for Adventure Films International, Inc. - and not once in a year did we receive any stats. We were hassled by phone every two hours starting in middle May 2006 for the contract renewal, even though I repeatedly told them I was dissatisfied and would not renew and they began calling me every hour. I could not even conduct business because of their incessant calls. They promised to fax a form from Yellowpages.com to cancel the account, but they never did send it. I wrote my account information on a FAX Cover Sheet and wrote PLEASE CANCEL MY ACCOUNT IMMEDIATELY and faxed it to YellowPages.com. A couple of weeks later they pulled out their regular monthly payment out of my business checking account, and they continued to withdraw monthly debits in spite of repeated attempts to get them to stop. They continued this for months after my contract with them expired. I eventually had to close out the checking account in order to prevent them from making monthly unauthorized withdrawals. That was about 4 months ago. The harrassing phone calls come a dozen or so times a day. Yesterday, I got a threatening letter saying they are going to sue me. They are now claiming that our cancellation was never received.
I want the seven months of payments September, 2006 through March, 2007 investigated and returned. I want the phone calls to cease immediately. This is a cease and desist order to the fullest. Stop calling our business line, stop taking payments that were NOT authorized and return the payments you took without authorization and leave us alone. This account is CANCELLED and has been for almost a year now. I have already contacted the FTC about this and they stated that YellowPages.com had recently agreed to a settlement for similar charges of illegal billing practices, and they were extremely interested to learn that they are continuing their illegal practices.

Incessant phone calls after contract end!
YellowPages.com promised us Delle Electric, LLC a year ago that we would be receiving regular stats with our newly agreed-to contract. Not once in a year did we receive any stats. We were hassled by phone every two hours starting in middle May 2007 for the contract renewal. When I stated that we would not be renewing were then called every hour and a faxed form from Yellowpages.com to cancel the account never showed cancellation instructions but blocked out amounts for the yearly contract they were hoping to procure. I wrote CANCEL ACCOUNT IMMEDIATELY and faxed back. Three weeks later they pulled out their regular monthly payment out of contract and a phone call to the rep was met with a suggestion that either this was our last payment (which is not since our contract was over) or there was a problem. This afternoon, June 19, 2007 we started getting phone calls from Yellowpages.com again about renewing our contract and paying the fees. It seems our cancellation has been ignored.
I want the payment of June 15 2007 investigated and returned. I want the phone calls to cease immediately. This is a cease and desist order to the fullest. Stop calling our business line, stop taking payments that were NOT authorized and return the payment you took without authorization and leave us alone. This account is CANCELED.
