Billing after cancellation
We've had XM radio service in my wife's car since March 2005. She liked the service so much that she set up automatic renewal on a credit card each year. We never really paid any attention to the billing statement until this past June (2010) when the statement indicated that they could not bill the credit card on file because it had expired. We decided to scrutinize the bill closely and realized XM had begun charging a "music royalty fee", something we hadn't noticed in the past...of course, this was our fault. I contacted XM's listener care dept about the charge and was told it could not be waived. My wife decided she no longer wanted XM service so we politely canceled.
Within a week we received another bill from XM, which we disregarded because we had canceled the service earlier and determined that this bill may have been generated before the cancellation could take affect or maybe XM was giving us another chance to change our minds. In the meantime XM still had not turned off service to our radio. A third bill arrived about a month later showing an adjustment (credit) on our account but also an outstanding balance of $69.09. I contacted XM again and explained to the foriegn accented person that we had canceled the service in June. The person explained that service to our radio was still being provided and that we were responsible for paying for that service. I told them I was not paying for something I had canceled and that I had no control over when THEY turned off that service. The foreign XM rep indicated agreement and said they would dismiss the outstanding balance. Service to the XM radio finally quit in late august.
Sept 15, 2010 - A fourth bill arrived with the same $69.09 balance. We again contacted XM listener care dept and spoke to "Marie" who passed us on to "Monica" in the retention dept. Monica was very understanding and apologetic and promptly agreed to dismiss the 69.09 balance and told us to disregard any further bills.
Dec 23, 2010 (Today) - I received a call from a person indicating that they worked for a collection agency which had been hired by XM to collect the $73.49 outstanding balance I owed (not sure were the extra $4.40 came from). I explained to the caller that this had been resolved several months ago and that XM had agreed to dismiss the remaining balance. She indicated that the balance had NOT been dismissed and expected payment NOW. I had no details handy of the conversations we'd had with XM previously but explained that the service had been canceled in June and that I was not paying her or XM anything.
I, AGAIN, contacted XM listener care and spoke to "Angel", another person with a thick foreign accent. I explained everything once again and after being placed on hold for 20 minutes while she "looked up my account" was told that there was nothing she could do. I asked to speak to her supervisor and was placed on hold for another 15-20 minutes. When "Angel" came back on the phone I was told that the supervisor was not available to speak but said there was nothing they could do. Again, I insisted on speaking to someone who could resolve this issue and again I sat on hold for 15-20 minutes. Miraculously, when "Angel" came back on the phone she indicated that they had resolved everything; the outstanding balance, the collection calls, etc...
Based on what I've read on this site while sitting on hold waiting for her to get back to me...I have no doubt that "Angel" told me everything has been taken care of just to get rid of me and I'll continue to receive calls collectors and/or bills until I finally pay...maybe even after!
The truth is...we like satellite radio and have had no complaints about what we received for our subscription. Driving coast-to-coast knowing you don't have to search for something to listen to is great! But after the way XM handled this simple cancellation I'll never go back to them. BTW...I have Sirius service in my other vehicle and when it's subscription is up I will cancel it as well! Hopefully I wont have the same problems then...but I'm not counting on it!

Fraudulent billing
So I have a mysterious charge on my credit card from XM radio. I called and after waiting 15 minutes on hold and never talking to some one they hung up on me. So I called back. I just started saying operator until I got someone. She barely speaks English. I had to ask 6 time to speak to her supervisor. I originally paid a 1 year subscription for XM radio in March of 2010 for everything radio, weather, traffic. Now in December 2010 I have charges coming on my credit card. It hasn't been 1 year. They are trying to tell me the nav traffic and nav weather are extra. I said fine. Discontinue them. Well then we have to renew you for 1 more year for your radio. So what your saying is I have to pay or pay. This is complete BS and not very consumer friendly.
I just hung up. They promise to call me back. That will never happen. I t took 47 minutes and I don't think I made any progress. Time to call the credit card company.

price changing, unauthorized billing
I had been with XM for two years and was paying $100 dollars a year for service. I got a phone call in september informing me that my credit card was expired and that my renewal date was coming up in november. The operator told me that I should provide the new card number so my service would roll over uninterrupted. She also told me that the new yearly price was $170, to which I said I was not willing to pay. She then put me on hold for a minute and came back saying there was a promotion where I could pay the original $100 dollar price. I agreed, gave her my new card number and signed up for another year. About a month later I got an email saying that my service was about to expire and that the $170 fee would be taken off my credit card automatically. So I called back, and was told that there never was any $100 promotion and that they had no record of any such conversation. I said it had to have taken place because they now conveniently had my brand new credit card number. To which they responded that it I was mistaken, and it was the same card I had been using for the past two years!! I became fed up and told them not to renew my service at the end of the term. Low and behold I recently got a bill on my credit card for $70 from XM. I called in and asked what it was for and they said it was a cancellation fee! I spoke to a supervisor and had to explain his own terms and conditions to him that say they CAN NOT charge a cancellation fee to someone cancelling after their contract is over. Only people who cancel before the end of their term can be charged a fee. He "agreed" with me and told me my account would be credited in 2 to 3 business days. Still waiting... DO NOT PURCHASE XM RADIO!!!

Never Received Radio but Billed
I was billed for my xm radio then received a phone call from XM saying the sales person took my information incorrectly. I then was refunded that amount and charged a new amount that was $9 more expensive. 3 weeks later I never received my radio (which was a gift for my husband that was already late), so I called and was told that the radio was shipped to the wrong address and that I should call UPS. I explained to the person that UPS will not speak to me since I am not the sender and have no tracking information. She said she would take care of it and after still not receiving the radio, I called again this Saturday. I was on 2 phones for a total of 1 hour and 25 minutes. I was never put on the phone with a supervisor and they continued to tell me they could not find my account, when just a week earlier they were able to find the account. Now I am left with no radio and a credit card charge dated 10/27 for the radio. I had to tell my husband about the gift since it is now 6 weeks late. I am FURIOUS! This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. All of the people are not located in the United States and simply read off scripts etc. There is no customer service about these interactions. In fact, they tried to send me to technical support 3 times, which makes no sense considering I purchased the radio over the phone and never received it. The people who answer these calls cannot comprehend that I do not have an account number since I never received my radio. It truly is unfortunate that XM and Sirius hold such a large market share. WORST COMPANY EVER!

charges
Company charged us 741.39 for a Lifetime membership they said we agreed to over the phone. Never signed a contract! ( And do not answer telemarketing calls.) We never paid bill and they turned off our xm when the service contract from new vehicle ended. When we got the bill I called to find out about the" Lifetime Membership'. FOUND OUT THEY WILL ONLY TRANSFER IT UP TO THREE TIMES! how many people only have 3 cars in their lifetime in this day and age??? Especially if you lease! Sounds like a class action lawsuit to me!
Now they have turned us over to collections...will fight this! BE CAREFUL!!!

Customer service, wrong billing
Numerous problems with incorrect billing; 30-45 minute waits for customer service, then customer service hanging up; problems with getting radio and Nav Traffic to work; rude and uninformed customer services representatives; harrassing phone calls on 'do not call' listed line asking for upgrades to service even after requesting not to be called by the company in writing; poor broadcast quality. Yes, I have tried to resolve this with the company with no result.

fraudulant charges
XM satellite Radio has requested I pay for service I did not sign up for. I paid for original services outside the free service offered with a new car (3months), up to a certain date (1yr paid in advance). After a phone call requesting why I have been reported to they're debt collection services, they say it is because of a "company policy" that states they extend service for two months after what was originally agreed upon and paid for. The collection company had sent they're letter out to me two days after XM sent they're letter and after my line of questions, the collection company says they do not report to the credit bureaus. (hmm this has me thinking, is it because as soon as they do that I can put a $1M bounty on the heads of XM radio?)
This is an extortion tactic that creates unknown debt, fees, negative credit reporting and stress. This is a tactic to bleed American people by little increments multiplied by theyr'e entire customer database. (this could be tens of thousands) I am not the only person with the problem, the internet bulletin boards are riddled with complaints such as mine. Please look into this issue as it seems to have surfaced itself as an epidemic as of late. I am prepared to prosecute and or join a class action lawsuit against said company and its malicious business practices. So far I can easily estimate my pain, suffering, credit issues, legal fees to amount to at least $2M and I am willing to go after it! 30% to my attorneys - they love it too!
XM you are really screwing with the wrong guy here, I am not part of the jobless data, in fact I am not part of any quantifiable data. With that said I roll over for no one trying to defraud me and my family!

Charges for serives never recieved
XM Radio Called me with an offer for 3 months after the compimentary period ran out on a new vehicle. I agreed to the 3 month trial period and paid the amount owed . At the end of the 3 month offer they automatically extended with no call or notice and sent me a bill. I refused to pay for service I did not want. The amount has been sent to a collection agency who refused to discuss, so I called XM. After spending an hour or so on the phone they refused to recall the charges. I didn't even know that the service was being provided that they were charging me for. This is only a portion of what I have been through. DON'T FALL FOR THE NICE PHONE CALL YOU RECVIEVE AFTER YOUR PROMOTION PERIOD ENDS ON A NEW VEHICLE, IT IS A TRAP.

Billing
If you can avoid XM Radio- do it. find something online, find something streaming, find something anywhere but these idiots. They promise a hassle free process that is the worst ever. They can't merge accounts if you change your vehicle, they can't pre-pay if you have a trial for your car and then want to use the credit you have from your old vehicle. They then turn you off without notice for payments that aren't even due. XM should quit investing in advertising and focus on their internal systems and training. Find some people in the USA to provide service support and get systems that work in your billing department. You would then retain enough people to be a successful company. As of now, I will make sure when my credit is up that no dollar ever goes to XM Again. By far the worst customer service and billing department in the history of US business. Avoid them... And Sirius is the same crummy company now, so that is not an option either...

fraud
My service was ending with XM radio service, I originally bought and paid for 3 years of service and was not going to keep the service any longer. I received a renewal form to extend the Xm service, so I wrote on the form and said cancel my account in bold lettering. I also called to cancel the service after receiving another notice. Two months later they are calling my cell phone to get me to extend my service. They flood my phone with calls asking me to extend my service. I finally listen to the whole message and call the number they had on a recording. Then after telling them I am not interested in there service they then tell me that I owe $7.00 for a month of service. I explain I have canceled the service and they say they have no record after telling them again and hanging up on them they continue to call and are now saying I owe $14.00. Now the service is no longer on the car radio and still charging me for the service.
I suggest very strongly that anyone interested in service with XM or Sirus to run. Hang up on them and don’t give them any information you will be sorry!
