UPS Reviews

Phantom Delivery
I would like to report a systemic problem of package delivery issues with the UPS Smyrna GA local office.
One three consecutive occasions I have had problems with UPS delivery. Packages being reported as delivered when they havent - packages being delivered on sundays via personal vehicles etc.
I have raised the issue multiple times with the UPS office but for some reason it gets swept under the carpet. I believe the problem is a lot higher up than I have been able to report. The issues tend to be forgotten or covered up. This is systemic and corrupt.

Delays, Billing
UPS at a glance.

After having about 2 - 3 parcels a month delivered to us we have the following everyone should know about UPS.

1) expect delays. the drivers don't bother leaving behind any notifications of "attempts of delivery". they refuse to come up to even give the parcels. expect your parcel to be delayed or returned, at your expense.

2) brokerage fees, extremely high. no more needs to be said. look at the other complaints and get a feel of the high dose they charge, be prepared to pay. (RMS is who they send after you if you don't, apparently we didn't pay a bill they sent; we're positive this bill was never received; most likely because they were too lazy to send it).

3) the customer service, try to schedule a pick up? nothing close by, since packages go to the main shipping centre for pick up, and not your local UPS (why bother opening stores everywhere?). want to wait for a package? sure, 9am - 9pm. they fail to realize people have a life to attend to, university, chores, and a job. oh and by the way, on many desparate days I had family wait at my place for the package to be recieved as they said it would be delivered the following day; that day, waited all day, UPS didnt arrive.

More references by other distressed UPS customers are found on Ebay Forums. How the company is functioning is beyond me.

Mentally challenged drivers
The UPS drivers in DE are still trying to get their GED. They cannot read or follow instructions

My important delivery
I ordered DSL from AT&T. It was said to be delivered on November 4th, 2008. However, every single time I get something that has to be delivered by UPS, I guess I am the last house on the last street to be delivered for the day. I've had them deliver things as late as 8:30 pm, scaring me when they pound on the door. However, this time there was no bell, no knock, no nothing. The real topper is that I had a couple of boxes and a black trash bag on the porch with yard sale items inside. I came home today to find a vagrant filing through the boxes to take what he pleased. Never, never did it occur to me to look inside the largest ravaged box, where, lo and behold, there was my package from UPS...and just what if I had designated those boxes to charity, as I'd done two weeks before. No telling where my DSL modem and such would be. I am livid. This is not good customer service. This is a case of hit and run. If it hits a good place, that's cool. If it doesn't, oh well and then the driver runs back to the truck and pushes on. No more signing to make sure y0u get your stuff. No anything but bad service. I'm tired of it. They need to get their act together. Thousands of people depend upon them to get their packages in a half-way decent manner. What's next? Standing in the doorway of the truck, whistling for the customer to come out and they pitch it out to you? I wouldn't doubt it.

Delivery sucks
An item was shipped to me via UPS. I received a note on my door the first day they attempted to deliver it(I was at work and came home at 4:45pm). The note said that they would deliver it the next day between 2 and 5 pm. I took off from work and went home so that I could get the package. As soon as I got home I called the company who said they would alert the delivery team. I then wrote a note in red permanent marker addressed to UPS saying please ring doorbell or knock when you come. At 7 pm a visitor rang my doorbell and to my great surprise there was a note from UPS saying that they tried to deliver the package again but were unsuccessful! I was here the entire time and no one had rung the doorbell or knocked on the door. I called the UPS office and asked them why the delivery person had not rang the doorbell or knocked on the door. Their only response was in the form of a question "Was a signature required for delivery?" I said yes. The UPS person then said that she does not know why they did not ring the bell or knock on the door. She said that she would contact them again and ask that they deliver the package that evening. At 8:30pm the package was still not delivered. I called the UPS office again and asked to speak to a supervisor. She said that she will contact the delivery person but could not promise delivery that evening. I said that I would be at home the next day from 5 pm. She said that she will have them deliver it AFTER 5 PM and that she will call and leave a message at 10am that day. I came home at 4 :45 PM on the agreed upon day to find another note from UPS on my door saying that they tried to deliver the package and that was the final attempt. There was no telephone message as was promised either. I called the UPS 800 number again and related the events to the customer service rep. He hung up the phone before I was done. I called back and asked to speak to a supervisor who did NOT listen to the events beyond the second delivery attempt but said that he would investigate and get back to me within an hour. He could not tell me when or if I will get my package that day. I offerred to pick up the package at one of the offices in my town but he could not tell me if that was possible either! This is the most awful and utterly POOR QUALITY customer NON-service that I have ever experienced and what is more no one at this company even acts like this is a service that they receied payment to provide nor shows any concern for the customer or the degree of inconvenience caused by their failure to provide the service for which they were paid!!

Drivers
I have visited my mother in Jasper, Indiana on several occasions. Each time I am in Jasper the same UPS man delivers packages in her neighborhood. He pulls up with the music blaring so loud you can hear it from the street with a cigarette protruding from his mouth and he is always on his cell phone talking so loud that you can hear him over the blaring music. All the neighbors complain that he runs through stop signs without a second glance. Jasper is a small place so we see the same man often around the local square and other businesses as we go through town. I cannot seem to locate a website to complain about this man but I did get his name when he came to the door of my mothers home - Kevin. The smell of cigarettes hit me as soon as I opened the door. I used to think that a man in uniform of any kind stood for something. The neighbor said that he spoke to one of his buddies and this man had even been arrested for drinking a while back. If these people are going to operate vehicles then we feel that they should not have any type of alcohol related charges against them, not smoke or speak on cell phones while operating a vehicle and adhere to all traffic signs and signals. How can you possibly know what is going on around you when you are on the phone and doing several things at once. This should be against the law. He will hurt someone someday!

No customer service
I’ve had problems receiving packages shipped via UPS in the past. I come home to find a yellow tag on my apartment door because I wasn’t waiting there to sign for the package whenever a driver showed up. I’ve left notes for the drivers, tried talking to the drivers and I’ve called the 800 number on the tag and spoken to customer service representatives many times. I have tried to explain that I can’t be at home to sign for packages and that I want them left at my door. I live in a safe secure building with interior doors. Leaving packages shouldn’t be a problem and it isn’t for other carriers. With only one exception the drivers and Customer Service reps have shown no consideration, concern or understanding whatsoever and have acted like complete jerks as well. I’ve simply been told that the driver can’t leave packages without a signature. Occasionally they have tried to lie to me, saying that the person sending the package had specified that a signature was required. It’s actually a UPS policy that they spout like mindless automatons and have been completely inflexible about when I have tried to reason with them. UPS representatives have told me that if I can’t be there to sign for the package I should make other arrangements. In effect, refusing to acknowledge their unwillingness to deliver the package or the inconvenience to me - implying that the problem was somehow my fault not theirs.

On Friday December 22nd a UPS driver brought the Christmas package that I was expecting from my family to my door but didn’t leave it. Instead, he left a yellow tag marked signature required for delivery and that UPS would attempt to redeliver the package on Tuesday the 26th - the day after Christmas.

I called the 800 number on the tag and spoke to a customer service representative, pointing out the irony and stupidity of the situation. The person I spoke to suggested that I should have had the package delivered to where I work. When I told her I was not allowed to receive personal packages where I work she had no response and once again spouted UPS policy. She then told me that I could drive to the UPS centre at 8350 Murray Drive in Middleton on Saturday the 23rd and pick up the package myself - it would be waiting there for me.

Saturday morning I tried to find the address but couldn’t. I tried to call the 800 number again but couldn’t get through to a person. I tried looking in the phone book but could only find their 800 number - there were no addresses or other telephone numbers listed. It was only after stopping at a gas station and asking if anyone knew where the UPS centre was, that I was finally able to find it.

I assumed that I would walk in, give someone my yellow tag, pick up my package, celebrate Christmas and go on about my life. I ended up waiting for more than an hour in their cold customer waiting area with as many as a dozen people in the same or similar situation while the UPS employees tried to find my package. The main person I dealt with was sarcastic and smug; he seemed to be holding back laughter as I got more and more irritated and angry. He suggested several scenarios that could have happened and places where my package might be. One of those scenarios was that the package might have been put on a truck and taken back out in spite of the fact that I was told that I would be able to pick it up. In the end when I asked him where my package was, he said “I don’t know” and when I asked what I was supposed to do, he said “I don’t know.”

This wasn’t an issue of the address on the package being bad or wrong, this wasn’t an issue of the package not being shipped in time. The package was actually brought to my door and then taken away because some heartless asshole in a brown shirt cared more about following company policy than delivering a package that might be very important to someone. My Christmas gifts sit in a box somewhere at UPS because they wouldn’t deliver them in the first place and now have lost them.

As I was leaving, I told the UPS representative that I didn’t mean to take this out on him but that he should let his superiors, or anyone who cared, know that I would never do business with UPS again or any company that uses UPS. I also told him that I intended to contact the Better Business Bureau, that I intended to send this message to everyone in my address book, that I was going to find any opinions or ratings service on the internet and give UPS the lowest possible rating. I immediately regretted trying to be nice, compassionate or considerate to him at all though, because he just continued to smirk, act as if it was all some kind of joke and not even respond.

At this point there is no satisfactory resolution possible. The package from my family will not be found or delivered until well after Christmas if at all.

I know that Christmas is not supposed to be about gifts but I wish all of these fine employees of UPS could know how it feels to wake up Christmas morning alone without a single gift from their family in expression of their love or wishes for happiness.

If you have received packages from UPS without any problems, consider yourself lucky. I will never ship anything with UPS again, I won’t order anything online or through the mail if the company uses UPS, I ask that anyone who ships anything to me in the future does not use UPS.

I am sending this to everyone in my address book and anyone else I might think of later. I strongly urge all of you to reconsider shipping anything with UPS - there are a lot of other options, even the U.S. Postal Service would be a better choice.

Terrible employee
A UPS driver double parked trapping me and my daughter in our car. He couldn't miss the fact that we were the only parked car along that street with the engine running and people in it. I honked my horn and he merely ignored us. He slowly unpacked the truck and made his delivery. He never apologized or acknowledged our presence. In effect, we were held captive my UPS! We will never use them again.

Terrible service
I paid for overnight shipping of a law book I needed for the following week. When the book didn't arrive, I called the company. The book had been returned to the company because supposedly no one was home to receive the book. To the best of my memory, not only was I at home, but so was my husband. The driver did not leave a note that he had attempted delivery nor did he leave the package with a neighbor, as is customary.

BUT, the best part is, when I tried to file a complaint with UPS, "Juan", informed me that there was no way to file a complaint because the driver did not leave a package. When I was requested a supervisor, I was put on hold, and loand behold! the line went dead.

I would be an idiot to use UPS again for anything.

Unauthorized billing
I wanted to fax some papers and May took them. Didn't answer my question about the price. Just faxed them and told me I owed them 14.50. Plus, when I questioned the price. She told me she'd be happy when I left the store. If you want to be mistreated, yelled at or over charged just go to 5546 Camino Al Norte North Las Vegas NV. store # 2504 and have May or the owner help you. And your sure to get mistreated. Also if you just want to mail a letter. Don't go there they, curse at you for using there mailbox.
