Delivery
Have a package late for delivery - showed as "out for delivery" on Thursday, on Friday shows as in a different state. I called their customer service and was told the on-line tracking is just a virtual tracking system and does not reflect the real status. My wifes 30'th anniversary gift is now 3 days late. I even offered to drive 200 miles to the center where UPS claims it is just to be told no one is working at that major hub on the weekend before Christmas. This is after being told that if it made it to that center by today, they promised me the gift would arrive at my house today.

Unbelievable Incompetence
UPS ruined the Christmas for my family with ineptitude and compounded it with lies. I sent by UPS the Christmas gifts for my brother and his family on the 1st of December. On the 8th I was contacted by UPS that they need a different address because it was a rural PO box. This made no sense at all since they have been delivering to the same address for 8 years previous AND everyone knows that the procedure for this is to leave a notice in the PO box for the receiver to pickup. But since they called I gave them the residential address, but they messed up when they took down the new address because they changed the numeric portion but NOT the name of the street. I had a premonition about all this and called the 1-800 number to get tracking info on 9th and found this out, so I corrected them (or so I naively thought). On the 11th, my brother call to tell me he received a notice about a package but the UPS center at his end could not or would tell him what happened to the pack. So on the same day, I call UPS again and found out that they tried to deliver to the wrong address because NO ONE made any correction to the records dispite my previous calls. The operator told me they would attempt another delivery on the 15th or the 16th. But since my brother told me he did not received it I called that day (17th) and was told it was being "delivered as we speak". Friday, 19th December 2008, 14 business days later, I called UPS and was informed that the package was missing. The further demonstrated just how bad UPS is, I had sent on 16th Dec a package by USPS (that's United States Postal Service) to the same address, and it arrived on the 18th. It took USPS 2 days to deliver what UPS could not in 14 business days.

Poor Service
Went to UPS store to mail a package. The clerk gave me a shipping form to fill out and walked away. After waiting several minutes for her to return I asked another worker what had happened to her, why she hadn't returned. I was told that she was "busy" in the back. More minutes of waiting. Finally the worker went into the back to get the first clerk but instead of bringing her back she began a conversation with her and neither returned to wait on me. I finally left the store without sending my package.
Got better results when I went to FedEx.

STOLEN AND UNDELIVERED ITEMS
I LIVE IN A VERY LARGE GATED UPSCALE APT COMMUNITY WITH AN EASILY ACCESSIBLE MANAGEMENT OFFICE. I RECEIVED A POST CARD FROM UPS THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DELIVER MY PACKAGE (FROM THE SAME COMPANY THEY HAVE DELIVERED FROM NUMEROUS TIMES) BECAUSE THE APT # WAS LEFT OFF. UPS DID NOT BOTHER TO LEAVE IT AT THE MANAGEMENT OFFICE. INSTEAD, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT RE-DELIVER WHEN I CALLED THEM AND THEN STATED I WOULD NEED TO DRIVE 10 MILES TO RETRIEVE THE PACKAGE WHEN THE NEAREST UPS OFFICE IS LESS THAN A MILE AWAY. THEY OFFERED NO SOLUTION WHATSOEVER TO RE-ROUTE THE PACKAGE BACK TO THE APPROPRIATE APARTMENT.
SECONDLY, WITHIN THE PAST 3 WEEKS, ANOTHER UPS DRIVER SUPPOSEDLY LEFT A PACKAGE AT MY DOOR (UNSIGNED FOR, OF COURSE) AND I NEVER SAW THE PACKAGE. I HAVE HAD THE POST OFFICE AND FEDEX LEAVE PACKAGES WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAVE A PRIVATE ENTRANCE TO MY APARTMENT THAT IS COVERED AND NOT EASILY SEEN BY PASSERS-BY SO I DOUBT SERIOUSLY THAT IT WAS STOLEN. I HIGHLY SUSPECT (BUT CANNOT PROVE) THAT THE DRIVER WAS LOOKING FOR FREE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. WELL, HE GOT THE PACKAGE INTENDED FOR MY 84 YO FATHER WITH MILTON BERLE AND ROY ROGER MOVIES SO .. HA! HA! HA!
NO MORE UPS FOR ME ... I WILL TELL ALL OF THE PEOPLE I SHOP ON LINE WITH THAT I WILL PAY THE EXTRA COST USING THE POST OFFICE OR FEDEX OR DHL BUT NEVER UPS AGAIN!

Delivery problems
The UPS person for my route in Hoboken, NJ does not actually deliver my packages. He simply pastes the "delivery attempt" note on the door and moves on. I have complained to UPS about this twice already and posted large notes on my apartment's front door indicating that I am home and awaiting delivery... neither has helped.
In the most recent instance, UPS told me the guy would attempt to redeliver the package on the same day. They gave me a timeframe for redelivery at "around 5PM, " and after calling them at 6, 7, 8, and 9PM, they still assured me he was coming, possibly as late as 11PM because it was their "busy season." He never showed up.
Now UPS is telling me I asked them to hold the package at their delivery center in Secaucus, NJ, which is difficult to believe considering I live in the walking community of Hoboken, NJ and have no car.
Through this process, UPS has also promised to call me back twice and not honored the promise. I have had to explain the situation each time I call, as they do not keep notes on open complaint cases. After hours on the phone, the best they can do is tell me that at some point the driver will re-attempt delivery.

Bad service
UPS delivery service has continued to get worse over the last several years. I speak here of not just MY service, but UPS's general corporate approach to service. Their philosophy is that the shipper pays the bill, so recipients can take a hike. The standard practice by drivers in my area is to toss the package near the door and leave without even bothering to knock.
My most recent example. Shipper sends something requiring my signature. The driver comes but I am not home. No brown/yellow notice was left on my door. Only by checking online can I see an attempt was made. I will be out of town so I wish to change the package to "will call." The website FAQ says you can do make arrangements for other delivery options online, but in fact you cannot. Actually, the website has been redesigned so that customers have no input/contact at all. There are phone numbers posted for shippers to use, potential employees to use ... but NO NUMBER where someone can call about a package delivery issue. Historically, when a company does that, it is a sure sign that the company's product/service has gone straight into the toilet.
Now I am going to drive to The UPS Store to see if I can get it fixed there. They will charge me a fee for picking up there, I feel sure.
I will NEVER specify UPS delivery when buying online again. Even the post office seems to do better anymore.
This poor excuse for actually providing the service the shipper paid for is not entirely surprising to me. When UPS moved to Atlanta, that to me meant it was going to be managed by a bunch of incompetent good ol' boys, basically dumba**es who only know that they should be forever cutting cost by c**pping on customers and employees and they will keep doing that until they wreck the company. A bunch of morons. Pay attention and you will see that many major corporations based in the Deep South do exactly that.
It's clear that UPS is going to end up the lowest cost, cr*piest service provider in the industry. I recommend that people avoid using UPS shipping whenever possible. It will only get worse. I will now even opt for USPS before UPS.

Low quality employee and control system
I totally Agree UPS is so far the worst shipping company in the US. i have numerous of problem with UPS that i just hope the online retailers won't use UPS as their carrier. But, sometime they just do, and its a pain. UPS is rotten from the top to the bottom. I had so many problem receiving packages from UPS, partially because we do not have a door bell system in our apartment, and the delivery people just refuse to give me a phone call so that i can come down stair and sign it. they would rather waste all of our time going back and forth. But this is not the worst, after 5 days of useless back and forth conversation and redelivery request, i asked the customer service, when exactly do they deliver the package in my area, i will just wait outside for them, the customer service A says from 4pm to 5 pm. so i went outside and wait in the cold for one hour, no success, call customer service B, now this guy says 5pm -7pm, i was very pissed, but still i thought if i gave up right now, the past hour that i waited would be totally wasted. so i waited outside for another 2 hour. the UPS person never came, how ridiculous! they were supposed to deliver that day, but they didn't. Next day, same situation repeat. Out of furious, i decided i would talk to their supervisor, i got Mr. Farid from California i believe from the main office to talk to me, he was very apologetic and assure me that he will personally take care of my case and make sure the delivery person leave my package the next day. Still, nothing came next day, i called again, he told me sorry he doesn't know why they didn't deliver, and tell me i had to go to like there temporary storage center to pick it up, i was so upset, didn't i pay for the shipping fee? why do i now still need to go like a thousand mile to pick my stuff up? who will compensate the time i spend on waiting and explaining the situation patiently over and over again with the Customer Rep? NO BODY. IS THIS HOW THEY RUN The BUSINESS? i really don't understand. And finally i decided alright i'm going to have my friend drive me there to pick up my long waiting package, we found out that the package weren't there as they said, it was on the truck, and we had to wait for like 3 hours for it to come back. we don't have time to wait, so we decided that we want the rep in the center to give us his name so we can assure we get the package next time. Interestingly, he doesn't have the name tag, refuse to give us his name, and he wasn't even looking at us while he speak, like we are people who don't exist. i ask him to bring his supervisor, ha, he said the supervisor is not here. how amazing? so we called the main office and decide to report this situation, the supervisor just suddenly popped up from no where. of course she cannot do nothing either, useless, but at least she got a name this time. I really hope people who suffer from their terrible service would all speak up, and let this company knows who is the boss.

Terrible customer service
Do not use UPS, we sent four packages from Dar es Salaam office to Italy totalling 70kgs, our items INCLUDE wedding gifts that we could not carry on the plane as we had a destination wedding.
They promised delivery within four days of the items being sent on 21nov 2008. We paid usd800 and until now no one can reasonbaly explain why the items have not been deleivered.
After calling the Milan and Bergamo office where apparently the parcles are, (initially they were in Nairobi then Dubai, Germany no one at their respective offices knows why...),
we have found out after numerous phone calls and emails later that the items are in Italy but we have to wait another weeek for delivery, pay 50euros for customs fees which customs have confirmed this charge is not normally being applied, no one can give an explanation why the items were delayed, neither confirm that indeed they will be delivered on December 4th but should they not be delivered on december 4th, they intend charging us 11euros a day.
Even worse, the staff at UPS office in Bergamo confirmed that the so called tracking number which is to help the customer track whereabouts of parcels at all times through their website does not really work and it is a marketing tool to give the customer some confidence when wanting to use their services. Honestly!
I am so disappointed by their service, appalled by their lack of consideration to innocent customers who trust the UPS brand name and my advice to anyone reading this, use UPS at your peril and considerable frustration, end of the day their service is costly for rapid delivery, you are better of paying extra luggage allowance at the airport.

Horrible Driver
same driver has caused heck on our business as we have been at the same place for four years and the same driver can not find our address, he claims to need an apartment nimber yet we own our HOME and only have garages and not apartments...try and tell that to a stupidvisor at the local office and they turn a deaf ear to the enitre situation. we are filing a formal complaint with the BBB and will actively pursue ups management in corporate office. stay away from ups and use usps, besides it is cheaper anyway..
