TracFone Wireless Reviews

Tracfone not adding minutes after online purchase
Tracfone is by far the cheapest wireless phone service you can purchase. But, the adage you get what you pay for certainly applies here. Customer service is non existent, if you have to contact them plan on spending hours, and I do mean hours, on the phone going over and over the same story and the same trouble shooting until you call is accidentally dropped, then you can start over again with the next phone call. Getting your minutes wither on line or with Card codes is hit or miss. If you get missed, again plan on spending hours on the phone with customer service and then like as not you will be told the YOU are mistaken, the minutes were added. If I had it to do over again I would not have spent the money to purchase any tracfone products. My recommendation to you is avoid this company at all costs.

Tracfone not adding minutes after online purchase
I've been using Tracfone since July '08 with the Motorola C139. To be fair up until now the service has been fairly decent with no big issues. That is until spending over two hours on the phone with customer service today (29-Apr-09)trying to finally get my minutes I purchased online to post on the phone. About a week ago, online I purchased the 450 minute/90day extension for $79.99 + 90 minutes extra minutes for $15 more ($5 for 30 minutes and $10 for 60). That and with the double minutes for life I originally installed on the phone SHOULD have given me 1080 total minutes (450 + 90 = 540 X 2= 1080) additional minutes. Well the minutes never posted but according to their customer service reps and hours of troubleshooting, since my expiration date has been extended 90days the minutes MUST have been added. We then went back and forth trying to see if I in fact have used the 1000 minutes since I originally added them a week ago. I barely use more than 100 minutes a month. And now the only way I can actually get the detailed call logs for the two week time frame for this is to mail or fax an official one time only exception they've allow (just for me magically) that's (subpoena official or whatever) to their records custodian and I should get this within 30days. I'm continuing to fight this in any and every way I can since who would pay nearly $100 for no service actually being added. It's like being robbed and then being accused of being the robber. But if those call logs clearly show that I didn't even make 10 minutes worth of calls during that period then I'm definitely going after Tracfone. Hard. Consumer complaints would be the minimum. If anyone else is having these same problems call and demand your call logs to verify where your actual minutes have gone and if they were in fact even added or used. It should take within 30 days for them to mail it or you could use fax. They don't know what the internet is. I'm already looking into other carriers like T-mobile and Verizon and to remember that you do in fact get what you pay for.

Fraud alert
On November 17th, 2009 I attempted to redeem a 200 minute airtime pin number directy onto my phone. Somehow those minutes were redeemed on a different serial number.

The company declares that it does not redeem minutes to another IMEI than the one requested.(Obviously it did!) They will not transfer/replace/reissue my minutes and their terms and conditions preclude a refund as this was a "successful" redemption.

As I did not receive the minutes that I purchased, this can hardly be considered "successful" at my end and I cannot afford to absorb this loss of $40 plus tax.

This company refuses to be held accountable.

Fraudulent company
On or about the end of October, 2007, Tracfone decided that they were doing away with their TDMA (Analog) phone service to their customers and contacted me to force me to change over to digital service (which I had already determined would not work as well in my area). They offered to send me a 'replacement' phone for free and agreed to transfer my Tracfone number (which I have used for my business for over 5 years) to the new phone.

I received my new (cheap toy) phone and activated it and Tracfone supposedly transferred the phone number to it. I used this phone (even though it did not work as well as my old TDMA Nokia) until about May, 2008, when I noticed that I had not been getting any calls on my phone for some time. At first, I just dismissed the lack of calls due to the down economy or my business contacts were just busy.

Then, I tried calling my Tracfone from a landline, and, low and behold, I got someone else's phone on my phone number. I immediately called Tracfone's customer service number and waited an excruciatingly long time to get someone on the phone that I could hardly understand and explained the problem. They said that the number was no longer my number and that it was not available to transfer to my phone as it was now someone elses phone number.

I asked how my phone number could be changed without my consent or without even notifying me. The Customer No Service Representative from Tracfone stated that they could not further assist me and I did not know what to do at that point. I tried calling back several times and got no assistance from Tracfone each time I waited the long wait for customer service. I tried emailing them, as there seems to be a significant language barrier at customer service.

When my airtime card became due in September, 2008, I still renewed it, as I now had a boatload of unused minutes left on the phone and did not want to loose them. I again tried contacting Tracfone with no positive action on the part of Tracfone to rectify the situation. Tracfone is the one who changed my phone number, not me. Only Tracfone can correct the situation.

It also must be fairly annoying for the poor soul that has my phone number to be contacted by all of my business and personal contacts daily trying to reach me. I can just imagine the frustration of that poor individual. Again, Tracfone has created another problem.

Finally, in December, 2008 I emailed Tracfone and sent them a letter detailing my Tracfone experience in a last, final attempt to get them to respond with some customer service, prior to me taking much more harsh actions against the company. They responded two weeks later by calling me (not on my Tracfone, of course) and telling me that there was nothing that they could do.

When I asked to speak with a supervisor, he told me basically the same thing in many circles of illogical rhetoric. When I asked to speak with his supervisor, the general manager of Tracfone, or the President of the Company, he said that that was not possible. I will now have to push this issue to a new venue. I have heard that the Public Service Commission of the State of Florida regulates phone companies in the state, and, thus will file a formal complaint with them.

I also may be seeking assistance from the FCC, as they govern wireless carriers due to the radio frequencies employed. This is sure starting to stink like a telephone fraud scheme perpetrated by Tracfone. First, they force me to change my phone to one that does not work as well, then, they agree to transfer my phone number to that phone. Then they change my phone number without my consent or knowledge, and. lastly they refuse to correct their mistake or worse yet, just plain don't care about this customer!

It has been rumored that the State Attorney's office investigates such apparent cases of fraud by businesses against consumers. I may look into opening a case file with them, as well. The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services may be of assistance, as well. We will see.

Beware of anything that Tracfone tells you, either in writing, or, on the phone. Choose any other company that has a good reputation for customer service. Tracfone has demonstrated to me that they are either unwilling or unable to rectify the situation that they have created, and, I must now seek legal recourse to this dilemma.

They still refuse to correct their error. They still refuse to give my phone number back. They still refuse to acknowledge that it was their error that caused this mess. They have the worst Customer Service in the business.

STAY AWAY FROM TRACFONE!

Kyocera-new phone! Better? Right.
I admit that I live in an area that mobile phone has "Selected Areas" of service but my phone quit working and I called "The Desert" to get my limited service working again. After extended wait time, the ASSociate that received my call informed me that my phone would not work any longer for me and I was to return my phone to them to receive my new phone that "would satisfy me very much". They indicated to me that I should be happy that they were there to replace my NO PROBLEMS Noika phone that now is programed so that even in MY SERVICE AREA I am not advantaged my LIFE TIME MINUTE DOUBLER Card purchase when I was Noika that would not be rolled to the replacement TRASH Fone as I am now always "roaming" in a much smaller service area. I buy 400 minute add-ons that I "GET TO USE" in 200 minutes or less because any calls even a 15 second call has a one minute minimum whenever I make a connection to the SERVICE that they allow me. Plus the roaming fee. A 62 second call is costing me four minutes of my now 100 minute card that was a 400 minute card that should have been with my LIFETIME DOUBLER CARD 800 minutes plus...least I forget...the 20 bonus minutes!!
Features like the Time of day, the alarm clock, the schedule, and the world clock do not work...because..."Service is required to use this feature"...there to on the "easier to read screen" to remind me that I have a new TRASH fone that "would satisfy me very much"! Two and a half hours of spelling my information and holding for 2 minutes and 30 seconds while they confer with a supervisor or programmer to seek resolution to this matter...did I mention that the new fone did not come with an adapter for the car...
Thank You Tracfone Wireless Service for that you provide to the public that put a roof over your heads and help you with your vacation budgets and lawn care services that left some grass clippings on the drive out front of your 5000 sq.ft. track home in your locked gate community. I take liberty to describe your world and better than me attitude because you take liberty to tell me that I "would be satisfy very much" with my replacement fone.
Seems funny too that an Idaho based fone WORKS in my Service area. Yes it roams all the time but it does work where local fones do not! Funny shit huh. Watch your wallet Mr Consumer.

Terrible customer service!
I recently encountered a horrible customer service experience with Tracfone's customer service. At the time I thought I was completely in the right and argued quite a bit with the customer service rep, even her supervisor too. I was trying to use a promo code when I added my double minute airtime card and did not receive my 200 minutes. The rep kept telling me that I didn't qualify for the promo. After several minutes of some back and forth, I hung up and decided and search the web for help. I came across the following phone number 1-800-876-5753 that went to Tracfones corporate office, to their Executive Resolution team. I fully expected to have another round of being told I didn't qualify for the promo minutes. I was pleasantly surprised to get a rep that was professional and knowledgeable. She explained that I had purchased the wrong double minute card for the promo I was trying to use. If only the original rep told me. My recommendation to anyone else having a hard time with Tracfone customer service is to use this number 1-800-876-5753!

Did not return $20 phone card charge when faulty phone returned!
Bought c139 tracfone on2/11 from radioshack, hyannis, mass for $14.99, plus #1021355 Trac $19.99/60 min pre-paid minutes. Returned phone to Radio shack on 2/16 as defective, and received a credit for$14.99. Neither Radio Shack nor Tracfone would give me credit for @19.99 air time, even though phone was never operated, nor any minutes were spent. It was their "policy" not to refund pre-paid minutes. This seems to be a scam!

Cheated and lied to me
TRACFONE Wireless, Inc. a subsidiary of America Movil. U.S. Patent No. 5,631,947 I have looked in my mannual, and on their official home page web site but find no address, who to contact other than the customer service number, 1-800-867-7183 They have purposely left off all information about themselves, officers of company or whatever. This should not be allowed.

I don't normally do this but this I feel so strongly about that I am sending some information to you.

My son gave me alittle phone called a TRAC phone, for Mother's day. It was one of those phones that you buy, and can use a pre-paid card on, and it would be good anywhere in the United States. The phone he gave me was faulty, and kept going out over and over losing the air time I had placed on it. The last time it went out, nothing could be brought up on it at all.

I called the company on three different occasions, each time it happened. Finally, the tech told me it was not normal this was happening over and over and the phone must be faulty. She told me to send the phone back and they would replace it. They did that. But...before they did, I asked several times if my minutes I had on the phone would be transferred to the new phone. I documented what she said and she said they would be. I had over three hundred units on it, and air time until Nov. Again, I asked her if all the minutes would be transferred over, she said they would.

She told me that when my old phone was sent back they would check the units remaining and add them to the new phone, within the month. Well, I called back and got another tech and he said, they have not been added yet, it would take a month. So I called back today, now they tell me they have no record of the 300 plus minutes, they show NO record of it, and cannot give them to me. I went from the tech to the supervisor and was on the phone for a long time. The minutes I paid for are gone, they will not compensate me, not even for good will. They got the money, and I have ended up wasting money and lost the time on the phone.

They claim I only had 120 units on it. I use the phone very seldom, only when I trave for emergency reasons, or directions locally. I had recently purchased a card for 250 units, and had time still left over, making the time come to over 300 units. They claimed security had to check the phone and retrieve the units on it. That they could not. I questioned that at the time, because when the phone keep going out, the techs were able to pull up the units and add them back on the phone until the next time.

This time the phone blanked out completely. She said when the replacement came back to send in the other phone and their security department would have to check it out, as she could not. It would take approx. 30 day. I sent the phone back, and waited. I never got my FULL time rolled over to the new phone. I called and was told they would take awhile longer. I called again and had a case number I kept referring to, and this time, I was told they cannot show I can over 300 units, but only 120 units. This is wrong. I feel I have been lied to, put off, and cheated. THEY GOT THE MONEY WHEN I BOUGHT THE CARD, and had time left over, and I am getting nothing for buying the card.

They suggested I buy another card and air time. What do I need to do to file an official complaint? This is the first time I have ever done this, but feel like they have cheated and lied to me.
