Cheated Out of Rewards Money
February 18, 2011
RewardsRUs
I spent over $500 during the promotional period of Thanksgiving-Christmas in order to receive my 10% rewards + Free Leapster game. When I didn't receive anything in the mail or via email, I called ToysRUs. I was told my rewards had already expired and there was nothing I could do/get. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the customer service representative hung up on me. I called back, spoke to another representative, who told me the same thing but made a note that I wanted to speak to management. I was then told that someone would call me in 3-5 business days. Guess what, they never called. I simultaneously sent an email which was never responded to.
I called back today and was told that I'd now have to wait 10 business days to hear from a supervisor.
Here's my advice - don't shop at ToysRUs if you actually think you're going to receive and use your rewards money. It's a total scam and you can get the same toys for close to the same price at Target, Walmart, KMart or your local toy store - none of which will scam you out of your rewards money.

Rip off
My 11 year old son purchased a video game from toys r us during a promotion. He received a $20 gift card due to the promotion, the store clerk told him that this card would not be activated for six hours. Hence he was not able to use this on an additional purchase during this outing.
Saturday I took him back to the store and he tried to make a purchase using this $20 gift card, during this time he was told that this gift card expired on 1/31/11 and he therefore was out of luck! I spoke to the manager and he simply told me that he felt bad but there was nothing that he could do for my son. The card expired and the store took back the $20!
Talk about a bogus scam!! We left the store and both vowed to NEVER purchase anything again at TOYS R US!!! That store preys upon unsuspecting youth and I will not patronize any corporation that steals from it's customers. Let's face it, many stores carry the same items as TOYS R Us and they do so at lower prices!
Boycott TOYS R US ...my family and friends will not support this store anymore!

Does Not Care About Customer Concerns
I originally began attempting to contact someone at Toys R Us in regard to a small issue that I have with their return policy. In that attempt I have been shown what little respect or concern Toys R Us has for its customers.
At every level, from the employees at the store I was in to the Executive Vic President and Chief Administrative Officer Deborah Derby, I have been treated as if I am just wasting everyone's time and that they wish I would just go away and leave things be. “Documenting my concerns” seems to be the only thing that anyone is willing to do. No one, at any level, is willing to listen to my concerns with their policy or why I have an issue with them.
I went through the channels set up by Toys R Us for customers to send their complaints and when that was not satisfactory, I pursued other avenues to get into contact with someone at the company that could address my concerns.
At this point, I have given up on anyone with Toys R Us caring or doing anything about my original issue, but I am not going to give up on the issue I have with how Toys R Us treats its customers.

Unfair return policy
Don't ever ever buy electronic item from Toys R Us unless you are 100 % sure you want to keep it. When I was ready to purchase the Ipod Touch 4th generation last month, I asked the worker at the cashier what was the return policy for the Ipod. He said " Just return it within 45 days." I was happy with the policy, so I purchased the Ipod. Today I took it back to Toys R Us and tried to return it with the receipt and everything in the box, but the manager refused to return it. She said that the item had to be returned in an unopen box, and she pointed at the back of the receipt in fine print. That was the first time I read about the policy. I told her I would never have bought the item had the worker told me that the item had to be returned in an UNOPENED BOX within 45 days when first inquiring about the return policy. He never mentioned about the item has to be unopened in order to return! This is deceiving! I trusted what the worker said about the return policy. He omitted the most important information about the elctronic return policy. He tricked me, and I was deceived! What kind of return policy is this that you can never open the product to see how it works before you can decide if you want to return it!? what an unethical company! They tricked and deceived customers. I would have bought my Ipod from Wal-Mart or Target where they do not have this kind of rediculous policy. I bought two Ipod from Toys R US, and I realized that one is sufficient for my family. But now I am stuck with both of them. I learned a big and expensive lesson from this : I would NEVER NEVER EVER bought another electronic from Toys R Us, and I hope you do too.

Bait and Switch
ToysRUs advertised XBox 360 Kinnect Controller as an early bird special. When I tried to purchase the Kinnect Module and Game Special for a 50.00 Dollar card as incentive. They had the more expensive edition for 399.00, but not the advertised 199.00 module. The clerk informed me they were sold out the units on the launch days several days prior and would not issue rain checks for early bird specials. I have spent the last month attempting to purchase the module from them and they say they never received any shipment beyond the lauch date and now don't expect them until after Christmas. How can a store advertise merchandise as a special when they had none available to sell? I called the 800 number and got a lady who told me she could help me and promptly hung up on me. I called back and this lady told me all ToysRUs sales depend on availability and there is nothing she could do but appoligize. When I asked if this is Bait and Switch she said she could conntact Corporate, but that takes at least 10 days. All I wanted was for the store to honor their ad. It a shame it todays economy a store chooses to mislead customers with a smile on their face. If I would of known that I have to spend 399.00 to get the higher priced model, I wouldn't have spent over 200.00 dollars in their store on the November 6 shopping trip on other gifts.

rewards/returns policies a joke
ToysRus has a completely unethical return policy and a decidedly laughable "rewards" program (among other sins). If you use ANY type of "earned" reward certificate or "birthday gift card" on a purchase, part of the sales price of each item you bought is retained by the store if you take ANY item back (EVEN if your remaining purchase still qualified for the FULL value of the certificate/gift card used!
In this "reward" program for customers, they issue the rewards ONLY in $5 increments (and assign different valid beginning/expiration dates(!!!) (so you must purchase more than one item in order to use all your "earned" points if you earned more than $5 in rewards in one time period!) and THEN, if you DO purchase something, do NOT make the mistake of buying more than one item with that reward voucher, OR birthday "gift card" because even if your remaining purchase would STILL qualify for you to use those points or that gift card, part of the value is forfeited for returning even ONE of the items you purchased (if the item was expensive, you lose more money than if the returned item was a cheaper one in the order).
This also applies to "Free gift card with purchase of..." type promotions. We learned the hard way. Buy the promo item in a SEPARATE transaction. If you buy more items, part of the value of the "FREE" gift card with purchase will be deducted from any item returned, EVEN IF that item had NOTHING to do with qualifying for the "Free" gift card!!!
Example: "Free $10 gift card with any $75 or more Lego purchase" (the fact that they overprice ALL their Lego sets every day is a separate issue, addressed below). You purchase not only $80 worth of Lego items, but many other items as well. If you return even one of those "other" (non-Lego) items, part of the "Free" $10 gift card you earned is DEDUCTED from the price of those items in figuring your refund, even though you kept all of the purchase that was required to receive the "free" gift card!!
Class action, anyone?!?
For regular reward voucher or coupon/gift card purchases, Pick ONE item to purchase using the purchase incentive, whatever it may be, and make sure its something you're going to keep, as you will NOT be able to re-use that value if you return that item!
We finally figured out how to play the game. 1) Pick an item as close to the value of the reward certificate or gift card as possible, and buy ONLY that item (making sure its one you'll keep). 2) Quit shopping there.
They also overprice ALL Lego items by 10-20% or more (its always in whole dollars more, to make it difficult for anyone not knowledgeable in Lego pricing (like Grandmas) to notice, so lower-priced sets, (ie. $9.99) can be marked up more percentage-wise(to $11.99) than higher-priced sets ($80 set increased to $90). Any Lego sale they have just brings the prices down to equal normal everyday prices at Target. Just recently they had the $40 (MSRP, normal TRU price: $45) new Harry Potter Hagrid's Hut set (correct MSRP prices on all Lego sets can be verified at Lego.com) on "sale" for...$40! (Wow, what a deal. All Lego at Target is correct MSRP every day of the year, and sometimes they even put them on (real) sale!)
15% or more markup on every Lego, every day? Sending kids a birthday "gift card" and then yanking it back again if they change their mind on one item and you were dumb enough to buy several other items in the same purchase? This experience has only served to cause me to buy (much) LESS from ToysRus, not more. I have in fact recently returned items I would have kept if not for the above experiences, which have made me decide I'd rather buy the same items from another retailer who treats customers fairly.
Burn in flames, ToysRus. I hope your business ethics put you OUT of business. This ISN'T the type of economy in which people enjoy being ripped off!!!

Scam
I was just informed I was fired due my second background check by USMA! I have already quit my other job and now I am out of another. is there anything I can do? I contacted USMA and they said I have to wait 15 business days to get the report and until then there is nothing I can do. I am very upset because now I have bills. Can I take them to court over something like this?

No warranty honor
We bought our kids a Nintendo Wii for Christmas last December. We no longer had the receipt. It stopped working recently and we wanted to warranty the product. We went to the Toys R Us store where we bought it hoping they could either warranty the product themselves, or since it was serialized, print us a proof of purchase so we could warranty it directly with Nintendo. They can't do either. We called their 800 number hoping they could help us, but they said they don't currently have this capability in Canada. I'm an entrepreneur that has had a number of businesses and I was always able to print a receipt for a customer with a serial number. Wow! we recently bought a TV at Costco. They have a two year return policy on most electronics. I suggest you shop elsewhere.

Advertising and Pricing
Last night, I went to Toys R Us to buy the Power Wheels Lil Quad for my daughter. I had a 20% coupon I received in the mail. I was told that I could not use the coupon on this item. I bought it anyways for $99.99 and it is already out of the box and assembled. Today, I found out that Target has it for $59.99. Toys R Us had ripped me off. I called the store only to find out that they don't do price matching or will accept the return because it is assembled. It has not even been a day since the bought the unit. I am so unhappy. I talked to the supervisor and she was no help and gave me the 1-800-TOYSRUS number which also did not help. I am going to report this it the BBB because in this tough economy $40 is a lot of money for a consumer like me to be ripped off. I will never shop at Toys R Us or Baby R us again and I will pass the word around about this unhappy experience.

Don't shop there
I spent a little over $300.00 @ toysrus on 12-21-09. one of the items i bought was a socom ps3 game for my son. come to find out u had to have the internet and all kind of other crap to play the game just not a ps3. the reason i didn't know this prior is because u can not actually see the game u have to get a little white piece of paper with the name of the game on it and then carry it to the cashier where she gets the game and then rings u up and then puts it in a bag. i guess their worry about people stealing them. but anyway i contacted them to exchange the item and they told me that they wouldn't exchange the item are give me my money back due to me not having an itemized reciept. i threw the oringal reciept away but i did have a bank statement stateing that i spent a little over $300.00 dollars there on 12-21-09. i was told that wasn't good enough. toyrus talks about how they are for kids but yet they conduct business like this especially around christmas. so i say f toysrus and any franchise with them. i will never by another item from toysrus in fact i hope they go out of business. peolpe like this usally get what they deserve. i agree with the other consumer WALMART all the way.
