Target Warehouse #557 Reviews

Joel North December 11, 2010
Fired for being tired
I have been a snowplower for 20 years. Obviously with the economy the way it is, people like landscapers/snowplowers get laid off and need help providing for their families over the holidays. I got a job through a temp agency at Target distribution center. They promise 32 hours a week, Thursday 6-4, Friday 6-4, Saturday 6-6. The only week I got the three days of work was over Thanksgiving. Gee, did'nt see that coming, but never the less it was a pay check. The temps do ALL the physical labor. I worked in a few different areas. I unloaded semi trailers by hand so they could save room by not using pallets. But mostly I worked in an area where you put heavy boxes and products onto conveyors and they go elsewhere in the facillity. The products weigh anywhere from about 5 ounces to 100 pounds. This isnt new to me being a landscaper. But when the temps are doing all the heavy lifting while the actual Target employees do hardly anything. I would be so sore at the end of my shift I could hardly move. I worked on Thursday 12/09/2010 and that night we got 1-3 inches of snow that night. I got through plowing at 4:30 and went to Target for my Friday shift at 6:00. I went on break at 9:30. When I returned, I was told I look tired and I've become a safty hazzard. The department manager then told me that he was watching me work and I'm not at 100% but rather 90% compared to how I usually work for him. I told him I will try harder and I'm sorry. He told me that he would like me to go home and get some sleep and return the next day. Then escorted me to the front of the building. When I get home however, there is a message from the temp agency stating I was not to return. Target told the agency I could not have a second job and they did not want me to return, and the temp agency told me it was my fault for telling them I was plowing. In fact, I had actually emptied 5 more carts by my break than I did the day before. I've only gotten praise for my work and reliabillity, and think that I should have got a second chance. Now the temp agency is also mad at me, and I may be loosing my unemployment due to getting fired from a job. The temps make $11.00 per hour while the Target employees make from $16.00 to $30.00 to do less work and yell at us all day. I think Target should be ashamed of themselves! The only reason I'm doing this is someone needs to protect people like me who want to be in a fair work environment. It's not about the money, but the fact that a company the size of Target can get away with stuff like this and think that nobody will do anything about it. If anyone reads this, PLEASE do your shopping somewhere else! Tell Target that honest, hard working people wont tolerate it. Joel
