Scam and fraud
I bought this model in September of 2007. The first time I used it, I brought it back because it was making a very loud noise when playing DVD's. They replaced it, but about three months later, the same thing happened. I called the store and it was past the 90 day warranty. The noise got so loud, that I had to crank the volume to get it so where I could here over the sound of the DVD. Now, all of a sudden, the DVD player went out completely. It sounded like an airplane was taking off. Well, the TV works fine, but the DVD player keeps giving me a WRONG DISK error with all the DVD's I play. This is junk. I have a cheap Sharp TV that I purchased in 1990 and a Sony TV I purchased in 1992 and they both work great. I had two Trutech's and they both lasted less than three months. Junk!

Bad service
The other day, my 18 1/2 year old son, who's a US ARMY National Guard Soldier, bought himself a Star Wars LEGO set at Target, that cost $49.99. He just wanted something mindless and fun to do because he leaves in a week for a year deployment to Iraq.
Well, he got home that evening and sets about to build the set...and the bag numbered #1 is totally missing. Which makes the set basically worthless. So, my husband and I said we'd run out quickly to Target at 9 pm, to make an even exchange for him. He no longer had the receipt because he said he only bought 2 beach towels and the Lego set...he didn't think he needed to keep the receipt, so he had tossed it out. PLUS, he paid cash.
I get up to the returns counter and the girl tells me that because its an item over $20.00, there is nothing she can do, saying that the computer locks her out if its over $20.00 without a receipt. I said, "But I just want an even exchange". I got the "sorry, there's nothing I can do". So I even explained that he's leaving in a week for a year in Iraq and that by the time I contacted the Lego Company, he'd be in Iraq! She repeated there's nothing she can do.
So I walked away...mad and near tears. Then I decided to go back and speak to a manager. She got one who came out and this guy of all about 20 years old, tells me the same thing. I had explained it all again to him-adding again, that my son was leaving on a year deployment next week to Iraq and I just wanted an even exchange for him to have something fun to do. The guy says, after I said the part about my son's deployment, "Well, THAT'S not my problem, (EXCUSE ME!!?? How DARE he say something like that about my son deploying off to war!!!) but I can't do anything about this without a receipt. Did he use a credit card?" I said, "No, he paid cash." He says, Sorry, I can't do anything. He just has to find the receipt." AFTER me telling him the receipt was thrown out!
I use to love Target and defend it to those who hated it. Now, I'm one of those too.
I WILL be sharing this story with everyone I can!

Target's poor return/exchange policy
I purchased a Dirt Devil vacuum at a local Target store on 02.28.08.
This vacuum, although it works well, breaks belts about once a week. I have had other vacuums over the past 30 years that I or my wife have used in exactly the same way and with the same frequency, and we have never had this problem.
When it broke its most recent belt the other day, I decided to return it. What I would like is another vacuum, or to be reimbursed for the cost of the vacuum I bought only 3.5 months ago, which is nearly useless.
Unfortunately, Target has refused to allow me to return or exchange it, because we are 2 weeks past the 90 day limit on their receipt.
This is a mistake on Target's part, because I will never buy anything that costs more than a few dollars from Target again, I will avoid shopping at Target whenever possible, and I will also make sure my friends are aware of the inflexibility of Target's return policy. Target's policy of never making an exception is counterproductive and unsupportable. Other major retail chains are willing to extend themselves on occasion to retain the loyalty of their customers, in consideration of past business and in the interest of potential future business.
I am very disappointed in Target's refusal to do so, and will definitely adjust my buying habits accordingly.

Non responsive
In Sundays paper there was an ad for mattress topper. I drove 15 miles and could not find it so they paged a lady 3 times and she finally shows up and proceeds to tell me that there were a lot of boxes upstairs and it could be in one of them, but she hadn't had time to do it. So I should call back or get a rain check when she got around to unpacking them. Now tell me why you have and ad in the paper have people come in your store, especially a special trip, and be told to come back another time when your employees get around to it. How insulting. Next time I will use Target or another store.
Thank you.

No warranty
I bought a Dual Screen Portable DVD Player and the extended warranty from the Target Store in Springfield, Ohio in January. This morning (6/21/08) we turned it on and one of the screens only had a big white blob, and no picture. We called the customer (dis)service number for the warranty and they absolutely refused to make good on the warranty, saying that it was intentional.
We discussed and argued with them, but all they did was interrupt and talk over us. We returned the player to the store, and they refused to do anything because it was after 90 days. I explained that we purchased the warranty plan, so they should take care of it for us. I then asked if they could call the warranty service, since it is Target's logo on the warranty sticker on the player. They refused. I told them they should stop selling a warranty program that does not do what it promised. Thanks to target, I am out $180 for a junk DVD Player ($20 of that is for a junk warranty). DO NOT EVER STEP FOOT IN A TRAGET STORE EVER. AND NEVER BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I contacted Target and explained the situation. I received an e-mail with a telephone number and a contact person. We contacted them, a long-distance call, just for them to say that Target's upper management refused to make good on the problem. What a rip off.

Terrible working conditions
I worked at Target from March until July of this year. They treat their employees like slave trade.
The logistics team is forced to work in semi-darkness, an impossible task when being expected to sort and classify merchandise.
The air conditioning is not turned on to appropriate levels until minutes before opening. The workers are worked, "faster, faster", while being denied appropriate access to water, and bathroom breaks.
Personal information about employees is shared at team "huddles", and workers are repeatedly told that they are not indispensable.
The press states that Walmart has a poor record as an employer, it would be wise to open an eye towards the "hip, socially forward, discounter".

Rude and unfriendly
Today 7/14 I went to Target located at Brookhurst St, Garden Grove, normally I will avoid this store because their associates and specially the security man are the most rude of all Target stores I had visited. I wanted to exchange repeats toys my Tot got for his birthday, all the boxes are big so I needed a cart, I parked way far from the entrance (no front row parking) and spotted a cart nearby, when I walked to the cart one of Target associate came at the same time to retrieve it, I called and said 'excuse me, I need the cart please' he just walk by in front of my nose, I repeated 'excuse me' 3 times but he kept walking on, so I run to the front and said 'excuse me can I have one cart please'? His answer was: 'NO' and kept walking, so I said 'excuse me?' (As in 'why') and he said 'NOT WORKING' ... Weird ... he can push the cart and the cart is not locked, so why is not working? ... at this point I decided to go in the store and get the cart which he yelled at me saying: 'The cart is not working, the 'Wheels too Wobbly' ... ok ... But guess where he put the carts he retrieved from the parking lot which he won't give to the customer who needed it? Inside the store with all others carts! Good thing was the girl who attended my exchange were friendly, security as usual will look at you like you are a theft and will not help you at all even if he was in front of you and you needed assistance. They gave me a complaint sheet to fill out or told me to call their 1 800 ... I spent almost 20 minutes waiting to load my complaint to their customer service, but they win this time again, I hung up after 20 minutes as nobody answered my call (this would be my second complaint with this store)
The best target store: Westminster Mall, Westminster and Marketplace at Tustin/Irvine.
The worst of the worst: Brookhurst, Garden Grove their manager Mr. Nam Tran doesn't want to be bothered with complaints and love rude employee’s specially rude and unfriendly security guard.

Never again
In the past couple of years, I've been invited to a few weddings that I have not been able to attend due to the fact I moved to the other side of the country. On two occasions, my friends had been registered at Target. I think, "Great, Then I can order something from their registry online and have it shipped to them."
Both times I have done this, I have placed the order more than a month before the wedding, the order has gone through, says it will be delivered in a week or two, and then 2-3 weeks after the wedding date I get an e-mail stating that my order has not gone through and it will not go through for another 4-6 weeks. The first time I cancelled the order and sent something else. This past time, I'm just letting them get their present late, with a card included stating that "I'm sorry that I will be missing their special day and I'm sure it will be beautiful."
Annoying Target, annoying. I'm 24-years-old, at prime wedding-going age, living thousands of miles away from most of my friends, and I won't be purchasing any more registry items through target.com.

Would not exchange damaged item
Target return department would not exchange a 14.99 rug I purchased on 7-7-08. I used my blank check for a receipt look up but their was no record I made the purchase just a day ago. This method of receipt is suppose to be just as good as the original receipt. I wanted only to exchange for the same item that was not damaged (snagged). Apparently I had 2 returns without a receipt for the year (?), so now I am not allowed to do any returns for the year without a receipt. I now re-purchase the same rug again after being denied the return of the first damaged rug. I simply wanted to return one of the rugs and now I have a receipt! Return desk said I could not do the return because it was illegal. ILLEGAL? I HAVE NOW A VALID RECEIPT AND WANT TO RETURN A RUG!! The point I AM MAKING is just a little customer service and a no big deal exception should of taken care of this frustrating experience at Target. A no bend rule, even if it will save business seems to be their way of handling a situation. I will truly go out of my way not to shop at Target. Wal-mart is a good alternative and K Mart will have to do. The level of service from a regular employee to the head cashier/supervisor are the same. No customer satisfaction and management skills that are truly lacking in many ways. Lastly, if I saved every receipt from Target I would have 100s and 100s. Cat food, chips, tank tops, dish soap, shampoo etc. are not worth saving to me. What happened to my receipt look up anyway? I spend 1000s of dollars on a regular basis at Target but when it comes to a customer satisfaction situation they could care less. Target-A ture failure to customers.
