Forced to accept gift card at return
My email to Target:I bought items- sub-total was $59.36 with $2.97 tax & $3.00 store coupon. Total was $62.33. After a $10.00 pharmacy gift card, I paid $52.33. I later returned the $24.89 item with the receipt. INSTEAD of a refund of this amount, I was given another stupid gift card and a credit of $16.14 to my credit card. The clerk was rude. She said the "computer" did it and she couldn't change it. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she was a manager. This is one of the reasons I rarely shop at Target even though the store is close to my home and work. I feel like you stole $10 of my refund and held it hostage. I am too busy to carry around and try to remember to redeem a gift card. I hate the things and I don't want to use them. I want an explanation and I want this garbage to stop. It's wrong.
Their "canned" "useless" reply did not address my complaint: Dear Target Guest,
I'm glad you've taken the time to write us about your return experience. We're sorry you didn't receive the type of service you've come to expect at Target.
We know the importance of having well-trained and professional team members. And I know it can be frustrating if you receive inconsistent information about our return policy.
I'd like to assure you that the team member attitude you described isn't part of our guest service philosophy. Hearing your comments is very important to us and I've shared them with the Gaithersburg Store Leadership team for further review.
Our Guest Experience Leadership team is dedicated to providing you with the service you deserve. If you ever have any questions or concerns about our merchandise or services, please visit Guest Service and speak with the Guest Service Team Leader. They'll do their best to help you. You can also call our Guest Relations team at (800) 440-0680. Either way, we're here to help!
Thanks for helping us make Target even better.
Sincerely,
Marisa

Terrible experience
I am a loyal and frequent customer of Target. I have a registry there, and have received a few duplicate gifts that came from this registry. Some of the items did not include receipts, and I asked for them, but the gift-giver did not have them. I simply wanted to exchange the items, a total of under $50 and I was told that I could not because they were over $20 (only by a dollar or two). I have never heard of a more ridiculous customer service policy in my life! Target is telling me that I have to live with their products, which I don't need, didn't open or use, and which are not electronics (so don't give me that line). They sure picked an inappropriate time in today's economy to refuse to accommodate customer's needs. At a time when other stores are making special considerations to help customers, Target is taking extraordinary measures to make our lives difficult.
The woman behind me was told that she couldn't return her items which were under $20, because you can only return two items per year with one license if you don't have a receipt. She'd apparently reached her two limit max. She was also returning two things that she received duplicates of from a registry, and the other items she had returned were also from that registry, which apparently no target employee knows how to use.
I'm not only boycotting Target, but encouraging everyone out there who can read and forward this message, to do the same. We have rights as consumers! By continuing to shop there, we are allowing Target to take those rights away from us. If Target thinks they can take away our consumer rights... then we must show them we also have choices and they do not have to be one of those choices!

Bad return policy
Target will not allow returns of any product that was purchased in a box and assembled, even with the receipt.
My brother purchased a tv stand for our mother who is in assisted living. He assembled the tv stand, but it was too short for her to use. The next day we returned it to Target and asked to exchange it for a taller one or get a refund. The response was, "you should have noticed the dimensions printed on the box before you bought it." They refused even a partial refund SINCE IT HAD BEEN ASSEMBLED. We mentioned that their policy should be posted. The supervisor on duty was not concerned and dismissed our request. Buyer beware! If you are not absolutely sure of the item, don't buy it from Target. You will not be allowed to return or exchange it. We will avoid this problem in the future by not buying from Target.

Bad service
Target comes on with "free shipping" but they don't advertise the high "handling charge". I continued with the purchase anyway, however I won't buy from them again.

TV broken
Purchased TV from Target and it broken in the first six month. The TV just stopped working and will not turn on. I was told by target it needed to be addressed by the company and they can not do anything. The company told me to send the unit back with a check for $65.00 and they would fix or replace the unit. I may have been a fool the first time but not a second time. This will go to recycling and I will never shop at target again. I will never promote target for any reason. What a poor chose to sell this product.

Credit Card
Today on August 13th, 2008 I made a phone call to my target credit account to pay my bill as I have since I first recieved the card 2006. I was informed verbally for the first time today that target would now be charging $10.00 to make phone payments. Since I did not want to pay this fee which I was never informed about before I opened up an account online for my redcard. After opening up this account, I noticed that the last payment that I had made on August 3rd, 2008 over the phone was charged $10.00 and I NEVER RECIEVED ANY NOTIFICATION of this charge. I called customer service and after speaking with a representative who could do nothing for me I asked to be transfered to a manager. I then spoke with Barbara a supervisor who's ID# was 59934. She acted extremely rude on the phone ignoring everything I was saying and repeating the same thing over again as if she was reading from a piece of paper. Although I iformed her several times that I never recieved ANY notification of this fee she kept saying that "I was verbally informed on the phone on August 4th" and that in January target had sent me written notification. I am extremely upset with how I was treated, I was not treated as a "valued cardholder". In the end Target has done nothing to help me in this situation. I work in customer service myself and seeing that such a large company is able to get away with something like this really blows my mind. Its that I mind paying the $10.00, but principle of the fact that I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED.

Bad customer service
I went to shop at Target. 2 associates told me that they can do price adjustment. They asked me to come back with the receipt. I went back with the receipt later on that day and one associate started to make the price adjustment, but she had problem to put full amount back to my CC and asked one manager to help. But the manager said to the associate that she cannot do the price adjustment. All the time that I spent drove back and forth to the store, waited in the store about 1 hour for the adjustment, at the end I been told NO. The manager refused to give me his name. The store location is Easton in MA. Very bad in customer service. I even tried to call 1-800-440-0680 and they gave me the same bullshit too. I would not complaint if they told me that they cannot do it at the first place. They made mistake, but they are not taking any responsibility. Not a good place to shop!!!

faulty raincheck
The day the ad appeared for rockband on sale for 99.99 I went to the store to purchase one. Of course they didn't have any. So I waited patiently for a clerk in electronics to help me. He told me he would give me a raincheck and went to his cash register and handed me a piece of paper which I assumed was the raincheck. Two weeks later, I went to the store again to get the item. Well what I was told was a raincheck was actually a piece of paper to request a raincheck!!! I've never heard of anything so absurd! Apparently the request was supposed to be taken to another cashier to print out a real raincheck!! So they would not honor it. I spoke to the manager who said nothing could be done. I called guest relations very confident that they would handle the misunderstanding. After speaking with 3 managers and 38 minutes of time, I was told they would do nothing. I'm very upset with their extremely poor customer service and will no longer be a customer.
