				Unauthorized charges

I purchased a couple of books on HotBookSale.com. When I clicked to confirm the order, unknown to me I agreed to join a club called SmartSavingCenter. By the time I discovered their 29.95 charge on my credit card, it was too late to do anything about it. The credit card company won't take off the charge. They say I "agreed" to it so there is nothing they can do about it. They are helping perpetuating this scam.

				Fraud

In my opinion, this Internet merchant uses a series of aliases such as book dealers ( HotBookSales and Discount Book Sales are examples) to operate a fraud. The fraud occurs when buyers are advised that a discount is given to first time buyers at a web site. Concealed elsewhere on the site is an offer but not a commitment for membership in SmartSavingsCenter at a monthly fee ranging from $29.95 to a six month fee of $119. These fees are not noted when providing a credit number to complete the sale but appear on the credit charge statement later. An allusion is created that purchasing a book is agreement to membership. First Data Merchant Services of Hagerstown, MD and Visa USA are complicit in the fraud by allowing it to continue. When contesting these charges report them as a credit card fraud and not a dispute. Send a letter to the Florida Attorney General. Do not buy anything from any merchant that uses First Data Merchant Services or SmartSavingsCenter.

				Sneaky recurring charge

I bought a book online. The book price was excellent, but little did I know that there was a nagging string attached. This scam is clearly trying to fly below the radar, hoping that no one will notice. Because this had happened once before, I was not charge the $19.95 that others have been scammed for. But I was hit with a recurring $1 a month. This leaking dollar is small enough that they seem to think people won't notice. So they're slowly sucking money from people's credit cards. In aggregate, this is probably big money.

				Unauthorized billing

We also order a book from Discount book sales and it went thru hotbooksales and they in turned said payment would be processed by smartsavings center. We have a copy of the confirmation email stating that for a $1.00 monthly membership fee we could get book at discount. Then, we could cancel membership later before the next month. Our credit card shows the purchase of book and membership fee and also an added charge of $29.95. I called and was told that the $29.95 was the actual membership fee and the $1.00 was the processing charge so I canceled membership. No where on confirmation email does it state an added membership charge of $29.95 to be automatically applied to my account monthly.

I will be contacting my credit card company next. I have copy of cancellation email. There was nothing on any of our confirmations about extra charges except that for a low fee of $1.00 monthly. If the billing cycle had been a few days later, I would have had another charge of $29.95 before noticing this scam and illegal charges.

				SCAM CHARGES ON CREDIT CARD

My Capitalone credit card is being charged $1.00 and afew days later $29.95 only identified as SMARTSAVINGSCENTER.COM 800-511-6538 FL. When I call the number, none of the 5 options get me any satisfaction or explanation as to what I am being charged for. I have never joined this "buying club." Hugh Webster 336.514.0549

				Charged without authorization

Charged $29.95 without authorization, then charged twice $1 without authorization. Did not respond adequately when called to company. Instead of apologies, tried to accuse me. Deceitful advertising.
