My Gran, a pensioner from JHB, had the misfortune of coming into contact and hiring Silva Autobody cc to service her car. A little 1969 Beetle a car that should not acquire 2 hours plus service - for an oil clean, and a fan belt change.

Charging her a “discount pensioner rate” of R356 for service alone. Then replaced her old fan belt with a dud, which broke (more like frayed ‘n rotted) the very next day. Leaving my Gran stranded, but luckily a Sasol was close by to help her out. Even the petrol attendant was shocked that she got so far.

Manny of Silva Autobody, promised to come out and fix the problem, as well as give my Gran the work sheet/invoice. Which he had not done, leaving her without a car or word for close on a week? I then on Tuesday the 22nd, drove my Gran to no. 32 Cleveland Rd, to sort this out. Manny proceeded to get quite aggressive, raising his voice to my Gran and totally disrespected her by ignoring her and talking over her. Which not only frustrated my Gran but was unnecessary and made her feel very tense and unhappy.

I don’t care how busy you are but you did not have to speak to my 83 year old Gran in such a disrespectful rude manner. You have caused her undue distress and made her pay R650 for a job left undone. I especially loved the way you tried to make it look like you were doing her a favour by refusing to write up an invoice, saying that if you were to do so, you would have to add Vat. Then proceeded to charge her anyway. Then above all, handed her a fan belt expecting her to fix it somewhere else. Or should she rather get under the car and do it herself?!

I hope that someone reads this and sends word out that no one should use your garage and services, as you are not a man worthy of anything. What goes around comes around – yours is coming soon.
