Recieved a plain white #10 envelope in mail with my address only; no return address & an unfranked Canadian stamp near the upper right corner. The Letter enclosed is about a check [drawn on Bank of America NA, San Antonio TX] for paying taxes on "Big Winnings" . Check is for $3, 875; the letter stated taxes would be $2, 875 on $125, 000 "winnings". Check was "to be paid directly to the Tax Agent." The letter also stated my name was one of 25 "selected from a random computer ballot system drawn from over 50, 000 names" in USA, Canada, & UK. I was immediately suspicious after opening this envelope & examaining the contents: 1.) appesarnace of the envelope; 2.) large amount of the check; 3.) a ticket number which I had not purchased or had any knowledge of; 5.) the small pool of people from whom my name "was drawn"; 6.) the general wording of letter & amount of "Prize Winnings".
This is a total SCAM! Don't be fooled! This check looks & feels like the real deal: appearance, paper, layout, wording, etc. Bank of America's Fraud Division will be contacted to alert them about the use of their logo & other items on this check.
