Rip off
I wanted a plan through peoplefinders for 1 month. I saw they had 12.00 a month so clicked on it...Ran 4 people searches with data coming back that was 5 years old!!! I know this because one of the searches was myself and I know the other people!! Next thing I get an email, those SOB's took $144.00 out of my account and will not refund it!!! All I wanted was 1 lousy month..May lose my car over this as the money they took was for my car pmt..I just ordered this 2 days ago and I cannot believe they are ripping me off this way ...What a company...Now after reading all of your complaints at least I aint alone...I am trying to turn them into BBB but need an address, etc and conveniently it isnt available

won't cancel my account
I have been trying to cancel my account for months and they keep saying they can't find my account/email but I keep getting charged 24.95 per month on my debit VISA card. This is outrageous...I have been on hold for hours during work which is very difficult...they are only open for calls Mon - Fri til 5:30...which is when I work so how can I contact them...they keep replying with form emails to my email inquiry...I am furious...they need to find my account and credit me for the months of charges...do not buy into this service which didn't give me any information that was not available to me online without paying...rip off

Fraud
Rip off!!! Do not use this company unless you want to be billed $24.95 monthly. Even though you only agree to paying 95 cents online, there is small print about receiving a free 3/1 member ship and as soon as you hit the continue button you will be charged.Rip off!!! Signed up for 1 month subscription and they took 12 months out of my account
PeopleFinder took over $131.00 out of my account, when I only signed up for one month at 14.95. They overdrew my account. Their website gave me three options to chose from and I chose one month at 14.95. Some balls taking out 11 more months in advance. I called and they told me I had two options. To pay for 6 months or 3 months. I told them no and they had one option and that was to refund me 11 months then cancel my subscription.

I wished I had checked the internet before I gave them my bank information. I don't trust them and you shouldn't either!

Scam, don't use
I used Peoplefinders.com to find a phone number for me. I was under the impression it was only going to cost $0.95. They ended up charging me and extra $0.95 to email it to me and then a hidden charge of $24.95 for not canceling a trial I did not know I had. When I called them to ask politley and nicely after I said I was happy with their service but wanted the charges I did not use or want or know of to be taken off, they said it was completely impossible. I called my credit card company to dispute the unautorized charge so we shall see if they can do anything for me. I hate it when people are devious. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLEFINDERS! Where is your integrity?

Bait and switch
On 7/6/10, I opened an account with PeopleFinders.com. I was immediately charged $19.95 for this "service" even though the website clearly states that if you cancel your account within 7 days, you will not be charged. I did not find the information that I was seeking on the website and canceled the account within 30 minutes of its inception as your program was not working for me.

I sent an e-mail to the company on 7/7 and received a reply that was very confusing and not helpful. I tried to call the company for clarification and was on hold for over an hour before I hung up. I tried again to call on the 8th and was on hold for 93 minutes before I finally hung up, (I have finite minutes to use since I have a cell phone only).

I sent another e-mail and received another ambiguous reply. Once again, I responded and requested a refund. I again received an ambiguous reply. At this point, I have reached a state BEYOND being upset with your company.

5 e-mails later and I FINALLY reached someone by phone today, 7/12, (this time the hold time was only 33 minutes), and I requested, verbally, a refund of the $19.95.

Your company refused to refund the monies, and instead, offered to "upgrade" my account as you claim that I had chosen the "wrong service" and should have contacted you earlier to resolve the issue. I have been trying to resolve the issue since I purchased the account, yet YOUR company makes that impossible to do!

I do not WANT an upgrade with your company. I want a refund of my $19.95. Your company is not one I wish to be associated with in any shape form, or fashion as I believe it uses bait and switch tactics and is a very dishonest company.

Ripoff - READ THE FINE PRINT
I subscribed to the $20 plan in hopes of finding an old friend. Upon paying the fee - I did a search and received information that was basically useless. They gave me a jumbled list of former addresses without dates for each location - so I had no idea what the current or latest address was. The same is true regarding the few phone numbers that was provided. There was absolutely no info provided regarding marriages or divorces.

After sending them an email notifying them of my issues and suggestions for improvement - I was simply given what appeared to be an auto-reply email describing their disclaimer (conveniently tucked away in a small 'Terms of Use' link at the bottom of the page), which states that they cannot guarantee information being provided, which also states that there are no refunds. They then had the nerve to contact me on the phone trying to get me to buy something else.

Bottom line: The info I received was basically useless. Their site uses misleading information to get you to purchase one of their plans while riddling you with options to buy additional services on top of the one you're already buying. The full disclaimer is tucked away at the bottom of their webpage, contained within a 'Terms of Use' link. Acceptance of these terms must be assumed, as you are not prompted with the option to accept or decline the Terms of Use. Do not expect a productive exchange with their customer service.

Beware
Beware if the "free" reverse look up search you get on a phone number has details such as 'unavailable'. peoplefinders.com won't be able to provide ANY additional information. Know this going into it.

You will be paying for the exact information you got for free.

When I requested a refund because of this the support person stated "can't per terms and conditions". She did offer me 24 hours of 'free' people searching.

That isn't what I wanted, but maybe I'll look up myself.

This is a lesson learned.

Please watch and beware of these scams going forward.

Online scam
Same complaint as Nicolina81 of March 24, 2008. I purchased services from People Finders via credit card. A week later Privacy Matters billed my credit card in the amount of $19.95 - unauthorized. I consider it an illegal act since I had never heard of Privacy Matters before. Like Nicolina81, the information that I did get from People Finders was worthless.

I have contacted my credit card company to protest the charges. I am still awaiting replies from People Finders and Privacy Matters. I am not a lawyer but I wonder if the unauthorized charge to my credit card violated any laws.
