Everything about HughesNet
After reading many of the complaints about this India based company (at least it seems like it is!), I agree with all of them. Starting off with the billing, I put the initial charges on my credit card and then couldn't figure out why I didn't get a bill the following month and realized that it was automatically billed to me through my Visa. I did not want to do it that way.... I wanted a printed invoice through the mail...for one reason I needed the invoices for the first three months to get my rebate. But that wasn't even the start of it. We have two lap top PCs (very new) and an up-to-date Macintosh in the house. I couldn't get any upload speed (slower than dial-up) and when I called tech support they told me to go into my computer and do all sorts of changes in my settings. I told them that it was all automatic and that isn't needed but after talking with 5 different people at 5 different times within 2 weeks nothing changed so i upgraded to "Pro" package that they assured me that it would help. HA! Now I'm stuck with a 2 year contract unless I want to pay over $300. to get out of it. I have AOL (and have had for years as dial-up because I live so far out in the boonies that satellite is the only thing I can get for high speed) and was having terrible problems even opening up my simple text e-mails so I decided to use HughesNet as my main e-mail. Thank goodness I still kept AOL because, even though AOL is slower than dial-up with HughesNet, HughesNet is very unfriendly. I have no way to download any images from my e-mails and when I called to ask how to do it, they told me that the sender must have sent it wrong (???) Therefore I have to foreward it to my AOL and then open it up. And.....videos? Ha! They just sit and rebuff. It used to take about 25 min. to send a 2.5 MG file dial-up and now it takes about 45 min. for the same size file. I will say that downloading is faster, but the whole ordeal t hat I have to deal with is not worth the speed of downloads. My neighbor had it and when his contract was over, he stopped it but it took them two months to cancel the service and of course he had to pay for that! When I get my tax rebate check, I am going to cancel my HughesNet. I just wish I had enough money to hire a hit man!
