Office Max Reviews

Return Policy
We as consumers need to quit buying anything from a retail store that treats customers as they treated me! During an effort to move across the state, I bought a $65 set of Ink Cartridges for an older HP Inkjet Printer to use in sending out resumes. Having already boxed my printer cable, I was unable to use that printer as I had intended. After our move, and after unboxing all our stuff (including our newer HP OfficeJet), I was in Morristown, TN and saw an Office Max Store; I went in and discussed the situation with a lady at the counter explaining to her exactly what I had done, (item, cost, time, etc.) and that I would like to bring the cartridges back and instead, get a new set for my OfficeJet. She said that it would be no problem giving me a CASH refund if I had my receipt. She proceeded to tell me if I wanted to go ahead and get the new cartridges that all I had to do was bring the others in with my receipt, to get my CASH back. So, I went ahead and bought the OfficeJet cartridges (another $60 something dollars).

When I returned the other day, with the unopened cartridges and my receipt to get my CASH back, they reneged and would not give me my money. Instead, they insisted on a giving me a gift card. Needless to say, since I don't need anything from Office Max right now, I don't appreciate them taking my money, lieing to me and forcing me to use a gift card for something I don't really want, or need. Obviously, if I hadn't been misled and if the lady would have told me that in the first place ... I would have done the return first and then purchased the new cartridges with the card. A swap out, if you will. Anyway, I will never buy another thing from Office Max, period; and I hope you will consider going somewhere else yourself.

Their attitude ... they just shrugged their shoulders and blamed it on Corp. policy and their cash register/computer program. Corporate ... had the same attitude over the phone!

There are too many decent people/businesses out there that we can help by giving them our business, we don't really need, nor can some of us afford to have these big box retailers always pushing us around. Please consider this the next time you buy! Corporate policy is only as good as we allow it to be. Otherwise, they change it to suit us, or they're out of business. After all, who keeps them going? Think about it ... tell everyone you know, and go to Staples or Office Depot! Thanks ... there is power in numbers!

Extened Warrenty Ripoff
We purchased a Chair October of 2007.
The sale person talked us into buying the extended warranty on the chair claiming it covered all areas of the chair for replacement. Again retailers Lie, Lie, Lie!!!
The chair broke at the weakest point of Chinese product manufacturing. We took the chair back to the place it was purchased and was told that we had to call the product assurance for replacement or refund.

Guess what today I received a call was informed that the part that broke was not covered under their total replacement extended warranty. Making office max a deceitful retailer, one that steals money from customers under the guise of warranty protection.

If you choose to continue to shop office max do not buy the extended warranty a total waste of money.

As for me I will never shop at Office Max again. I hope they enjoy my $79.00 purchase and the rip off of my extended warranty, because it is the last money they will ever get from me. They are not the only office supply store in town.

Their replacement warranty is a ripoff
We purchased an office max warranty with our Kodak camera, we were informed we could return it if anything was wrong with it for a new camera. 2 months after using the camera, the features were not working properly. After visiting the store, we were told, sorry! You need to deal with Kodak and here is their address! We were told to send the camera through the mail and Kodak would possibly repair the camera and return it. We purchased the warranty from office max!!! Any parent knows you do not go months without a camera, this is why we purchased the warranty!!! Their replacement warranty is a ripoff!!!

The most ridiculous policy for an online seller
I purchased a Nikon CoolPix L14 7.1 Megapixel camera from OfficeMax.com. OfficeMax.com has a 14 day return policy on electronics. What I found out today is that if you put the batteries in the camera to try it, even if everything else is intact, you cannot return it at all - even within the 14 day return window. Now I am stuck with a terrible camera and out $107.74! This is the most ridiculous policy for an online seller. This should be written in bold somewhere when purchasing the camera, because one should be able to try the camera and still return it within 14 days for online purchases!

14 day return policy!
I purchased a chair from Office Max and only 17 days after the purchase a wheel breaks off. I try to take the chair back or get a replacement wheel and they tell me that I am outside the window for the return policy. They only allow you to return something inside of 14 days. YES! I have my receipt. Most major stores allow at least 30days if not more. I will not shop at office max anymore.

Poor service!
FYI... Office Depot allows returns without a receipt. I purchased Office Max brand ink cartridges for my HP printer a month ago. They have Office Max brand labels on them and even identification numbers and are full of ink. They worked for a three weeks and then within the past week my printer is saying that they are not compatible. So I called the store asking about an exchange... nope. NO packing, NO receipt, then I get nothing. So spent $34 for something to work a handful of times and then quit. Not only one cartridge, but both the color and black cartridges. Why would I save a receipt for a month on ink cartridges? I've never had this problem before. Guess I'll go to Office Depot from now on or buy HP cartridges which are guaranteed by the company.

Lousy return policy!
Office Max wouldn't honor a return on a product that was returned in perfect condition with a receipt. It was a USB cord that was the wrong configuration. Their reason - past thirty days. They have lost my business for a long time coming for this lousy return policy.

Refused to replace defective cartridge !
I ordered office supplies in August from Office Max - enough to last me for a while. When I opened an Office Max brand Remanufactured Ink CXartridge in December, I soon found it was defective--no yellow ink. I contacted Office Max, requesting a replacement and was refused since I ordered the supplies more than 30 days ago.

Whether it's 30 days or 300 days, when I open an ink cartridge, I expect it to be of good quality. Office Max says I had thirty days to "inspect it" for defects. By the way, when I placed my original order, it took more than two weeks for the color cartridge to arrive. Office Max had somehow left it out when they packed my order--so it arrived separately toward the end of August.

It would cost Office Max next to nothing to replace their defective product, unfortunately, their shoddy customer relations has cost them a customer.
