Worst service ever
I was arranging an unexpected move while I was recuperating from brain surgery at Dartmouth. I was unaware that Nationwide contracted services out to inept companies. If I had known this, I would have taken my business elsewhere. I was quoted a price and I paid a down payment. It was also arranged for my vehicle to be towed from New Hampshire to Chicago. When I arrived in Chicago, I first found that my vehicle had been damaged. The driver's side door which the driver had to open and close to drive the auto on and off the ramp had been damaged to the point that the door actually fell off. I contacted Nationwide and was told that I had to deal directly with the contractor, Diamond Auto Transport, regarding this damage, because it was not Nationwide's responsibility. Upon contacting this company, I was told that the damage was 'inside the vehicle' and therefore, their company was not liable. The next surprise from Nationwide came when I was told that the amount of money I would have to pay for my household items that had been moved had been increased because the items had weighed more than they had expected. I had already paid $500 and now they expected me to pay around an additional $1300 instead of the $800 I had expected. Being very ill, I am on disability and do not have an extra $500 just lying around so I was unable to come up with the money. The moving company, Quik Movers, had their 'boss' get on the phone with me to put me in my place. I have never encountered a nastier man nor have I ever been spoken to so rudely in my life. He also refused to give me his name and threatened that they were going to take my belongings to 'an undisclosed location' to be put into storage. My belongings have been in storage somewhere for the past month and I have called Nationwide many times trying to find out how much I am being charged for this storage, but to no avail. Finally today, I contacted Cheryl Jones at 888-219-7171 ext 314 and obtained the totals as of today. The storage charge for the past ONE month is $1108.99!!! And she had notified me that Quik Movers plans to auction off my belongings at this time. The total amount that I must pay in order to avoid this is $2239.79 which I cannot possibly afford as I am on a fixed disability income. Needless to say, I am outraged at the dishonesty, fraud and lack of accountability that appears to be pervasive in this company and in the incompetent companies which they hire. My sincere hope is that this report will serve as a warning to others when they choose a moving service and I also hope that action will be taken against Nationwide Relocation, as I have seen numerous complaints specifically about this company on the internet, which I unfortunately missed before I hired them for my move.

Liars
The sales rep. completely misrepresented the services of this business. I learned 2 days before the move date that another company would actually conduct the move. The worst part of my nightmare was that the moving company would arrive on 9/24 but not deliver until 10/8. When I objected and asked to cancel, I was informed that I would lose my deposit of $578 because I had not submitted a snail mail registered cancellation letter within 5 business days of the move date, which I only learned of 9/22. This company representatives were extremely unprofessional. I strongly advise moving yourself if you can not afford a legitimate moving company, which Nationwide is not. In fact, I also learned that it is a broker not a moving company

Cheated by Nationwide Relocation Services
I am cheated by Nationwide relocation Services. When they get their money, their demeanor changes and you will be surprised that you are dealing with criminals. They laugh on your helplessness.
They kept my deposit of $715.46 and did not give me services. They asked me more money on the last moment when I refused to pay more money. They kept my deposit.
I hired Nationwide in 1st week of June for the moving date of June 25 from Atlanta, GA to Lexington, KY. The Nationwide agent Mr. Freddy, the nationwide agent confirmed that that movers will come on 25 or 26 and everything was included including packing material, packing service, mileage, gas, toll, shuttle charges etc. When I read the contract and asked about different legal term. Freddy said this does not apply to you. Then I emailed him stating we talked about these terms and let me know, if anything is not correct from our discussion. He confirmed everything that there will not be any hidden charges,
A moving company called on Nationwide's behalf and said, he will come on 26th in the afternoon. Then he told me that he will charge extra $365 for Atlanta Shuttle and also $365 for Lexington Shuttle.
I was threatened that if I will not be paying the stated shuttle charges, movers will not come and deposit will be fortified.
After calling/leaving messages to several people and ultimately on June 28, their Manager, MS Cicely she will get me moving without shuttle charges, but moving date will be June 30.
As promised delivery deadline was on June 28.They called me after 2 days of promised pick up date and told me that will move me without shuttle charges, the pickup date will be on June 30th and delivery will be after 3 days. If I will not agree for these days, my deposit $715.46 will be gone. They cheated and blackmailed me at the last moment and called me after several days of promised move date when I was already moved by another career. I had to hire another company urgently and paid $4500 for this emergency move

Don't use them
Don't use them to broker your move! they promissed me that my accross country move would take less than 2 weeks. The moving company they work with 1 Moving Depot picked up my items on June 15th, the deadline for delivery was June 22 to July 2. It is now July 8th all my household/personal items have not arrived and they are now telling me 2 weeks out and that is not guaranteed. 1 Moving Depot was rude to me on the phone said that if I wanted to pay more money maybe they could deliver sooner, that Nationwide Wide underbid the job.
Do not use Nationwide or 1 Moving Depot.

Fraudulent Quote & Move
Here is my story and of course I was trying to save money and got scammed. Letter to Julian which never got a rely so getting an attorney.
You "sold" me on the phone saying "anything I needed you'd be there by the phone even on your day off", yet when I call and email in distress there is no reply.
The move you quoted me was for 4249 pounds.
I paid via my credit card on 2/1/2010 a deposit of $813, 76 to your company.
On the move day I had more boxes than anticipated, but did not ship bedroom #2 on the quote which should have equaled the same amount of space.
The truck arrived on 3/1/10 and was too small for my load.
The truck already had another load on it, when you told me repeatedly my load will be the only one on the truck, and they'd pick up from my house
and drive straight to Florida since it's 8 hours and unload.
The driver of a Penske truck said he did not have room for my load and would bring 1/2 of the load and come back for the 2nd half a few days later.
I would be charged however for the 2nd move by weight.
I was in Florida already so I asked him to take off my items he has loaded (not much at this point) and I would get another company
since this was not what was promised to me.
The driver refused to take off my items on the truck, therefore holding my items hostage.
I had no other choice but to allow him to bring 1/2 of my things since I was already in Florida with nothing.
When the truck arrived on 3/2/10 it had another load on it.
It even had a mattress and box spring tied to the back door of the truck on the outside.
I was told this was the next customer's bed and they sure were glad the customer didn't see the mattress outside wrapped in plastic but in the rain!
My items were again held hostage until I paid cash to the driver.
He said my weight was OVER 4249 ponds and I owed more.
I had to pay $1175.00 cash to have my things unloaded.
The driver Dinko and his partner were nice and said the issues were with your company and not theirs.
They said Nationwide books the space on the trucks and lots of times they arrive and have been misquoted as in my case.
They said your company gets 813.76 for answering the phone and then don't care when the move is messed up.
(hence no answers to my calls and emails when things went awry)
I called dispatch and asked to see the weigh bills and the man told me the driver would show them to me.
I was finding it hard to believe my load was over 4500 pounds when it was only 1/2 of my items and boxes.
The driver told me he avoided weigh stations because they knew the truck was not packed correctly.
They said they took side roads to avoid weigh stations and therefore could not provide me the exact weights.
So I have now paid a total of $1988.76 to you and the movers and I can guarantee I did not have 4200 pounds
I now have to get another moving company to move my things today 3/8/2010 to get the other 1/2 of my things.
The cost of this is an additional $2, 000.00!

Missed quoted, no contact on pickup day, still waiting
We were grosely miss quoted, we were told van line would call day before with a time for pickup, no call, utilities shut off, lease is up, new jobs to start out of state in 3 days. Both individuals we spoke with lied about everything, going to contact a consumer lawyer. This is the worst company we ever dealt with. Here it is the day of the move and no call no moving van, we have things outside in the weather waiting for the truck (in michigan where it's beginning to rain, run away from this piss poor company.

Scam
I repeat, do not, DO Not do business with either company unless you are a masochist.
Here's my story -
Cross Country Van Lines, a New Jersey based company contracted by the just-as-disreputable Nationwide Relocation Services in Fort Lauderdale, FL, was due to arrive at noon in order to pack my boxes before the freight elevator became available at two p.m. They had exactly three hours to empty the apartment before we had to relinquish control of the garage to the next truck in line. There was no way around it.
I stressed to both the broker and the mover that it was imperative the truck arrive promptly because my lease ended that very day at six p.m. I also arranged for the electric and cable to be terminated sometime over the weekend and booked accommodations at a swanky hotel in my metro accessible neighborhood because it was pet friendly and I would be sans wheels (my car was getting shipped through an environmentally friendly freight carrier). I prepaid through Expedia in order to take advantage of the low room rates.
When the clock hit one and they failed to show I began to panic because I had also hired them to pack my boxes. My boyfriend and I made several dogged attempts to track down the dispatcher at Cross Country for an update but instead of reaching a human we were sent straight to a voicemail. Some guy named Simon who spoke with a heavy accent that was reminiscent of one of the Eastern European thugs from my GTA IV game, finally returned our call and brusquely reassured us that they were on their way.
Well, “they" never arrived. When Simon tried to reschedule with the promise of being there on Monday between 9-10:30 am and the elevator was only available from 9-11 am (trash trucks park in the garage from 8-9 am on Mondays which knocked off an hour for us), I more or less told them to where to go and fired off a letter to Pamela Ling, the deceitful broker at Nationwide Relocation Services (company also known as movingcost.com), who all but vanished into thin air once she received our $779.85 deposit. Funny how she couldn't be reached until I told her via email we were terminating our contract.
I immediately called my boyfriend and urged him to cancel his credit card in case they tried to charge him for the full fee. And then I did what any reasonably intelligent person should have done in the first place – an internet search.
I.could.not.believe.what.I.was.reading. I felt like a total idiot.
Both companies have been slapped with numerous violations and complaints on a myriad of consumer websites. What's the m.o.? Frustrating the hell out of you so that you cancel your contract and forfeit the deposit. If you are unfortunate enough to have one of their contracted crooks handle your move, prepare to be extorted. They will eventually hold your goods hostage in some undisclosed storage room and double the fees owed because your items “weighed more than originally determined." If they can't shake you down they will threaten to sell all your items and – to add insult to injury, that is, if they haven't literally roughed you up (some have threatened and/or actually inflicted bodily harm), they slap you with a storage fee!
We got taken but it could have been worse.
I scrambled to find a more reputable van line and arranged for Mayflower to arrive Thursday because it was the only day they – and the elevator – was available. Because of the negligence of the aforementioned companies, my boyfriend and I incurred a good deal of emotional trauma (my boyfriend later revealed he thought he was going to have a heart attack. He'd recently underwent a series of intense medical tests because he'd been feeling dizzy and winded) and a horrible loss of time and money. Monday night (my birthday night) will be spent hauling boxes from some storage company into the apartment. I was forced to cancel my flight and extend my lease through next Friday at $81 a day. I would have been totally SOL if someone else had leased it.
I am working with Expedia to see if the Westin will extend us a courtesy and refund all or part of the $300 we prepaid for the room or at least give us credit. I also lost money on the one night's stay in Scottsdale booked for the evening of the 30th. As expected, Pamela Ling refuses to return our deposit for services not rendered “until she talks to someone higher up." This has been an absolute surreal nightmare and I implore all of you to do your research and steer clear of brokering companies and dodgy movers. These people are not only unethical they are potentially dangerous. Some of these extortionists allegedly have mob connections. Honestly, I cannot prove any of this except to say it's what I read so be careful.
I'm working on a viral internet campaign to stop these people and their like-minded cohorts from swindling others. I spent all weekend posting on various complaint boards in addition to writing the Attorney General in Florida, the BBB, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the DOT, and now, here. Tomorrow morning I am sending certified letters to Nationwide and the President of the company at his home address (I was able to dig it up). I may buy space on thesqueakywheel.com and tell my story there. I also talked to a friend of mine who is a federal agent to see what he can do about it or what advice he has for me. Then there's the friend who is an internet hacker but I think I'll hold off on that. Twisted Evil
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. But I strongly suspect I'm blessed that these thugs didn't show up and take any of my belongings. However, here is the irony - the freight carrier picked up my car the very day I requested (Saturday) and said my car would be arriving in Phoenix Tuesday night - the day my flight was originally scheduled. It would have worked out perfectly if everything had gone according to plan. But because of what happened, I was sort of hoping my car wouldn't get there until much later in the week.

False Advertising, Fraud
SCAM!! This company offers low bids, then does a "bait and switch" with ridiculous fees that they say are in the fine print of the contract. The employees bully, lie and yell on the phone. Richard Hirsch promised to keep the the price he quoted - as soon as they got the $888 deposit, we were told there would be a $650 shuttle fee - then our friend Richard became belligerent, yelling that the information was in the contract. Hoping to get better treatment, we pursued supervisor after supervisor - only two, as they said there were no other people we could talk to. We cancelled our contract immediately, and they have refused to refund our deposit - the deposit we paid based on a FRAUDULENT, DISHONEST ESTIMATE. We are currently collecting information from previous customers and plan on pursuing this company through the District Attorney. If you would like to participate, please contact [email protected]

Idle Bashing
My complaint is regarding the idle bashing that I am seeing about an upstanding and legitimate company such as Nationwide Relocation Services. Surely some of the complaints against this company might very well be warranted, however, I do believe a lot of people are just "jumping on the band wagon" so to speak. I myself have used Nationwide and I must say that the service was stupendous. The customer service I received was extremely helpful and outstanding. Some of the complaints I've read about Nationwide thus far I find to be unfathomable! I do believe that more people should come forth as I have to stand up for such an extraordinarily candid company. My move from Missouri to New Hampshire went very smoothly, no bumps or bruises. I loved service so much I had them move my family members also, and they loved the services so much they referred the company to their friends and families. I have used this company for years, without ever having a problem and I even used then 2 months ago to this day. You people who are idle bashing, and you know who you are, should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to destroy this company's reputation with you slanderous accusations. I wasn't even asked to write anything but I'm merely being a good Samaritan. Numerous times during surfing the internet I've encountered this bashing and thought to myself, "someone should speak up on their behalf". So I did.
