Fraudulent business practices and denial of claim!
NHP is a FRAUD. They have denied my claim after they requested maintenance records on my furnace which is a contract stipulation. They say it is a pre-existing condition and thus the claim has been denied. NHP is a joke. My calls go nowhere. I ask for return calls and get none. They are giving me the run-around and I suspect I will never get anywhere with them. I have been told a dozen different stories by their phone reps - managers are in meetings, I will be called back, Disputes handles that, you'll get a letter, and so on. NHP does not honor their home warranty protection services. They steal your money and provide no service. DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY. You will not even get your money back if you want to cancel because the contract says you have to do it within 3 days after the contract starts. National Home Protection should be investigated by the Attorney General.

Fraudulent business practices!
National Home Protection is nothing but a shell company with a website only I am convinced. They collect fees and provide abysmal, IF ANY 'service'. They are almost entirely unresponsive, not only to there 'alleged customers', but to the service providers they contract with. They are unprofessional, unresponsive and operate without any decent business practices. It's sad to see the number of people adversely affected by this company, hopefully all of these incredibly similar complaints documented will help keep people from doing business with such an unethical company. Hopefully the NY Attorney General's office will pursuit justice for consumers.

Poor customer service!
National Home Protection (NHP) and I discussed contract agreements to include having immediate entitlement to NHP home warranty services for pre-existing repairs. The MAIN reason I DECIDED to go with NHP is because I was excited about them providing quality home repair service. But within 3 days of me speaking with the rep I decided I would wait to get the air condition later and just cancel the service. When I called, I could not get through the lines because they were experiencing technical difficulties. When I was finally able to get through, I explained to them that I was trying to get through to cancel the agreement so my card WOULD NOT BE debited. It was within the first week that I had the conversation. When I spoke with someone on the phone they convinced me to go along with the contract and they would send me a repair technician to repair the AC as part of their one time courtesy for new customers and that the call fee would be waived, per one of the other perks the sales rep mentioned. I went along with this and coordinated to have someone at my home to wait for the repairs and when the repair man arrived he said there would be a large fee because his services were not covered by my home warranty. Furious at the amount of time wasted, I demanded a full refund because not only were they able to deliver on their initial promises by sending a home depot card but they couldn’t even honor anything they previously said about my repairs. This should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.

Do not honor their contract!
On 9/11/2007, I requested (NHP) to send out a contractor regarding a heat pump. NHP responded by sending out a contractor. As a result the contractor repaired the problem as per request. On 12/13/2007, I again request NHP to send out a contractor to repair the same heat pump. This time NHP sent out a different contractor. This repair person recommended the heat pump replace due to normal wear and tear.
As a result of this contractor's recommendation, I contacted NHP as to the status of the heat pump at which time NHP advised me that they declined the request of their contractor because I needed to have had annual inspections of the heat pump.
I in turned advised the company that both repair and maintenance has been applied to the heat pump in which the last two were days were 7/15/2006 and 3/15/2007 by another contractor. NHP still declined the suggestion by their contractor to replace the heat pump. At this time I requested that NHP cancel my three year contract due to their decision not to honor their contract. NHP refused to cancel my contract.

denied claims
Re: Request for Commencement of Investigation against National Home Protection (Home Warranty)
Dear Sir:
I hereby request you to commence a formal investigation of National Home Protection, located at 42 West 38th Street, New York, NY 10018 license # not known.
On April 17, 2007, I signed up a contract (# 972-6124037) with National Home Protection to receive Home Warranty work for a period of one calendar year, at a price of $373.91 for Major system plan (Internet special paid with my credit card). After ~3 months I placed a service request for repair of my 3 1/2 ton A/C unit. (Claim #176133) Even though they talk about 24/7 claim service, it took them 3 days to respond to the claim by which time the 2nd floor unit didn’t cooling very good. They assigned DT- Air Conditioning & Heating Inc. as authorized service technician. It took DT another day to come and check the unit.
The service technician said, "You need a new coil. I will get authorization from NHP and get it done". I called the customer service and talk to supervisor in charge and made sure the coil is covered by my contract (As shown in Item #12 in coverage plan) and he said only because is over $300 need to go though authorization process. In next few days I was keep calling to get the answer but NHP dragging on the authorization. Finally they requested the maintenance record for the A/C system. I did fax the receipt of maintenance preformed last year. (See the copy). Anyway, NHP tactfully after 8 days told me, since our diagnosis indicated that you hadn't been cleaning the coil unit regularly, we cannot authorize this claim, and refusing to accept that the coil unit was checked and did not need cleaning at the time of service last year. (Stated by Energy Quality System Technician).
When I called back, the associate was very rude and didn't have anything more to add. Then, I wanted to cancel the policy, but I noticed that it couldn’t be cancelled.
At that point, I realized that there is no point in talking to them anymore. I was without A/C on 2nd floor for 2 weeks by now. So, I just make an appointment with my old HVAC Company to come and give me an estimate to change the coil. They gave me $1100 estimate which was $200 under the estimate I get from DT- Air Conditioning technician.
I really want BBB to follow up my complaint and file it with BBB of New York and let them to be aware of the bad practices of NATIONAL HOME PROTECTION Company because they are absolutely a scam/fraud.
They hired a bunch of very young and low experience employee, which most of them in claim side are extremely rude.
In my opinion, if a company is going to sell you a contract that says they are going to cover components and systems in your home, then they should cover it. End of the story. If they fail to send out the appropriate people to check and make sure all the systems are installed and functioning properly, that should be their problem and you shouldn't have to pay for their lack of
due diligence. However the consumer is sometimes left holding the bag even after paying dues year after year.
I am enclosing color photographs showing the condition of the A/C unit as it presently exists, and additional correspondence, including my credentials.
I will demand a full refund for labor and material for repair of my A/C coil. (See the Invoice)
It is my understanding that your agency has the authority to investigate and
Schedule a hearing. I would appreciate that this be done as quickly as possible because I do not want to renew my policy with them. I am available at 214/749 3225 during business hours to assist you at your convenience. Kindly notify me of all developments and thank you for your cooperation and courtesies.
Very truly yours,
Enghlab Eftekhari

Terrible service - denied claims!
We purchased a home warranty from National Home Protection in 2006. We couldn't at the time find anything bad about them online, we have since learned that the company was under another name at the time.
Our dishwasher broke and we called for a preauthorization which we received. There was no local contractor so we were told to hire our own (this after a number of 20 minute waits on the phone). The dishwasher couldn't be fixed. They needed to come back with a different part and the cost was going to be higher. We incurred the initial service call fee.
The repairman said he was waiting on a part and that it would cost over $180. We called NHP for preauthorization and were told because it was the same issue as the first one (approved initially for $65) we didn't need preauthorization. I questioned my wife about that, and she called back and verified it. They said to send the invoice from the repairman with the claim form and gave us a fax number.
We had it repaired and when we called to make sure they received the invoice we faxed they said it was declined because we never received preapproval. They wouldn't budge and we went from person to person. There are numerous other postings about NHP, it seems this is a common occurance with them. Must be there way to make money. All I can say is stay away from them. We are out $284 and NHP won't return calls!
