National Home Protection Reviews

September 2, 2008
Scam
I signed up for a Home Warranty with National Home Protection in Aug. 2007. In Nov. they did not answer the phone for 4 days straight. I assumed they went out of business. I called my credit card company and reversed the charges. They then had not gone out of business and I reversed the charges. They did not put my account back in good standing for 5 months. They then told me that they would extend my account for 5 months since it took so long for them to put my account in good standing. My account has now been expired according to them-I only got 7 months on what was supposed to be a year policy. There is nobody there to talk too-they just put you on hold and pass you around to all different departments. What a waste of time-do not believe that there is a $50 Home Depot gift card, there is not. Be very careful doing business with this company-they are bad news!!!

Hoe Warranty
They are the WORST. DO NOT WASTE YOUR money on these Scam Artists. They promise the world, but deliver NOTHING. From the get go, they offer you $50.00/Policy Home Depot Gift card, guess what? It is a lie. They will never send it to you. I have had 2 policies for 2 years, so over $200 worth of Home Depot Gift Cards, and NOTHING. I was stupid enough to renew with them the second time, which is another problem. Now, for the first time, we have a big problem. The pool pump is dead. They sent their own guy, and he confirmed that it died due to normal wear and tear. They sat on the claim for 3 weeks. My pool is dark green now. I called at least 10 times, and no answer. Finally they called me today. They are asking for all sorts of records, which they know does not exist, on a normal wear and tear problem, so they will pay for nothing. They are looking for loop holes not to provide coverage. This idiot, Timothy O'Leary, is telling me that I should have drained my 40, 000 gallons pool twice a year in order to satisfy their contract needs and requirements, and some stupid section in their contract. Can you believe that? Drain the pool twice a year. That is 80, 000 gallons of water in California. How STUPID this IDIOT is. I will be filing a claim against these Scum Bags in California shortly. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM. Scum bags!

Bad service
A week ago my furnace started making loud noises and I called my home warranty company National Home Protection (NHP) to have someone come out and fix the noise. NHP sent out a Furance Technician who looked at the issue and decided that the bearings were going bad within the Furnace motor/blower and the motor/blower had to be replaced. The technician called NHP and after discussing the issue with NHP came in and said that they would need maintenance records for the furnace before approving the repairs.

I just bought the house 2 months before and have had no maintenance on the house utilities; so, as a substitute they said I should send in the Home Inspection documents to include everything regarding the furnace and the page before and after. I faxed in the documents, called to ensure they recieved them and was told I would hear back in 24-48 hours. After 1 week I called them to find out the status as they did not call me as promised, only to find out that they had denied the claim because 1) there was not proper maintenance records and 2) the furance was not inoperable, they only repair things which are inoperable and not things which are broken, but yet working in a reduced capacity.

This is my second claim with NHP the first took 1 month to fix a water heater which the thermostat was broken after going through about 4 contractors.

This company has terrible service and makes it a practice to make repairs difficult or impossible to discourage payouts. Fortunately spring is here and I don't have to worry about my family freezing from the furnace issues, but will now have to pay $500 out of my own pocket to get the repairs - not to mention the $45 I had to pay for the initial contractor to review the issue.

Please stay away from this company and find a Home Warranty company which is more reputable. They also do NOT give you the Home Depot gift card which was promised at time of signing.

Fraud and scam
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! We learned the hard way and wasted 458.90 on a USELESS home warranty from this company. We were eight months into our coverage before we had our first claim and they did not pay, telling us they needed service records on an item in our air conditioning unit that could have no way have been prevented from breaking - a control board. I had to fix it myself - $395.00. They would not pay and would not call me back. The next week our water heater started leaking everywhere. Same story, give us the maintenance records. Once again they would not pay.

If anyone does start a class action suit against this company, count me in. They are crooks!!!

Unbelievably Bad Service
I cannot even go into enough details about how bad of service that this company provides. The week of issues and calls that I have had with these people is simply unacceptable. Being transferred...hung up on...voicemail...and never a single call returned to me. I am trying to cancel my policy which I expect will only happen with some type of lawsuit, which will wind up costing more than it is worth.

Do not use them is the best advice I can give you. I have had another one in the past which was not great, but in comparison to NHP, they were a saint!

Poor service
This letter is to complain about service I recently received from Jenkins Appliance a contractor of NATIONAL HOME PROTECTION. A representative of Jenkins Appliance came out to service my cooktop, made his assessment and never acted on it. He was paid the $45 service fee. I expected a much higher level of contractors from this company, and I am quite disappointed. Because we did not want to spend any more time on this problem, we decided to purchase another cooktop.
After speaking with Andy (a representative with NATIONAL HOME PROTECTION) on October 17, 2007, he suggested that I write a letter explaining the situation along with the receipt so that this claim can be properly resolved. I wrote that letter plus several other letters and to this day this matter has not been resolved.

I paid NATIONAL HOME PROTECTION for three years of service and was promised a $50 Home Depot Gift Card for each year. I have not received any gift cards only lies about it is in the mail.

This company is the worst I have ever dealt with.

Scam, Fraud, Rip off
I purchased a 1 year home warranty w/ National Home Protection on April 3, 2007. I found it thru online. I used the warranty for 3 services - 1 minor repair and the last 2 were a disaster! I didn't receive Home Depot card, no responses to emails, and never return calls. NHP ONLY sends me emails to remind renewal of policy. A person name Victor Hakim sent me numerous emails to purchase warranty and I sent him emails few times inquiring my Home Depot but never reply.
1. October 16, 2007 - Plumbing Problem in the Sink & Ceiling is Dripping Water from the Master's Bedroom (2nd floor)
I paid $45.00 service fee. Contractor mad a hole in the ceiling (downstair) in order to fix plumbing. Plumbing was fixed but left the ceiling with a hole. I reported to NHP about the unfinished job. I was told to hire someone to fix it and I will be reimbursed 100%. I hired someone and spent $225.00. I faxed copy of receipt to NHP. I called after a week and told me they never got the fax so I did the 2nd time. Month later, I called again, then I was told a different story - that I can only be reimbursed for $55.00($100.00 minus $45.00 service fee again) I asked to speak to the manager, transferred me to a name Michael Moore who was in the meeting, & I left a message. I did call him several times but never returned calls. He's always at meetings everyday! I spoke to one agent, and told me to email to Disputes. I did send twice. I finally got tired of it, so I told NHP to go ahead send my $55.00. I was told then that check will be mailed in few weeks. I called several times for follow-up & told me it's in the mail. I never got any check!
2. March 18, 2008 - Swimming Pool Pump Problem
I paid $45.00 service fee. Contractor reported NHP my pool needs a new motor. I was asked for a maintenance record before they can authorize a new motor. We don't carry any kind of record cuz we maintain our own pool on regular basis. NHP told me to send email to Disputes. I made follow up but I was denied due to no maintenance record. This was not specified in the agreement & policy. Other than that, they insisted that my policy is expiring soon and wants me to renew it. I told them, you refund my $225., do my pool service, and send my Home Depot, then I will renew my policy!

Please, people, DO NOT purchase your home warranty with NATIONAL HOME PROTECTION. Go online and you will find out all kinds of complains against NHP!!! Why is the business still on?

Fake rebate deals to pull customers
Stay away from National Home Protection. It's been over 8 months since I sent the rebate form for Home Deport gift card and have got a run around since. Their web site has no contact numbers for the rebate. All I'm getting is a reply that's it's in process, followed by a hang up. Good luck filing a claim also, since it's a nite mare.

Fraud
I was told if I renewed my policy by a certain date I would receive a $50 Home Depot gift card. I renewed and I have never received a card. I was told by Adele in their company that my paperwork was correct and I would receive the card February 5, 2008 but it never came. They are now telling me that it was "denied" and that they will NEVER give me my card, although my paperwork was correctly submitted. Adele misrepresentated herself as a manager. I have never received a telephone call back from anyone in the company. I have been put on hold for 30 minutes and longer with no one ever coming to the phone. I have been told names of managers, and later told they are not managers. I have been lied to by the company and want my Home Depot card or a complete refund. They use the technique of intimindating customers.

Failure to honor warrenty
I am already a current member of NHP and am not happy with the service you are providing.

I had a problem with my AC, I called and you sent out a service tech. He call back with his recommendations and NHP called me. I have sent in everything requested back on March 27.

I waited and called on April 2. George Stevenson first they said they did not receive my faxes and after I told them I have the confirmation, the rep. found them and said that the person that received them did not not them. He reviewed them and said I would have a response in 24 hours.

I also asked to speak to a supervisor and left a message and never heard back form him?

Now it is April 8, no response. I been on hold for 20 minutes, the rep. John Deldolca said Cooling Service did not call you back, when in fact, I spoke to the owner of Cooling Services and said NHP has called 3 times and he has give you all the info.

First I asked to speak to a manager, he he said no way! Unbelievable, then he connected me to Johnny and it was another voice mail?

I again refaxed the info to 877-830-1642 3 separate times on April 9, 2008

I was told that Mike Moore was in charge and asked to speak with him. I was told he was in a meeting and both Tiffany and Erica would leave a " Red Flag Message"

When I called back in the afternoon Tiffany said he left but would call.

Now it is April 9, I have not heard from Mike Moore and when I called at 1:35PM central time, he was not in again. I have been on hold for now 20 minutes.

Finally, I got John Deldocla, again on the line and he says he does not have the faxes? Funning, they found that fax but know say that the system was leaking althought three contractors report no leaks.

When asked to speak to a manager Mike moore, Iwas told that it is really Rick Sanders. waited on hold to speak to him for 30 mintues before being disconnected.

Do not use this scam of a company.
