Cancellation of service
I've attempted to cancel services due to the sale of my home and this company has indicated it must be in writing and that once they recieve it they will cancel services. They continue to develop new reasons as to why I can't cancel and they can't provide me with anyone that will tell me the same story. I continue to receive a monthly bill and I'm concerned this will go on my credit report if not paid. What advice other than beware this company, it is a complete ripoff and no company should want this sort of negative pr. I will spread this as long as it takes to get rid of companies such as these that prey on the public.

Cancelled Contract
DO NOT USE MONITRONICS! I tried to cancell my account three times after my two year commitment ended. I paid the remainder of my contract in full, but I am still receiving bills, and every time I call in to resolve the situation I'm placed on hold for 10-20 minutes. These guys are impossible to end a commitment with.

Stay FAR away from Monitronics
The following letter has been sent multiple times to Monitronics with no resolution...

Excuse the following angry tone of this letter, but I am quite frustrated. For the last year I have been dealing with your company's poor customer service. It has resulted in the repositioning of your sign in my front yard so that it's not noticeable to potential clients - and will soon lead to me putting flyers on every house in our community telling this story.

After a year of talking to too many Monitronics representatives on the phone to count... this issue is still not resolved. And it's a measly $40 charge.

It begs one to ask: What is going on?

I've decided to stop calling, since that has not worked previously. I will write it all down here instead. Please forward it to a person that can actually do something about the situation.

The story:

After a botched sales job where the representative misquoted the price of having touchscreens installed (first big disappointment in your company) we had several installation blunders as well. One was that the installer didn't know how to even install the touch screen. The other was that they didn't know how to work it or tell me how to work it. It went on and on until finally things were cleared up by another installer that knew what he was doing.

Through all of them - we were told that our dog would not set off the motion alarm - as they had been rated to 'ignore' small pets. They asked the weight of our dog and concluded it was properly rated. I figured it was the heat sensor that worked according to body size. In any case - with this reassurance (from multiple representatives of your company) - we were not concerned.

Fast forward to our dog, of course, setting off our alarm. Why was this happening? No one at Monitronics could say - but they were willing to eat up our free 'passes' and even charge us for one of the times.

We called as soon as we got the bill and were told it would be taken off, as yes, the charge was ridiculous.

To add insult to injury - we ended up with an alarm system where the motion detector was useless because a small toy-dog would set it off. Very disappointed.

Fast forward to today - the matter is STILL unresolved. This after numerous calls and WASTED hours explaining the same thing again and again. (which is why I'm not calling anymore.)

The last person I talked to was a very nice and seemingly competent supervisor named Sean (ID 8565)

He was VERY clear about doing the following (I made him repeat it - that's how I know how clear he was):

* $21 late fees removed
* Original $39 fee removed
* Original 'free' guard visits removed from record
* NonBillable service call to be set up to see why the alarm was sounding

Sure enough - we had installers come. A good sign! Finally Monitronics was doing what they said they would. They said, "Oh yeah, it might be that the dog sits on the couch and triggers the alarm." To which we said, "Obviously dogs like to get on couches if they're small - that's where they sit." So it was a non-isssue. They should have told us this from the beginning. We would have never set the motion detector. Very simple.

All was good.

Except... the next month I get a BILL AGAIN. $41??????

What is going on? I figured maybe it would take a while for the system to clear it - but no. We still keep getting the same bogus bill.

This needs to be handled asap - and it needs to be handled without further hassle to us. I think that $41 is pretty darn trivial when compared to the warnings we will give to future potential customers (via blogging, word of mouth and flyers if that's what it takes) concerning the complete failure of your ability to handle a simple customer service situation.

So - Thank you in advance for fixing these ridiculous errors on my account asap.

Sincerely yours,

xxx

It's been nearly 2 years since we first signed our contract with Monitronics - and this is still unresolved. Since this letter, there were several more calls that promised to fixed this issue, but in the end never did. At this point, we are waiting for our contract with them to expire.

Save yourself the unnecessary stress... Do not use this company.

Will Not Cancel Service
Almost two years ago after fulfilling our two year contract we called Monitronics to cancel service because our system needed repair and they never came to repair it, and were told we couldn't do that over the phone, we had to send a certified letter. Which we did. THREE TIMES! Then they said we needed to send ANOTHER letter to a different letter, which we did, THREE TIMES! All the while they continued to charge us for each month's service and send bills, and each month we would call them and go over all of this with them to no avail. Put us in collections too! They just will not stop calling and will not let you disconnect. Called again at 7:07 AM this morning, I have HAD IT but don't know who to report them to. If anyone knows who to report them to PLEASE let me know! I want to sue these people!

Failure to stop billing
I signed a two year contract with Monitronics International for a home security system. From Spring of 2003 until in the spring of 2005. In 2006 we had to move out of the area and called to cancel the account. We had fullfilled our original 2 year contract and so i didn't think it would be a problem.

The representative told me i had to write a letter of cancellation.

I wrote and sent a letter - and didn't think much more about it- figured it was cancelled. we were busy moving and starting new jobs.

My husband has always payed our bills- and he wasn't sure what this monthly charge was for (it is only 17.00) and finally remembered to mention it to me the other day-

It is three years later and they are still taking deductions out of our checking account.

I called their customer service and they claimed they never got the cancellation letter and there was no record of my call to cancel the service.

They said they would cancel it immediately- i will believe it when i see it!

I would not recommend Monitronics to anyone, their business practices are very questionable.

High Pressure Tactics
I used monitronics for a about 18 months but when I moved they threatened me endlessly so I continued to pay out the contract. On my last 2 checks I wrote - contract ends on ___ date, and on the last check I put paid in full.

They continued to harass me stating that I hadn't given them proper notification and that my contract was still valid. I probably got 30 or more calls from them... I just told them that I would LOVE to see them in court so to please go ahead and take me there! I haven't heard from them in awhile now, but they are NOT a reputable company. Period. Take your business elsewhere. There is no good faith or customer service type attitudes, only rude people who are pushy and will threaten you.

STAY AWAY FROM MONITRONICS!!!

Charged for services for one year after alam had been cancelled
I had a alarm system placed in my house. The installer was not able to get "good reception" so I would have the alam go off all of the time for no reason. After 8 different techs had come to my house and they too were unable to get the alarm to work. I finally had medtronics stop payment on my account. It was a huge deal I had to sent a letter in writing saying the account needed to be closed. A few days after I sent the letter I called to make sure they were not charging my account any more. I was assured payments would be stopped. Well, now it's a year later and I just signed up for online banking and noticed thousands of dollars that have been withdrawn from my account from medtronics. I'm sure it is going to be a huge battle with medtronics to get my money back.

Security monitoring
When I signed up for Monitronics, the contracts states I must have an active phone system at all time. I have a phone system but changed carriers. Monitronics informed me that they couldn't monitor with the phone system I had unless I bought a piece for $350.00 to go with the alarm system. I told them their contract didn't state that - that is just stated I must have a phone system and they needed to rectify the issue, not try to sell me a piece to add to my system. They refused and hung up on me.

Harassment
I would strongly advise against Monitronics! When I moved, they forced me to continue to pay for my contract (no buy-out) and then when it ended they have continued to harass me about the bill because they state that is wasn't good enough for me to write on my last 3 checks : Contract cancelled. I told them to go ahead and take me to court ... but they said no, they were just going to keep calling and calling and calling... this is their tactics.

Use another company!!!1

Poor customer service!
I have tried calling Monitronics 5 times to check/change my password, every time they are unable to help me. So Finally, I had a false alarm tonight. My alarm went off for no reason. and even when they called me asking for my password they didn't know what triggered it. I gave them my password, everything seemed fine. Well, i get a call an hour and half later and the person said the police were on their way and that there was nothing they could about it "they were sending the police for my safety" Apparently there was a misunderstanding about my password and I had no password on record. I starting going balastic at the guy on the phone saying I had tried to verify my password on the phone 5 times! Their customer service is the worst I have ever encountered.
