"insurance charge"
jc whitney adds a charge to their orders for "insurance" based on the amount of the telephone order. it does not add this charge for an online order. when i asked about the "insurance" charge i was told it is "in the event that the order is lost, it will help expedite locating the package" They say it is optional only after you ask about it.<br />
THIS IS A LIE! After the shipper picks an order up it is the shippers responsibility to track and recover. jc whitney has nothing to do with it.
They add $1.00 to $4.00 to each order and it is pure profit.
it is pretty sleazy to slip an extra charge into an order like this ...that adds up to alot of dollars each day

Changing dollar amount after order is placed
I recently placed two orders with JC Whitney and on both orders the dollar amount changed once the order was placed. - Beware

On the first order, an item was on sale ($80 off normal price) and it went through the order process with the correct price. Once placed, the price of the item reverted back to the original price. It was corrected several days later when I noticed the change and called.

On the second order, I had a coupon for free shipping. Again throughout the order process, the shipping discount was displayed. Once the order was placed, I was charged for shipping. This was corrected several days later when I called.

false advertising/shipping issues
I purchased a pair of Pyramid subwoofer speakers directly from the JC Whitney website on Feruary 10th, 2009. At the time of the purchase the availability of that particular item was "in stock, ships within 24 hrs.". I eagerly awaited my order. I was rather disappointed to discover backorder notice emails in April and another in May. By this time 60 days had passed and my original order was automatically cancelled from the JC Whitney system however, I was never officially notified. Luckily, I was made aware of the actual status of my order when I called to complain to a customer service representative. She apologized and then proceeded to assist me in re-ordering the speakers after telling me that the reason for the backorder was that the manufacturer was waiting for a specific component required to complete construction. She also said that she spoke directly to someone at Pyramid who assured her that the component was definitely coming in shortly and that the product would be shipped out within the week. Another week passed and I received a new backorder notice. I called Pyramid myself and discovered that that particular speaker was indeed in stock and could be shipped out to any supplier that needed orders filled, including JC Whitney. I called customer service again and was then told that Pyramid would only ship the speakers to JC Whitney once a certain quota was filled. I asked if that was a good way of doing business and got no satisfactory response from the representative. I also inquired as to why I could currently go online to the JC Whitney website and pull up the item to discover that its availability is supposedly still "in stock, ships within 24 hrs."??? Again, I got no satisfactory response. I contacted Pyramid again and was told that JC Whitney could do a "drop order" to fill my order but apparently someone in their operation is clueless. Nonetheless, I cancelled my order with JC Whitney and found another website that sold the speakers for a comparable price. I expect them any day now.

Provided Credit Card Number
JC Whitney somehow provided BLOCKBUSTER.COM with my credit card information. I contacted JC Whitney and the sale associate told me they are not associated with BLOCKBUSTER.COM in anyway. BLOCKBUSTER.COM had my name and JC Whitney name associated with my phony membership registration. How would BLOCKBUSTER get that information without JC Whitney providing it to them. Doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure it out?!?! BLOCKBUSTER.COM will not refund my money without me going thru my bank first. I want everyone to be aware of this scam.

Excessive charges, questionable intent
I had an interesting experience today with this company. I don't usually "bash" business folks, and I am not going to do it here...just the facts, maamm, just the facts.

This might be of interest to some if you do business with that company.

Called and ordered an oil seal kit for my 1951 M38A-1 Willys Jeep. I had a catalog dated 2007 and ordered the part by number...priced then at $12.99, (knowing it would be more now).

After much questioning including information not necessarily pertaining to the order, the lady said "we have that part in stock- $18.99"..

OK...that's quite an increase I said...would it be less if I ordered it online?

About the same she said.

OK, that's fine. What's the total, says I.

That will come to $25.95...and let's see.. it will be a total of $32.95...

Says I...hold on a minute... $18.99 plus shipping should be no more than the $25.95 you quoted...(remember- it was an oil seal sent in an envelope, most probably, via USPS)

Well, says she, there is insurance, SHIPPING (???)
handling, etc etc, etc...$32.95

About dropped my teeth and in a polite, but succinct (curt?) way said cancel the order, please; thank you for your time...and hung up.

HOWEVER, by this time she had all CC information, my cell number, which I stated I did not want to be abused, my billing address, my shipping address, my email address and a whole bunch of information I would not have given had I known what was coming.

As I think about it, over the years that is most probably the reason I use them very "sparingly" (last resort). Unfortunately, I did not check the other suppliers I know of that would have the item :-(.

FWIW ... and bit of diversion on this Thursday, March 19...(when are the Ides of March?)...:-) :-)

Shipped Item and Charged CC without any permission
I ordered a trailer hitch and returned it for a refund because it was damaged. I was getting the money back for this hitch included shipping charges ($145.99). Two weeks later I received another one I had not ordered and they charged me more ($149.98) then the first time from my CC without any permission. I was then returning the hitch unopened and was only getting $116.80 back. I was then contacting the live support. I could not believe what a incompetent person I had on the other site. I will never do business with them again, because there are lot more outside which have better prices and to care more about their costumer:

Support: The Hitch Ball is 8.00 and the Connector is 38.25. The shipping charge is 26.98 for a total of 73.23. That is the balance due. I will refund the 26.98 shipping charge.
Me: No no no, you charged $149.98 without any permission from my CC and without any order. I want my whole money back. If you could count, 116.80 + 26.98 + 38.25 is not 149.98. Please let me talk to your supervisor.

Support: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Support: If I refund all of the shipping charges on this order you will only be left with paying for the Hitch Ball and the Connector.

Me: HELLOOOOOOO, didnt you get it??? The Hitch Ball and the Connector was on my first order which was coming with the first hitch I ORDERED. The second hitch came without Hitch Ball and the Connector and without any order from me!!!
Me: Please just refund the $33.18 and everything is fine exept I will not do business with you further. If I would do this in my business I would not have any costumer any more.
Support: I understand that. I will refund all money except for the charges for those two items.
Me: what money do we talk about
Support: All charges except for 46.25
Me: What? I just want the $33.18. nothing more
Support: Okay, I will refund the amount to your account today.
Me: THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Fraud
I ordered a motorcycle tire online from JC Whitney. It was supposed to ship in 7-10 business days. It has now been well over 3 weeks, and in the north country up here, I am fast running out of riding days. Nothing on my E-mail explaining the delay. Should ordered from Dennis Kirk. To add insult to injury, within 3 days I received a catalog in the mail. Seems they were far more concerned with getting me to buy something else than delivering the product I already paid for. So why, why why would I ever, ever ever, order from these losers again?

Poor service!
For crying out loud, I have never encountered such despicable customer service. Imagine that, she doesn't'' know what she's talking about and she doesn't speak fluent english. I think she's an Indian because of the tone of her voice. And it seems like, she is lazy, groggy perhaps. I don't know if she's drunk or what, but I an definitely tell that there is something wrong with her. She said, they haven't sold me any car parts, but she confirmed that it O ordered from them. Weird isn't it? She and her colleagues are completely waste of time!!!

Ridiculous service!
Ridiculous!!! Just simply Ridiculous!! I have never ever been treated like this by anyone. Imagine, what will you people feel if you were shouted upon by the CSR of this company??? This is an outrage!!! I was just following up my order, when all of a sudden this young lady went berserk just because of the issues I'm bringing up!! I will never ever buy from this company again!! And I advise you all not to buy from JC Whitney if you don't want to be treated badly...

The worst service ever!
Well, the service that they gave me was highly unacceptable. After 2 years of purchasing from different websites, this is the worst ever. Terrible. Such terrible service. I didn't even got my order, from the fact that I already paid them. Its been two months now, and I'm still waiting. Their CSR is no different. They told me that it will arrive in a couple of days. But its months already. Where IS it???
