pay for dish maintenance
I've been a customer of Hughes.net for 3 years. Internet service has been going worse by the week. I can do email but cannot use Facebook at all. Websites keep loading and loading -- for hours. I called tech help yesterday (a toll call) and spoke to a woman in India. She said she ran some tests on my system and determined the problem was with my dish. Hughes.net is going to send a technician out -- and charge me $125! - to fix it. I'm FURIOUS. I haven't touched the dish. My neighbors are reporting problems with their Hughes.net service as well (super-slow speeds) but as they're moving, they're not dealing with it. Has their satellite changed position within the past 3 years? Has their dish equipment aged in 3 years? I feel I shouldn't have to be paying for this type of problem. I'm going to buy a laptop and go into town a few times a week for my important online work. And switch to simple dialup for my emails. Why keep a service that infuriates me?

Poor Service
Update on my last post. A tech was finally sent to resolve my issue, and keep in mind before he got there I had very slow service but was able to check email, after he arrived he sat at my desk like he might have been lost the tech arrived at 12:30 PM and left at 5 or 5:30 PM which is 5 hours in that five hours he took the siding loose from my house went out side replaced connectors and threw all of this in my yard never cleaned it up, and I was told the trees were blocking signal, next he had dig a hole and install a pole, then I had defective equipment part, and by this time I have no service and was expected to pay 125.00 service call fee. I take classed on line and made this clear when I called for service, well by the time he finished on Friday I still had no service and it was going to Monday before he come back, however I told them I did not want this guy back as he messed up the problem I went from slow service to no service and they said they would send someone else, well when Monday got here it was the same tech or no one.
Now they are sending me bill for 854.00, billing me for service and termination fee, from my previous post up until June or July they billed me for monthly service and the 125.00 service call.
Well as I see it someone rally needs to put these people in a reality check, because it appears they do whatever to customers without and consequences, us poor people who have no alternative for ISP are at their mercy so it seems.
Bottom line is no service, service man did not know what he was doing, along with trashing my yard and taking my siding off my house and did not replace it nor clean up his mess, oh yes I forgot to mention he stayed on the phone with the office more than he did any thing else.

I do not think it is right they do customers anyway they want too .

Cancellation of service
Hughes.net is I guess ok if that is the ONLY other option other than dial up that you have. Word of caution-If there is a possibility that DSL, cable or ANY other option may be available within the 2 years that you are in contract with company then wait. I did not mind paying the $400.00 disconnection fee because I would recoup my money in less than 6 months with the price difference with DSL. Hughes.net was quick to bill me for the disconnect fee but when I called them to find out when someone was going to pick up the modem and take the dish off the roof I was informed I was to mail them back. First off there is NO ONE to speak to in America. I spoke to 3 different people. 2 in billing and one in tech support. Do yourself a big favor and DO NOT call tech support!!! This man I talked to had no idea what I was asking. He asked me several times if I wanted the address to mail this back and apparently did not know anything about removing the "nob on the dish". When I asked if there was a number someone in America, I was told there is not a number for Hughes.net in America. I finally got someone on the phone that spoke and understood english. She told me that I was emailed a manual to return this equipment. I told her I never recieved this and could she resend it. She said she was not allowed to send out the manual. ?????? She did tell me how I could view it. I got tickled when I pulled up the manual and this saw...

poor and no service
I have been told I am exceeding my down load limit, and spending 5.00 on restore tokens, and for example last Thursday I was on the computer 1 hour and had not down loaded anything at all, I called the help desk to be told my AVG was causing this which I knew better as I download any updates manually between 2 AM and 7 PM, and this has been happening very often. They schedule a service call and I was told the warranty has run out on my equipment, however I pay 9.99 a month to lease the equipment, that was installed on 8/3/2009 not even a year. My service has been very slow for months, and now I was told I would be charges 125.00 service call for equipment I lease. I have made it clear that I am enrolled in school and attended my class on line, on May 14.2010 their technician arrived at 12.PM and I could at least get on the internet even if a low speed, and after 5 hours at trying to fix this I was told the trees blocking was the problem, it needed to be on a pole and last a part needed replacing and also was told he replaced every part he could and I had no service at all when he finished, I was told the technician lived 2 hours away and could not come til Monday, and I told them my class started on Friday the 14th. I called back and told the site office I did not want this guy back at my house and I received a call stating someone else would be there on Monday, Monday morning I was informed as such that is not going to happen, again I called and was told it would be 3 to 5 day before it could be fixed and again I made it clear that I paid for this class and was already behind because of this issue. Why should I have to pay a service call on equipment in which I pay 9.99 a month to lease I cant figure this one out, I was told the issue would be escalated to resolve the issue with another company, and yesterday the same company called and left a message after I told them I do not want this tech who spent 5 hours accomplishing nothing at all with my service, and left all his cut ends in my yard along with paper towels he had ask me for in addition to leaving the siding loose from my house. It is apparent the fact that I am missing class due to not being provided the service I am paying for while being charged service call fees and not even having service to get on the internet, I have paid numerous fees for restore tokens and since this service started the exceeding download limits have become very frequent. They are not providing the service I am paying for.
Today is Weds May 19, 2010 and I still have no service from these people .

service
Purchased new computer with operating system upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows7. Very, very slow service, worse than dial up. Have been on the phone with Hughes 4 times in 24 hours and have had to pay $5.00 for somw sort of token to address "exceeding download"problem. This is robbery as I am allowed one free token per month, and because of changes in op. system I have already used two tokens in 24 hours. Tokens are $5.00 apiece. I already pay a fortune for the monthly provider service and have for eight years. Have I any recourse?

Irresponsible and worst company I have ever dealt with
While doing a credit check on myself I noticed Hughnet had ran my credit. I called Hughesnet and found out that not only did they run my credit but there was an account in my name from an address I had previously owned. I explained that I never subscribed to there service but because I knew the address it showed that I was responsible. They send me notices and bills for equipment that was leased and the cancellation fee and the service charges. They told me that the only way to settle this was a police report claiming identity theft. After 5 phone calls and a dozen supervisors I got them to drop everything because work order when the equipment was dropped off was signed by someone with a different name than mine. I asked them over and over again to explain to me how an account was able to be created in my name and they did nothing to verify the information. They told me they don't use socials for the security of customers 9seemed to backfire here, huh!)

The customer service reps were rude, arrogant, unwilling to help beyond what their little script says, they talked down to me, questioned me endlessly about who I was and the account info and flat out called me a liar who was trying to get out of paying a bill. I encourage anyone who is or is thinking of dealing with Hughsnet to look elsewhere. Hughsnet is without a doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Misrepresentation, service sucks!
We called to find out if this would work for us. We were told this would be perfect for online game playing as well as emails and internet browsing. We ordered the express package to start and placed it under my husband's phone number. Two weeks ago, we called them and got the next level package (49.95) to up the speed since my game kept bumping me offline and the latency was horrid. Today, we could not even load the main page for google.com! I get told we went over our limit..LIMIT? Nobody told me of any limits. The gal on the phone says, "Oh, games are graphic intense and cause you to go over your limits, Satellite is not recommended for online game play". WHAT? then she says "Once you have gone over your limit you are bumped down to a dial-up type speed". WHAT???!!! You mean I'm paying $50/month for a dial-up when I could be getting that for 19 bucks or less through someone else? Then she told me that they weren't showing the upgrade on the package, and how that might have kept us from going over if they had known about it. OMFG!!! Come on people, two weeks and they can't let the folks know about an upgrade, when we were told it would be activated within about 5 min to 1 hour??!!! I am truly and completely disgusted. This is by far the worst scam I have ever gotten rooked into. We were flat out lied to, so that we would get their service, then it gets worse from there. HORRIBLE service, HORRIBLE people, HORRIBLE company.

I'm hoping their stocks dive and that the company goes belly up. This is the least of what they deserve. I'm cancelling service and getting local dial-up instead... at least I will get much better service from the people and better internet than even their $49.95 package can deliver. High speed? DO NOT believe that, it's about the same as regular dial-up. Don't even begin to consider using this company. It's better to not have internet than pay such a high price for getting just above no internet.

Any class action suit? Let me know... and I'm all in!

False Advertisement.
Hughes.Net certainly wins the black ribbon for worst ISP I've ever had the displeasure of using. Upon moving to the somewhat rural area of Darlington, I had to use satellite internet for lack of a better choice. The salesman on the phone outright lied, saying that satellite would be perfect for things such as online gaming and networking with multiple PCs.

To make matters worse, they impose the FAP (The air is thick with puns) which stands for Fair Access Policy, a polite way of saying you can only download 200mb before they throttle you down to speeds that are almost as bad if not worse than Dial-Up, and having to wait 24 hours for it to "restore." However, in the end, there's nothing you can do if you lack better options, and Hughes.Net no doubt thrives on this sort of monopoly over rural internet users.

Armstrong Cable and Verizon also provide painfully close to my home, literally a short walk up the road, this could warrant whole new complaints about these companies on how they seem to have simply abandoned the 1800 block of the street and skipped over to the next road for no apparent reason. Simply, I am in a Bermuda Triangle of Telecommunications.

Although it is partly my fault for not researching as well as I should have, the thought did not occur to me, and many others, that an ISP could impose such ludicrous limits.

poor service, no service, rip off
Hughes net sucks... They have on more than one occasion billed my credit card without permission, when I did not even owe them a bill. In April of 09 they billed me for a double payment almost 3 weeks befor my regular payment was even due. I filed a complaint with my bank, Hughes net now bills me double for every month. I have been hung up on by them, I have been told i am wrong for wanting them to fix the issues, they have repeatedly slowed my connection to less then dial up. They have shut me off, and made it impossible for me to usebut still expect me to pay them every month.. And when i ask them to dissconnect me they refuse to come get there stuff, and tell me they are investigating the issues...
Bull Crapl...
Do not ever buy Hughes net... they will rip you off...
