Slow Speed - Limit on usage
Although when we signed up for this service, it was the only high speed internet available, it is no longer high-speed.
We have been on Hughes Net for 18 months. Our usage has not changed in any discernible way. Yet, in the last 8 weeks, we continually are being moved to a worse than dial up speed because we are said to have "exceeded" our 200 MB download capacity allowed per day. This limit was never pointed out to us when we signed the two year contract. The enforcement of the limit is obviously something new, or we would have encountered the problem long ago. Our guess is that Hughes Net cannot afford to invest in additional capacity for all the customers it is attracting, and is now putting a band aid on the problem by limiting the amount of download its customers can accomplish. Eventually, they will be forced to invest more in their infrastructure, or go out of business. However, now they will collect all the $5.00 extra fees to restore service each time the "limit" is reached. We are already entitled to this by virtue of our $75.00 per month fees. Just recently, Hood Canal has come in and put cable in our area. When our two year service contract expires, we will immediately go to Cable. And hopefully, hear the last of the Calcutta Customer Service people!

TERRIBLE SERVICE
I ordered Hughes Net satellite internet the first week of August 2009. It was installed on August 15, 2009. After a few days, I noticed that the speed had dropped to even slower than dial-up. I called Customer Service and told them to disconnect the service because I was not paying twice as much money for slower service than I was getting with dial-up internet. They informed me that I was only allowed 200mB of downloads per month and if I went over that threshold, it would slow my computer down for that day, but would refresh every 24 hours and that I should be okay the next day as long as I didn't download anything else. So I agreed to keep the service for the rest of the 30-day period in which I would be able to cancel without obligation to contract. Just a few days after that, I was again experiencing problems and wasn't aware of anything else being downloaded, so I called Customer Service back to explain the problem. I was connected to someone who did not speak English very well at all--I was having trouble understanding anything she was saying. So I politely asked to be transferred to an American, but she refused. So then I asked to speak with her supervisor, but she refused this also. WHAT GOOD IS CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN THEY REFUSE TO HELP YOU!!! So I hung up very angry and frustrated and now I'm stuck in a 2-year contract with something that's not worth what I was paying for dial-up. I will tell EVERYONE I meet not to ever do business with Hughes Net because they are the worst excuse for a company that I have ever had the 'displeasure' of dealing with. This is one customer that will not be a repeat, nor a source of referral for the company. My first suggestion would be "SERVICE AFTER THE SALE"--you just can't wrong with that. My next suggestion to them would be to hire people that can at least speak English, even if they are not from U.S. I could go on and on, but I think I have made my point very clear.

Fighting for No Service
It sounds like I'm not the only one that has had serious problems with HughesNet. I signed up for their service the end of December, 2008. I also had problems with downloading.
My service was supposed to be buying the equipment for $20/month on top of my regular bill. On January 16, 2009, they cut off my service because they said I owed them $400 for the equipment plus the monthly fee. I called them, and they said I had to fax them a copy of the agreement, which I never got a copy of. The only thing I have is the copy of the pole installation - which cost me $135.
I have been fighting with them ever since to try to get shipping labels to send the equipment back to them. And now they've turned me in to a collection agency.
And the fight rages on . . .
I tell everyone I know not to get HughesNet. Their internet service is poor, and they're customer service is the worst I've ever seen. And I've been in other countries that aren't trained for customer service like we are in America - and the untrained were better than what I've had with HughesNet.
I hope my registering this complaint will help to save someone the struggle I'm going through with them.

fair access policy
hughes net is by far the worst possible internet service below is a few reasons to say no to hughes nets horrible service
1.over double priced some what tripled compared to some high speed internet
2.limited amount of use witch can be used quickly
3.support is freakin horrible cant understand them all foreign people i guess plus they know nothing about the damn system they sell i knew more then the people supposedly tryin to help with stupid questions that had nothing to do with the problem
4.no online game playing on xbox or ps3 at all
5.no video streaming cant even use netflix streaming video uses bandwith quicky
6.once you hit the very limited amount you are slowed down to worser then dial up speeds my dial is actualy better when its like that
7. 2 year contract with horrible prices for equipment
the are plenty more problems and bad things about hughesnet id just have to think about them bottomline if you have a choice avoid them they will brutally rape you big time the only reason i have it is untill cingular 3g or my phone company puts dsl here its not to far away cant wait till the day so i can call hughesnet and tell them to stick there crumby a** service up there a** the main trigger is the fair access policy garbage i mean dont get me wrong there high prices are horrible but i believe it would help lot even if it was unlimited i mean if there gonna rip you off on prices atleast be unlmited and i wouldn feel so raped
