I work at Global Tel Link
I would like to start off by saying that i was very surprised to see this complaint site. As much as i see where people are coming from, you must first remember that Global Tel Link is providing you with service to talk to an inmate. If there were not companies like this, you would need to write letters. The reason that your accounts are set up are because your phone companies will not let you get calls from corr. facilities. So on GTL'S part id like to say your welcome. Secondly, about cards being declined, that is 90% of the time because you have about 10 different addresses and you forget which one you have registered. OR you have a prepaid card, which aren't accepted. Why? Because so many GTL customers call with their prepaid child support cards and try to spend their food money on phone calls. Before you sit at home and complain&blog, how about you rethink things and be appreciative for the service that you would be miserable without.

Check cashing
I dont understand how the DOC can continue to use this company with all of the complaints lodged against it, I had my phone blocked by GTL for a bill they said wasnt paid, I sent the check in April for that bill, they cashed the check through there bank in april and to date they are still showing I still owe the money I have spoken to seven different people trying to resolve my problem with no results, not to mention the hours I have spent on the phone just trying to speak to someone is the DOC paying any attention to the problems people are having with this company or they just dont care

scam
i went to this site thinking it was a fast easy way to get a account set up for inmate to call and i got scam out my money. when i called the 1 800 # no one called me back and i will never use this site again

Scam billing!
Company charged me twice when i only made one transaction. The first time i called in the automated system said my card was declined when there was more than enough money in the bank then i called again and it said approved well it charged me twice then when i called cust svce about it the said they couldn't see where i was charged twice and said they were holding my funds when in actuality the money was drafted from my account. The second time i was charged out of the blue for a payment that i didn't even make then they tell you to fax over bank statement to a "somebody"that you cant even call.

Customer Service
I was not surprised to see all the complaints about Global Tel Link but I was surprised to see that many people have stories much worse than mine. I have been dealing with the company for two years and it seems absurd that I have had to go through the horrible things they have put me through just so I can pay them outrageous amounts of money for this kind of treatment. It seems as though they don't care how much business they lose which leads me to believe that they have so much they can afford to lose it. They have us right where they want us. Begging for them to allow us the privilege of being their customer so that we may receive calls from our loved ones.
When I was searching for information about the company so that I could file a complaint I found advertisement for the service geared toward the correctional facilities. It seems that they are concerned with monitoring phone calls to collect evidence against inmates and also ways to make money for the facilities who allow their phones to be placed in those facilities. This must be why we have to pay such a high price to speak to our loved ones. So that not only Global Tel Link but also the correctional facilities can make money from the hard times of others. I'm sure if my loved one was making phones calls that divulged evidence that would be useful to the prosecuters my phone calls would never be blocked or cut short.

CORRECTIONS BILLING
I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH MCI/GLOBALT TEL LINK FOR AWHILE. THEY DO HAVE VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. MOST OF THE EMPLOYEES THAT ANSWER THE PHONE ARE NOT JOB ORIENTED NR ENGLISH SPEAKINGH. THEY GET ATTITUDES WHEN YOU ARE THE PURCHASER OF THEIR PRODUCT. I WOULD EXPECT MORE HOSPITABLE PERSONS.
THERE ARE SO MANY ERRORS COMPLETED BY THEM. I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR 2 YEARS NOW TO GET MY PHONE SERVICE CHANGED OVER INTO MY NAME. INSTEAD THEY MAKE ME GO TO WESTERN UNION TO PAY A BILL IN SOMEONE ELSE'S NAME.
THEIR PRICES ARE TOO HIGH FOR THE 15 MIN YOU RECEIVED FROM THE FACILITIES. THEY CHARGE YOU THE REGULAR RATE EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT TALKED YOUR FULL 15MIN AND THE PHONE HUNG UP SOME SORT OF WAY ON THEIR END. THEY DON'T REALLY WANT TO HEAR IT. PLEASE DON'T TRY TO ESCALATE IT BECASUE THEY WILL HANG UP ON YOU PURPOSELY OR PASS THE PHONE TO SOMEONE WHOM IS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO THAT PERSON AND IS NOT A SUPERVISOR.
SOMEONE REALLY NEEDS TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS COMPANY.

poor service
When the department of corrections decided to move to Global Tel link it was poor decision. Since my boyfriend calls me daily I am on a high volume call status and have to pre-pay my calls. There is no warning as to when the account is getting low. I pay over $300 a month. There is no discount and it is considerably higher cost. Global Tel Link utilizes call centers overseas so the service quality is very poor. I am put on hold for 15 minutes at a time even after using the automated call back system the holds continue. Last night even though I have an $70 balance on my account my boyfriend was told I have a block on my phone. His relatives had to call me to tell me. I called Global Tel lInk and they told me there is not a block and that I have a balance on my account. I called again after another relative called and was told by a supervisor someone will get back to me in 24-48 hours. This is unacceptable. I would never choose this company as a provider and the DOC should discontine the relationship with this phone company. I have been double billed for calls etc.

blocking of personal phone
Global Tel Link has blocked my phone, so that my son cannot call home. They first told me that my account had to be paid and now they are telling me that I have to open an account with them so that they can unblock my phone. They are in the States and I am in Canada. I asked them to send me a letter in writing as to why they will not unblock my phone. They have put me on hold and it has now been over an hour. I have got my own telephone company in Canada. I don't need Global Tel Link. If something happens to my son and he cannot get through to me, will Global Tel Link be held responsible? It seems everything comes down to the old mighty dollar.
I am really discussed with what we the people have to put up with from big companies.
