rude treatment
On Sunday Feb. 15, 2010 went into the store . I only saw 2 employees, one checker and one person stocking shekves. The 1 checking was doind her best to keep up with checking people out. There was about 10 people in line when she called for help, the lady finally came up after about 5 minutes and had a attitude when she opened up. She never even greated anyone !!! No name tag she was about 38-40 stocky bulit and brown hair. I went to her and had about $25.00 worth of items, there was a sign saying please don't give us 50's or 100's, so I then said I am sorry but I don't have quite enough so I will have to give you a 50, she then jerked the 50 out of my hand and never even acknowledged me in any way except to push my change in my hand . I then told her she was in the wrong business and if she didn't like her job she shouldn't take it out on customers. I will let you know I will not shop Family Dollar again and plan to pass the word about that store!!! Word of mouth is by far the best way to let people know about stores Dollar General has never treated me this way at any of their stores !!! I worked retail for over 3o years and know how to treat people maybe you all should have secret shoppers to find out how your cutomers are treated. I have read other complaints about your stores so I know I'm not the only one complaining.
Thank you for listenting to me.

The manager at family dollar is a homewrecker. She makes it a habit to pick up on married men while she is working, she has had affairs while she was on the clock, company time. She has caused alot of heartache around this town and numerous people wont shop up there because they dont want her picking up on their men.I wont shop up there and i spent alot of money up there at one time. She is a nasty woman and a bad manager she has had alot of employies that have quit because she is hateful.

defamation of character
i worked for this company almost a year ago. i thought that my manager was and fair distant person until i realized that she was racist. 1st she wrote me up for something that wasn't true she then realized that she had lied and told me to tear them up but i didn't. this was for friday then when i returned to work on and wednesday i was later told after unloading the truck after my store mgr, the other asst from my store, and an store mgr in training had left the offices discussing this missing deposit then they came and got me ( mind you i was only employed with the company 3mos). then while in the office and deposit that was mine came up missing and the mgr had scratched out where the other asst mgr name because she signed off verifing this deposit. make and long story short my mgr told people that it was in my car. how will she have know that. the police wanted to go further but because they said i was set up but the dm stop the case. but before they told the police that they found the money they had gave the asst who had the money her job back.

Racism/Discrimination
I visited the Family Dollar store approximately 7:30p.m. on December 15, 2009. My five year old son and I entered the store and my son said, Momma can I get a soda(which was in the cooler).I told him yes. Terri the manager who was working at the cash register and who is also the store manager told him that he could not get a soda until he paid for it. She did not communicate that with me, she told my five year old son. I asked her why couldn't he get a soda and she told me that it was the policy that they had to pay for the soda first. I informed her that there was no where on the soda refrigerator that indicated you could not get the soda until you paid for it. She insisted that I had to pay for it first. She said that he could not drink the soda. I asked her what made her think that he was going to drink the soda because he only asked if he could get one. She was very degrading to my son. I told her that my children are not allowed to open things before they pay for it. I don't understand why she felt that my African American son was going to open the soda. I asked her for the number to the Family Dollar Corporate office and she gave me the District manager's number instead of the corporate office and she told me that she was not allowed to give the number out. The number that she gave me was a cell phone number 1-252-432-7437, when I called it no one answered. I had to retrieve the corporate office via internet. This was a very degrading experience for my family and I. She would not give me the number to the corporate office, instead she gave the number to someone else.
The damage that resulted was that my son had to witness the racism and discrimination against him. What happened to him was a typical case of racism. There was not a sign posted that stated that you have to pay for the soda before you get it out of the cooler. She did not give him an opportunity to get to the drink out of the cooler. This should not happen to anyone, especially a child. Policies should be posted and apply to all, regardless of race.

bad service and racism
My boyfriend, my daughter, my grandbaby, (who is 2 years old), and myself went to this store to buy a dress for my grandbaby. My boybriend and I bought some items which included 4 breakable cups. Upon checking out I noticed the cashier putting the cups in the bag a little roughly. I commented to my daughter that she should wrap those because they could break. My daughter asked the cashier if she had some paper or something to wrap the cups in. She said no and handed my boyfriend some plastic bags and stated "you can wrap them yourself". I commented that that was not my job and that I didn't get paid to do that. As my boyfriend and I walked away I said to my boyfriend in Spanish that that was their job and that she should've wrapped those cups for us. I then hear my daughter say to the cashier to call the manager. When I asked my daughter what was going on she said that when I started speaking in Spanish the cashier had rolled her eyes so she had asked her if there was a reason for rolling her eyes like that at her mother. The cashier then said to her "they're my eyes and I can roll them if I want to" which at this point my daughter asked for the manager. The cashier told her she could call the manager herself. By this time I am standing in front of the register because the cashier is yelling all this to my daughter. I told her she needed to calm down. At this point the cashier began coming around and out of her register yelling "You think I give a f*** about this job!" All the while walking in a threating manner towards us. She came right up to us and was yelling at us saying "she started talking in their language and I know they were talking about me!" The manager came over and asked what was going on. My daughter began to explain to the manager what had happened, the cashier returned to her spot and grabbed the dress and items my daughter was going to buy and told the manager you handle them! I told the manager to check us out herself but she was calling her superior on the phone. All this time the cashier is yelling about how "she was speaking in their language" I told her it was a conversation between me and my boyfriend and none of her business. I was pretty irate by this point. She proceeded to tell me "you want to go outside, you want to go outside" meaning let's go outside and fight. That's how I perceived this. I told my daughter to get the baby because I really thought this cashier was going to come over the register and hit me. My daughter is on the phone calling the police because we felt threatened by this cashier. She yelled at her manager "who you calling" and snatched the phone from her and proceeded to tell the other person on the phone that we were yelling at her. Needless to say police came, nothing was done because they happened to be "buddy buddy" with this person. We were told they could do nothing because she had not touched us. And that there were 4 people in the store that said it did not happen the way we said, even though a customer came up to the police and told them the cashier had come around and was threatning us. I am very disgusted by her behavior. My grandbaby was standing next to me and my daughter. If this person had hit one of us or tried to fight us my grandbaby could have been hurt! What kind of training do they give these people. Be rude, beat people up and insult their race if you don't want to do your job! I am a constant shopper at this particular store because it is close to where I live but I will go OUT of my way to go somewhere else and shop at Family Dollar's competition before I allow anyone to treat me that way. Family Dollar you need to give your employees some serious training on how to treat your customers. If I don't buy you go out of business!

injury
I was injuried on the job and the manager and District manager both said they were not concerned because it was not workmans comp. However it was and I got to the point that I could not stand for extended periods of time not lift heavy objects. I started going to the doctor in June and the manager Bonnie McCormick was well aware of all the doctors orders as I presented each one to her. She refused to accept the doctors orders for 2 weeks off and in order to keep my job i worked a few less hours but my condition worsened. Again the doctor requested time off and again it was denied. This has been a real stressful ordeal with this manager and the dm is not better he sides with her not matter what. On Sept. 26th i talked with Bonnie and ask her to take me off the schedule for a few days. On Monday Sept. 28th I went in to talk with her about me cashiering in which she had a job position open and she said she couldn't use me and terminated me.

Bad management
I too worked at a Family Dollar Store, and though it was a fun place to work. But the harassment from the District Manager (Tim)was unbearable. Our store was always kept clean and neat for the customers. We did everything we were suppose to do(the way he wanted us to do it). Every time he came he did nothing but *** and complain, asked who told you to do that (of course he did, but denied it). So as a result our store got low rating from him all the time, but the messy store across town always got high ratings. My co-workers were intimidated by him, we complained but got nowhere. They do treat the employees terrible they expect you to work hard for low pay, Especially the Managers they want them to put in a 80+ hour week.

employment
I have worked for family dollar for only 4 months and it is hell. My job title is a cashier however you have to do everything in the store at the same time. If you've ever been in a family dollar you know how busy it is and you're expected to run the register alone, stock the shelves, clean up, you're usually given about 6 things to do "inbetween customers" when there is no in between because its so busy . you dont get a break at all no matter how many hours you work. I was even told by the manager that she can't give breaks because it will take time away from what she has to do. The district managers harass the store mangers forcing all this pressure on them to get all these things done when its impossible with only two people in the store working. I never walked into any other store and saw only 2 people working. One person in family dollar has to do the jobs of 3 people for minimum wage this is modern day slavery .

Awful, awful, awful
On June I walked into Family Dollar with a camcorder black bag with the camcarder in it on my belt around my weist. My sister/her son with autism and my cousin all together. As we walked out we notice a worker standing near the doorway? we left the store, my sister which is law enforcement was the driver. We were about a block and a half when the cops pulled us over? They claim I stole something. The cops serched me and my cousin. My sister was so upset she went back to the store escorted by the cops and returned all what she brought. When the cops asked the tall white lady what I stole she said "he have a bolg under his shirt"?? How STUPID did she look. She need to be fired just for looking and being STUPIT and wasting the cops time. All she had to do was ask. How many other people will this happen to.
