Do not Buy Their Batteries
Do not buy Family Dollar brand batteries they are always dead with no battery life when you purchase them! I go to the Dollar Tree and the batteries are always fresh but Family Dollar batteries never are!

I called Family Dollar customer service number and all I get is the runaround when I call the store manager they act like they don't even have the authority to give you back $1.07. Talk about horrible customer service. I don't intend on wasting any of my money with them again. I will never purchase any batteries out of their store not ever duracell because they keep their batteries on the shelf way pass their shelf life just to rip you off.

Termination without reason
I worked at family dollar for 8 years as a store manager. I no longer work for this company. I'm glad I'm out. I just recently found this web site. I am not surprised at what i read. Allot of what I've read I can relate to . Just wanted to let people know this is not a good company to work for, if you are considering this company for employment, please don't. they will use you and discard you. This is the worst company I have ever worked for. no future in this company.

Mistreatment of employees
I am a current Assistant Manager of Family Dollar so I can not go into too many identifying specifics. My advise to all other slaves from this shithole of a company is to NOT post anything on a facebook site as it is looked at by loss prevention and considered slander I have found out and actually get this...ORDERED in a company wide email that we are NOT allowed to put anything up about Family Dollar on facebook, yet the upper management gossip...yes...GOSSIP about other employees in front of other employees. Their policy is "keep a lid on the abuse". Kind of like an abusive relationship mentality. A store manager makes $650 per week salary and the perks the DM's get are insanely high yet they feel it is fine to cut your hours to the minimum the can. In my case itis 32 hours due to me being full time, pay you barely above minimum wage with NO BREAKS even if you pull a double! Most any employee could sue the piss out of this hell hole, but even a slight complaint to the supposive "anonymous alert line" to corporate does nothing except get you ganged up on by upper management since they call your DM's and tell them. It is modern day slavery and they are close to getting into another class action suit against them if they continue. I have panic attacks set on prior to my shift, my manager is racist and gangs up on me (no I'm not black..SHE is) along with every employee she hires, when I see cash handling issues...they point at me when I bring it up. If you don't cover anyone elses ass your done period! Never cover up for cash issues EVER!!! If you have any issues they have pre written script responses that they all use... "welcome to family dollar", there are plenty others to work here and you can be replaced in 5 minutes, oh and my favorite...you better put out a full Uboat of shit every hour per policy or find a new job" 100% fronting...even on truck day and busy nights? Fuck that! Customers tear up the store and yes...not having the store look perfect with 2 yes 2 employees on the clock. Running register, doing returns, dealing with drunk assed crazy customers, putting out stock, and I do all of that even front the damn store within an hour and all I get is disected! You WILL NOT be fired from one of the sweat shops unless yes..you are caught stealing. I costs them too much to train newbies I am told. All about they're money period!!! Do you know they do not care if customers steal? The survelance cameras are set on employees only! Yes...it is needed due to high internal theft, BUT the intenal theft is mostly of bank deposits by criminals! They do NOT run background checks on employees as they say they do until you are put into a management position, so they set themselves up to be robbed by them or worse yet work with felons and not know it? WTF????
FACTS!!! Their money is insured! Our stores get robbed often and in the suburbs by current or ex employees. To make up for their looses..they cut and take away benefits...aka rasies from the good workers. I was told by my DM that I could allow a chasier..any cashier to do a bank deposit, but they must go on the clock and go into the bank and bring back the verification deopist slips? Hello you stupid ASS! What good is that if they take off with it?? By the way...if you ger robbed they SAY do not resist..give them anything they ask for etc...BUT they fire the employees on duty if they are robbed for get this shit..."failure to prtect company assets" so you better get off your ass and chase the criminal yourself and get ALL of the money or items back or you're FIRED!!! Oh...by the way just FYI...Howard Levine CEO of Family Dollar with a high school education ran this company to the ground after receiving this shithole after the death of his "daddy war bucks" made a whopping 5.6 million dollar personal salary last year! FUCK him and FUCK family dollar! I'm sure he had a wonderful Easter as well as all of his salaried workers! I so cannot wait until the corporate take over and he is bought out. I'm sure with enough money to last him 2 lifetimes! I am looking every day I am off for another job. If you have any other option...DO NOT work at Family Dollar or Dollar General. Both are competitors and both treat their employees the same. It is kind of like getting used to the person who kidnapped you and abuses you syndrome...you do what you can to get on the good side so they'll not brawl beat you and torment you more! The stress level is at heart attack levels there! If you have kids? plan on not seeing them, if you have a bf/gf plan on being dumped due to shitty schedules, if your married? God help you. You'll end up divorced! I feel we all need to ban together and take on this corporate bully once again. This is not a 3rd world country!!! Mr. Levine is a pathetic excuse of a CEO and only knows how to spend money period and does NOT give two shits about the employees safety, lives or well being. I dread the day I took this position. I hired in as an Assistant Manager thinking I would better my life. Now I'm a nervous wreck, barely eat, am on nerve medication and have frequent headaches due to all of the tasks and threats of write ups, termination etc... that we ALL get over petty shit, have little to no relationship with my son at home still due to not making any of his speacial occassions, being out at my scheduled time off to get him from school, having to blow off special plans with him to work, etc... dating? HA..what is that? Unless you date a coworker who understands the flip flop schedules, but that is forbidden (plus who really wants to date someone as nuts as you've became? HA). All I can say about this company is this...I had a 98 hour 2 week pay check (18 hours overtime at time and a half and gave me a whopping $767 take home pay! Well below paverty level!! I don't take their insurance which is a joke as well... $120 per month. It covers 4 doctor visits per year, $100 per day if hospitalized, $200 per day if in intensive care (HA!) an aspirin? Who in the hell will pay the other $2000 per day. Oh...just pull the plug! When the ecomony picks back up this company will have a massive "walk out"!!! So I leave my ending statement as... FUCK YOU FAMILY DOLLAR! You should change your name to "Howie Dollar"!!!

Surveillance Cameras
After I shopped at the Family Dollar Store on Glenwood Avenue in Dalton, Ga., I payed for my things at the register and walked out to my car, realizing that I left my money laying at the register. I went back in to get it and it was gone. I asked the manager to look at the surveillance camera. She said they do not have surveillance cameras anywhere in the store. I saw cameras on the ceilings and questioned her about them. She said they are fake. They don't work. I talked with a police officer and could not file a report without any evidence of the money being taken. And how about the safety of their employees? The "fake" cameras make absolutely no sense and if there were a crime committed at their stores, there would be no way to note it.

Lack of concern for employees
I have submitted 2 complaints to my DM and RVP regarding how the store manager treats her employees and all the policy infractions with absolutely no feed back. I have even filed a grievance with corporate and received no response or follow up. This manager should be let go or forced into retirement. I would like to start a class action lawsuit against Family Dollar for allowing these issues to continue forcing us to work in a hostile work environment. Corporate has policies to follow regarding such alligations, and if we do not follow policy we are subject to termination. So why not them, right? If there is anyone out there who would be willing to stand up for your right to be treated as a human being and respected for the service you provide let me know on this board and I will give you a protected email to contact me. Believe me when I say this is not a trick, I am in fact an assistant manager myself and am seriously f***ing sick of being spit on by managers and corporate like we are not worthy of respect.

closing time and not letting one customer in and before they left they let 3 in after closing hours
My husband went to the Family Dollar Store in Clarksville Texas on 4-23-11 around 8:55 p.m. to make a few purchases and the cashier which was African American told him he could not enter the because store was closing which was fine but before he left a car that contained 3 African American girls pulled up and they WERE allowed to enter the store. My complaint is that if my husband WAS NOT ALLOWED TO GO IN AND BuY A FEW ITEMS why was the other people allowed in the store if the store was CLOSING!! It is not right for them to let others in the store at closing time and them not to let my husband go in at 8:55 to buy a few items. The Family Dollar Store has lost ALL of my families business and not just the one in Clarksville Texas all of them. And that is at least one of us was in that store making purchases every day.

Rude Manager
I returned 2 sets of blinds that were the wrong size. I wanted to exchange them but they did not have the right size so I was getting a refund. The Lady helping me was doing just fine and then the Manager comes up and said a part was missing out of the opened box. I told her I did not take all of the parts out because once I found it was the wrong size there was no need to open the rest. She insisted the piece you connect to the wall was not in there. My Granddaughter and I both told her they were in the other end of the box because you could hear the screws rattle. She would not allow us to open the other end of the box. Her attitute kept getting worse until I lost my temper also and told her that I was doing just fine with the Lady that was helping me and she needed to go back to her own customers. She kept on and on with me. I am disabled and on oxygen. She told the customer she was helping that I needed to huff on that oxygen harder. I cannot believe that your store would employ someone like her. We came home and the part was in the other end of the box just as we told her. They told me the register was messed up and would not print a receipt so they wrote some kind of junk on a piece of paper and gave to me. She was rude, cussed and made a fool of herself in front of me and about 10 other customers in the store that said they could not belive how she acted. I would like for someone to contact me via email. I, my Family and Friends have shopped in your stores for many years but you better believe if this is not handled properly none of us will ever be step foot in your stores again. I have never in 60 years been treated like that in a store of any kind. Now what I am I suppose to do with these blinds that I have no legitimate receipt to?

Racial Slang
I was in a very heated coaching encounter with my Regional Vice President and he became very angry while we were talking due to me not showing any expression. The RVP called me a "Girl" uncandidately before he knew it and was shocked at himself when I corrected him. I walked away to prevent from losing my temper. I filed a compliant with HR and they stated that my walking off was considered my resignation. I called around to speak with the HR personal, and other company members and no one answered their phones; therefore I asked the RVP where did I need to leave my car and laptop since no one would help. The company considered this a resignation and forced me to resign. I guess with Family Dollar inappropiate conduct is acceptable if you are a white male speaking down to a black female. This company needs to sell to the Trian Group and allow someone to get it right. I need a an attorney who knows FD and fast. [email protected]

Fall
I was shopping one day at Family Dollar and then I fell and got hurt. The workers had left the floor wet and I slipped and fell. My knee, back, and hips were hurting very much. So I decided to file this complaint. By the way, Irvington, New Jersey was where this accident took place in.
