Dishonest Practice
I used to belong to emusic, but since the selection is really bad I quit using them. I have not been on the site since 2007 I believe and then last week I received an email to get 75 free songs. I was hoping their catalog might be better so I tried a sample song from the link they sent. Of course the selection was still the same, very limited, so I got off the site. On Tuesday May 26 I received and email thanking me for my rejoining. I immediately called their 'customer service' line after cancelling online. The person I spoke with was not professional in her position as far as giving her name, getting me to the supervisor, then hung up on me twice. I would think in this day and age that a company would be concerned about their reputation but this is not the case here. I called my bank and was assured they will not allow the charge to go through. I was able to catch the transaction before it was charged. I would hope, in the future, this company would be more honest in their business practices. In the meantime, (((Redacted))) is a wonderful thing!

Miserable Failure
I was concerned about potentially being re-billed and logged into my eMusic account, which I had placed on hold 2 months prior. There right in front of me was a large button to REACTIVATE MY ACCOUNT. On the left side are Account Options, and under Account Information are text links for: Email Address/Password; Billing Address; Payment Preferences; and, Payment History. However, if the account is on hold, none of these buttons work. So, if a customer needs to refer to any of this information or make modifications other than, or prior to, clicking REACTIVATE, it's impossible.
If you want to reach a live person by telephone, that number is hidden ONLY under the Billing Questions area of Customer Service. If you moved and need to change your address, cancelled out your credit card or wanted to change the billing card, access your billing history to find out which card you used for billing, or anything to do with your account, eMusic doesn't allow this. Because the online customer service form and phone number requires the last 4 or 8-digits of your applicable credit card, if you don't know which card, or if you selected PayPal as a payment option, eMusic cannot help you and will not proceed with either of these processes. I used this analogy with the eMusic customer service rep I spoke with, I have an answer I need right away, but you have to also guess the question! I mean, how can I provide the last 4 or 8-digits of my billing card, if I'm using Paypal?
How can I change my billing info & address, access any billing history, send an Email to customer service or provide my info by phone without REACTIVATE? Answer, you cannot. It's this simple, no one thought this out at eMusic. It has way too many problems to survive, long term, without seriously overhauling everything to do with how customers can access and modify their account information. I just hope for the CEO's sake that the Board of Directors or shareholders don't find out about this.

tricks and scams
If you are reading this you have obviously been ripped of by this company, and if you are like me you are amazed with all of the tricks used against other people like yourself, so what can you do besides posting the way in which they got your money for nothing? First of all you need to be proactive. Contact your card company and/or paypal and stop all payments to emusic. You will find them very helpful and it is the only way you can safely stop payments, since one of emusics tricks is to stop one account only to start a new one simply because you contacted them.Contact the BBB in New York and file a complaint. They are slow to respond, but long term it may be the best way to alert the companys who embed emusic's service with their products about the true nature of this company. Contact the company directly if emusics advertisement came with their product. They will be an effective advocate if they receive enough complaints. Another avenue to pursue would be the attorney general's office in New York. Any of these actions involve a little more work on our part, but will be be more effective than posting complaints that most people will see only after they have they have been ripped off. Remember to keep your complaint professional and business like, and include any and all current information you have on them [one of their tricks is to keep shifting contact information, and you have no account number in case you didn't notice].Some people have said they were mocked when posting a complaint, but this is most likely coming from employees of emusic, this will not happen to you when you contact any of the above. I was able to recover some of the money emusic took from me, and I have an open case with the BBB. Remember a couple of points, none of us were looking to get something for nothing, and a reputable company does not prey upon people who come to them with honest and ordinary expectations of what to expect in dealing with what looks to be a legitimate business. Although I am surprised that a class action suit hasn't been brought against emusic, that doesn't mean we can't take action on our own. If you have had success in dealing with them, or have ideas on how to, please post it, especially if it is something that can be done to protect people before they send emusic their account information. LETS ALL WORK TOGETHER AND TAKE THIS TO NEXT LEVEL BY TAKING PROACTIVE ACTION! I don't think I have the savvy to lead the charge on the internet, but you are out there reading this right now and other people need your help.

took money 30.99
I opened a free trail with the purchase of my mp3 player and thought that emusic might offer some help with my downloading. I am new to it and decided to try it out, but I couldn't find any artist I wanted or how to get files to download onto my computer to download into my mp3 player. After searching for something else I completely forgot about the trial until my husband sold something on his ebay account and it was automatically taken out for emusic. Since they're not open on the weekend I can't even contact them and am extremely angry since I didn't even use their awful services. I think it's completely unfair that I have to pay for something I never use just because they may say I have access to it. It's a lousy music site and shouldn't take money from anyone without actual approval after a free trail to continue their so called services. I think I should be refunded my money and am afraid of putting any more money into my husbands pay pal account because they will just take it.

Monthly fee even when not downloading
I subscribed to emusic in June 2009 for my husband. At first he was downloading quite a bit but then he forgot about it. I didn't think it mattered because I thought the fees I was paying would accrue. They did not. emusic just takes your money and doesn't give you any credits. This setup is NOT made clear when you sign up.
The setup is a complete rip off. On top of that their customer serice is a joke. I contacted customer service and after all the money they took from me they offered one free month.
They should be very clear up front if they are going to take your money even if you don't donwload anything.

fraudulent charges
i sent them an email[from gmail] cancelling an account with the date and email address[yahoo]that i had used.i got confirmation and thought everything was ok when i didn't see a charge that month. when i saw they were charging me again their response was they cancelled the gmail account[which never existed].very sneaky and an outright fraud. this company is making its real money from all these small mistakes they create from the business model they have. easy to set up, looks like a good deal from a legitimat company.try cancelling or contacting them and you will have a problem.

bait and switch
On 22 October emusic sold me a contract for 2 albums/month for a year for $99. They
changed it on 18 November to one that only lets me buy 1 album/month. This is Bait and switch.
They refuse to refund the unused portion of the contract. Instead they offered a one-time bonus of $12.50 which would allow me to buy 4 albums this month and 1/month in the remaining 10 months for a total of 14 albums instead of the 22 they owe me. AVOID EMUSIC. I wish I had seen the many complaints online before I joined,

overcharged/no product received
I was offered 380 free downloads when i purchased my netgear wireless router. It was enclosed in the packet. I attempted to download the music and was unsuccessful. My credit card has been charged on 12/3 11.99, 11.00.10.00.5.oo, 4, oo and now there are pending charges for the 5th. It gives instructions t download in itunes as this is my sole media player. The downloads never were successful and I have no idea what the additional charges are for. I want to cancel any future billing and services and either obtain instruction on download or obtain credit for product that was not downloaded.

Charges unauthorised
an honest account of a dishonest service/company:
1) customer thinks: oh that would be nice, a 'free trial'..
2) eMusic Promotes the concept of 'free' with no strings and 30 'free' downloads..
3) Customer signs up..
4) customer searches and doesn't find much of what they are looking for but tries to think positively about emusic - 'could I pay for this, could I use it - is it worth it'?..
5) customer downloads the Download manager and downloads some tracks - customer experiences problems as many tracks don't download properly..
6) customer allows emusic through firewall..
7) 30 'free' tracks download successfully - as emusic advertises..
8) customer feels that the service isn't worth 24.99 GBP per month as many tracks wanted are not available..
9) customer cancels trial within 7-day-trial - as advertised
10) EMUSIC CHARGE CUSTOMER ANYWAY!..
11) customer not happy and emails emusic (tries to phone but cannot find a phone number)..
12) customer runs a goodle search for 'emusic charge' and discovers that many people have this problem with emusic..
13) customer waits 5-6 days for emusic to respond to email..
14) customer contacts their credit card company but they cannot act because emusic deducted money within 14 day period..
15) Customer really unhappy and cannot contact emusic to discuss ILLEGAL deduction of moneys..
EMUSIC: I AM NOT HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE BEHAVED ILLEGALLY AND DEDUCTED MONEYS FROM MY ACCOUNT AND ARE UNWILLING TO DISCUSS OR REFUND IT. I FIND YOU CORRUPT AND A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF A BUSINESS THAT SHOULD NOT BE IN OPERATION - YOU THEVES! LET ME CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION AND GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!
