Our Move
Like Ashley, we also had a great experience with Destination Movers. We have to admit we were really concerned at the beginning because we thought we were getting a fair price. Luckily, Destination Movers put that fear to rest after they loaded our stuff. They came back with a revised estimate that was 4 times the orginal quote! What a relief. We were really hoping to spend a lot more than we could afford.
On top of the that, there was the customer service. How refreshing it was to be put on hold intermittently by 10 different managers that didn't care about us. And funny, too. Max told us they weren't -- get this -- a pizza delivery! Ha! What a sense of humor!
That's not all. Usually moving companies show up on a day and time that is convenient for the customer. How annoying. But Destination Movers once again demonstrated how they were a cut above the competition. They showed up at 2 a.m, weeks after we moved into our new empty house. What a nice surprise!
But best of all, our stuff. Even though most of it was valuable and irreplaceable, we 've been trying to destroy or lose it for years. No luck. That is, until Destination Movers arrived. How delighted we were to find our wedding albums missing and our furniture shattered to pieces. These guys were really on top of their game.
Our only disappointment was that we didn't sign up for the hostage load special. We've read rave reviews about this service all over the internet. Oh well, next time I guess.
Thanks, Destination Movers!

MY MOVE
Hello my name is Ashley and I recently hire Destination Movers to help me with my move from Macon, Georgia to Houston, Texas. After reading some of the comments from other customers, I feel obligated to say that my family and I had a good experience with them. I contacted them because my sister in law also moved with them and had no problems. Im pretty sure that not everybody takes a time to write a good review, but I will.

Extortion and Load Hostaging
Attention everyone that has had any problems with Destination Movers- please contact me immediately. A group of us are gathering to make sure they stop their illegal practices.
We CAN do something about this. They are violating major federal and state laws and regulations housed under Department of Transportation, Consumer Protection, FBI, etc...the list goes on. They can lose their DOT license for engaging in "load hostaging" which is, in fact, a mover providing an estimate than refusing delivery unless twice, three, four times as much is paid in cash. This is ILLEGAL and they need complaints filed against them to the DOT. Also, the FBI investigated a case in 2004 involving 74 moving companies based out of Florida for the same crimes. They prosecuted all of them.
I, too, have had the same experience with destination movers, with pick-up, delivery, threats to throw my things away if I didn't show up in a different state and pay cash because they don't accept credit card, rudeness and bad customer service, etc. This is extortion. PLEASE email me. Individually it is difficult to fight them, but collectively we can show that this is standard and methodical criminal operating procedures on their part! Thank you,
jessica

Moving
Misleading Consumer About Moving Costs
Destination Movers were deceptive in their presentation of moving costs. On 6/17/08, I had spoken with the customer representative, Becky, about the total square footage of items to be moved. Although she had been professional up to this point, I was forced to call her repeatedly as she had made errors in the estimates. After an exchange of 4 emails, Becky had sent me a final price of $1236.90 for 248 sq feet of furniture. This was considered “a binding estimate.” I agreed to this total and signed the computerized contract.
The movers came to my family’s house on 6/21. I had already left for California at that time so that I would be present 5 days after the movers picked up the furniture. The movers told my brother (who was present at the house) that the total square footage was 350 rather than 248 feet after the items were already packed. The estimate did not seem accurate as the apartment in San Francisco was only 650 sq feet in size. The total ended up being $2129. This total included $384 for “new packing” for a total of 32 items. Only a mirror, 4 pictures, and a sofa had been “repacked.” Due to the fact that the furniture had already been loaded on the truck, my brother had little choice, but agree to the sum of $2129.
Our moving items were finally delivered on 7/26/08. While discussing the charges for delivery to San Francisco, Becky had told me during the initial booking that the first flight of stairs is free. Here is an excerpt from the electronic contract:
Stairs: The first flight of stairs will not be charged. Each additional flight will be charged at $75 per flight.
Upon delivery of the items in San Francisco, one of the movers, Renee asked for $225 to bring the items up from the first floor to our second floor apartment. When I objected, he agreed to carry our articles up for a “discounted” $150. He stated that “a flight of stairs” was considered to be 7 stairs. The apartment was considered to have four flights (the three steps leading into the apartment=1 flight; 14 steps=2 flights; flat landing=1 flight). I agreed to pay the $150 as Renee would not bring the items up to the apartment without this sum.
Misleading the Consumer About Time of Pickup and Delivery
Destination Movers told me that the delivery time would be 1-14 days during the month of June (a “busy month” per Becky). The contract sent by email and signed by me said1-21 business days. Here is the section of the contract for delivery cut and pasted into this letter:
DELIVERY TERMS:
1. Delivery schedule for the same regions are 1-14 business days.
2. Delivery schedule from the East Coast (from or to) the west coast are 1-21 Business Days.
3. Delivery schedule for all other regions are 1-14 business days.
All delivery times are from the earliest date that you are able to receive delivery.
On the day of pick-up in North Wales, PA, we were told that the movers would come by 10 am. They showed up at 730 pm. Our items were stored then placed in a storehouse, and Destination Movers failed to address any of consumer’s concerns from the period from when the furniture was picked up to when it was delivered. We were placed on hold for periods ranging from 10-45 minutes after calling the company about a date of delivery. Upon being asked for a supervisor, the consumer was again put on hold. The supervisors, Max or Ruben, would have different excuses such as “the truck is broken, ” “trust me, you’ll get your stuff, ” and “you will get your stuff in 21 business days.”
Destination Movers delivered our items five days past the 21-day delivery promise stated on our moving contract (picked up on 6/21 and delivered 7/26). The movers were scheduled to arrive at our apartment at 2:00 in the afternoon, but did not arrive until 8:00 p.m. The moving truck in which our items arrived was packed in a haphazard manner, with furniture and boxes thrown on top of each other (See attached photos).
Negligent and Unprofessional Care of Household Goods
Upon picking up the furniture items from the house in North Wales, PA, the movers failed to establish an inventory system. All boxes had my original labels, which I had provided myself. Some items were repacked and no labels were applied to the outside of these boxes. Consequently, the delivering movers on 7/26 spent 2 ½ hours locating the items. One of the items, a framed picture that had been a family heirloom, was completely lost. I was called down to help them located my items buried within their truck of other peoples’ belongings piled haphazardly upon each other (please see attached photo). In their search for our furniture, the movers also caused significant damage to items belonging to other customers. At one point, one of the movers stepped upon and damaged the air conditioner belonging to another customer.
During the process of unloading and delivering our furniture to the San Francisco apartment, the movers damaged our front door and scratched our wood floor (please see attached pictures). In addition, they caused significant damage to our items and promised us that “this was how we found it at the warehouse.” These items were all in perfect condition when loaded into the moving van from our home in North Wales, PA . The following items were damaged:
1. Toshiba 19 inch television set—this item was dented caught fire when it was plugged in.
2. Antique mirror—cracked at top (please see attached photo)
3. Walnut chested drawers—large chunk of wood chipped off from back (please see attached photo)
4. Cherry wood dresser—bottom foundation cracked and ruptured—delivered upside down (please see attached photograph).
There was one lost item, a picture frame. The promised to call us the next day, after they located the picture in their moving truck, but they have yet to contact us or return our missing picture.
Unprofessionalism
The majority of movers with whom I have interacted have been Israeli. The movers have taken it upon themselves to make inappropriate comments to the consumer regarding the religion they have in common. Upon picking up items, they asked my brother whether he had been to Israel. When he said no, they replied, “How come? You’re rich and this should be no problem with you.” Upon delivery of the furniture, one of the movers, Renee asked me whether my fiancé was Jewish or not. Please see above for unprofessional practices when calling about delivery times.

Worst experience
It started innocently enough. We received a quote online through a website program where we list our belongings and they give the info to several moving companies who then email quotes. Destination Movers gave us one of the lowest quotes and they claimed they had headquarters in both states (FL and IL). The day before the movers were supposed to come, I received a voice-mail from the dispatch telling me that the movers would arrive between 8 am and 10 am. I made plans accordingly, painting my walls, disassembling my belongings and packing them away. I awoke early and waited. And waited. Finally, I called after hearing nothing by 10:15.
The man on the other end said we should have been contacted by the driver. We waited some more. Finally, calling back to the main office and obtaining the phone number of the driver, we learned he was just leaving Tampa and would be in Gainesville in 2 hours. Well, 1 pm came and went and we called the driver again to see where he was. "Tampa, " he screamed into the phone. Then, around 3 pm, he called me to ask for directions to my apartment. To make a long story short, the movers showed up at 4:15 pm after ruining my whole day.
So they were there. But they claimed that I hadn't listed most of my belongings for the quote price and that "we will see once it is in the truck. But before we start, we need you to sign this." I signed a statement that showed I would pay the quoted price. After complaining the whole time about how hard it is to lift a couch and carry it down stairs, they demanded that I pay them the whole price of my quote.
I explained to them that I am to pay them half upon delivery at the other end. They agreed that what I owed them WAS half and the total cost was now DOUBLE because of the extra items and how much cubic feet they encompassed. They estimated some numbers and did not allow me to view the inside of the truck to confirm. Then they demanded I pay them for extra stairs, even though my apartment was only up one flight of stairs (included in the contract). I told them i wouldn't pay. Then they demanded I pay them for the blankets and tape...whereupon i showed them in the contract that that was included. The Israeli driver said, "Ok, look, you nice guy. I give you deal. I no charge for stairs or blankets, but you pay us 850 and then give nice tip."
At this point (6 pm) I was so fed up and wanted these idiots out of my sight that I payed up.
Upon delivery, my building manager reserved a huge space for the truck on my street directly outside my building. We even had the police tow cars to make sure there was sufficient room for the truck. The time frame they gave was between 4 pm and 7 pm. They, of course, didn't show up until 11:30 pm. They demanded I pay them $200 extra for a long carry because they wouldn't attempt to drive the truck onto my street where the spot was reserved. The guy (a different Israeli man) just refused to drive the truck onto my street. Then an extra $200 for the stairs. They wouldn't unload until i paid them the total amount and threatened driving away with my stuff and charging an extra $500.
After arguments led nowhere, I knew I had been scammed and so I just wanted done with them. I paid in full. Halfway through the unloading and "long carry" the sky opened up and it started to pour. The movers left all of my belongings on the front lawn in the rain as they futilely tried to carry my couch through the front door. AND THEN A PRIMAL SCREAM from the Israeli fellow as he dropped the couch on his ankle in between a stair. The other mover kept pushing and pushing and the scream got louder and louder. I helped hold the couch as the Israeli man removed his ankle from inbetween the stair and couch. He could not move anything else that night, and we assumed he broke his ankle.
To make a long story short, I became the mover at this point and, along with the building manager and my father, carried the majority of my furniture (including dining room table and pull out couch) into my apartment. During this time, the Israeli guy hopped lamely back to the truck and recovered. The Jamaican guy was also nowhere to be found after the couch got inside. Finally after we were done, he came back and demanded a tip. I laughed. But judging from his enormous stature I knew I had to give over some sort of tip for this joker, or else be pounded.
Never under any circumstances do I reccommend using Destination Movers. They are complete scam artists and tremendously unproffessional.

Extortionists
To sum it up I was quoted a price over the phone and explained that they would need me to cover my mirrors in bubble wrap and wrap my couch as well. The young lady told me that the price included packing and wrapping the bed. I did as she asked and when the movers came they charged me an extra $1273 for extra items and packing. I agreed to pay for the extra items but didn't want to pay for the packing I did noit asked for. After taking my things I was asked for a tip and to take up my complaint with the manager. I called every day for 2 weeks before getting him. He gave me a $129 dollar refund only! I asked for my things to be returned he said it was already gone and would be ready on the 29 of May. On that date the movers were not ready and said they could not deliver until june 9. I asked to be informed of a time 24hrs in advance he called a the day before late at night and could not give me an estimated time. He was aware that he would be delivering at a storage facility (Public Storage). The mover called me after 6pm when the storage facility was closed and I could not move my things in. He then tried to charge me an extra $300 dollars over the phone. I spoke with him as well as the manager and he agreed to move it that morning and not charge me. The driver got lost and went to another public storage. I had to go get him and he followed me back to the storage facility. He then tried to charge me $300 again. He refused to give me my things then took the money and left my stuff in the street at PS. PLEASE REPORT THESE PEOPLE TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. There are many complaints about them around the web we need to do something about this!

Fraud and scam
This was not just the worst moving experience for me (and I have moved many times before), but it was easily, hands down the worst consumer experience I have ever had. It was the equivalent of consumer rape. And it could happen to you too. I read Kathryn from Pittsburgh's report and wished that I had checked this site out before going with Destination Movers. The similarities are uncanny. So much so that I just cut and pasted the beginning part from her because that part was spot on. I bet we even had the same lazy, fat truck driver who showed up a full day late, an Israeli guy named 'Ben'. More on him in a bit. It made me realize these guys keep pulling this scam on people over and over, a pattern, not a coincidence.
Our experience started with a phone conversation with Erika. She was nice enough and after a 'careful' assessment gave us an estimate for our cross country move around $11, 500. We were told that we would have 6 movers pack and load our stuff in a single day, starting in the morning. We made plans accordingly (flight, rental cars, etc.). When the big day arrived, no movers. That's when the nightmare began.
About 12 hours after promised, three people showed up in a 17 foot box truck with no name on the truck. They did not have a single packing supply! This sleazy guy named Shookie seemed surprised that we did not have all the boxes and tape they would need. They actually had to drive to Lowe's to get the stuff, delaying us further. One of the workers could not speak a word of english; the third mover was Shookie's buddy from Israel who was visiting America on vacation. He weighed about 130 lbs wet and had never packed a house up before. They started that evening and could not finish. They started again the next morning after going back to Lowe's for more supplies. Finally the second day Ben arrives in his 18 wheeler and they start loading stuff up. They had not finished by midnight, so Ben hires 3 underage neighborhood kids that happen to be walking down the road to help load our stuff on his truck. At 2 AM they are still not finished, but I have to leave to drive 4 hours and catch a flight early the next morning. So essentially I get strong armed by Shookie into signing the inventory, only to find out later that that 'estimate' is now $17, 000.
Throughout this nightmare we dealt with several Destination Movers crooks and cronies. Max was the first moron we had to deal with, but we quickly figured him to be a moron and asked for someone in charge. We then a powerless guy named Urine or Urime, something like that. He was always whining 'I don't make the decisions'. Finally we talk to Ruben, not unlike Kathryn did, and let me tell you, this guy is a professional c--k-sucker. This is the kind of guy who would steal from his impoverished mother then laugh about it later. He told me he would drop my stuff off in a warehouse in Chicago if I did not pay the full amount. And he was such a bastard about it, very condescending. Seriously, what choice do you have at that point. These guys get your balls in hand and squeeze as hard as they can. They are really evil men. I don't think I have ever used that word to describe someone before, but I mean it.
A week later after sweating it out and going back and forth numerous times with Ruben, the Hitler of moving companies, we get our stuff delivered. Stuff is smashed, and Ben rushes the unloading part such that stuff gets pushed into the house walls and takes big dents out of them. One of our box springs to a king size bed is missing, yes an entire box spring. And Ben unloads someone else's nice asian rug into our house without realizing it until we tell him.
I love the Destination Movers employee response to this lady Kathryn of Pittsburgh, 'shady customer'. What bullshit. And their internet sites and on-hold phone message claim to provide great service, 100% guaranteed. More bullshit. These guys are serial scammers. They lie about the estimate, then provide the most unprofessional service possible, then extort you using your hard earned possessions to get a lot more money out of you. You have been warned, do not let this happen to you.

Awful experience
I moved from Savannah GA to Oceanside CA this month of June. I had a quoted itinerary of less than $1, 000 for my stuff to be shipped door to door. Destination Movers were two days late picking my stuff up on a scheduled day, and did not submit any paperwork to me whatsoever upon taking my stuff. A few days later I get a call from a man that can hardly speak english (unlike the receptionist Erika) saying that I owe them $1500 instead of the original quote because of extra packing...
Upon Moving, I had agreed to the one month free storage, being informed that at any time, when i was ready - to call them and schedule a delivery... It took me many 20 minute waiting sessions being on hold to speak with Erika, Yureem, Max, among others to get to the bottom of where and when my belongings would be delivered. I had asked to speak to a supervisor on many occasions, coming to find out that all employees claim to be that person on any given day... I scheduled my delivery 3 weeks in advance... I actually had to upgrade my phone plan just because of the hassle of being put on hold with these same people... getting the same runaround about 'the truck broke down' but 'we don't know exactly where it broke down at'...
When they finally arrived at my home, a day late from their 21 day max limit... many of my belongings were missing and the ones i received were broken. Before they would even unload anything, the man demanded &75 hard cash before he would unload anything - according to their over 75 feet rule... My contract specifically stated that the first 75 feet, and first flight of stairs come at no charge... I was forced to pay it on the spot by him even though i showed him my contract...
I saw inside of their truck - people's possessions were scrambled on top of each other broken just like mine. I was nice enough to tell the Russian non speaking delivery man, that half of the stuff pulled out of the trailer was not mine... they were very disgruntled people and i can say it was a very unpleasant experience for anyone to go through. I myself like the people who filed before me, will be calling the Florida Attorney General Tomorrow. These people, Destination Movers are a rip off - scam artist company. I feel the need to pass along the word and report it so that others don't have to go what i have been through. They took hard earned money from me, and half of my possessions aren't even worth keeping now. Among the things that weren't delivered - I'm fighting against this company so that others won't have to deal with the misfortunes I and others have had to bare...
