stolen items/unscrupulous, fradulent practice with insurance
It's difficult to chronicle the vast number of complaints I have with Compass Van Lines, and in particular the owner, Avi. He essentially threatened me over the phone once I complained that the company had lost my items, and once the insurance I purchased was denied. "I know your address, don't call here anymore, " was the gist of what I got from our telephone conversation, after several discussions with other employees went nowhere.
From what I can tell, they run a scam with another outside insurance company, TG International. They run up the cost on your bill if you try to get outside insurance (approximately $400 extra), then require you to get a "full packing service", which also costs an extra $250. What they don't tell you (nor does the insurance company) is that you also must get a "full UNpacking service" to qualify for the insurance coverage. So basically you get denied immediately for any damages, because you didn't purchase an "unpacking service" that you knew nothing about. I had more than $1, 500 worth of damage and lost items that the moving company refused to document, and the insurance company refused to pay for. I've since checked the services the offer, and "unpacking" is listed nowhere. A total scam to throw business toward TG International.
Not to mention that when my items were delivered, the mover showed up by himself. I repeat, BY HIMSELF. Meaning if I wanted to get my stuff in the apartment, I had to pitch in alongside him, carrying boxes and other heavy items into the building. It was preposterous. But by that time, I was so desperate to get my stuff that I would do anything. Plus the mover didn't set up the bed or other furniture as per the contract.
As for the lost items, I have no doubt they were stolen along the way.
Compass Van Lines is an unscrupulous, fraudulent company that certainly moved from Florida to Texas in order to escape an onslaught of complaints against them. They are attempting to wreak more havoc on unsuspecting consumers.
DON"T BE LURED IN BY THE LOW PRICES. Moving is a shady business overall, but be willing to pay extra for a legitimate company that won't lose/steal your stuff and ultimately not pay up as they should once they have done the damage.
Customer service here is atrocious. The owner, Avi, is unprofessional and unreasonable. I know of no other company that would threaten its clients. But then again, once they have your stuff, you are at their mercy. BEWARE COMPASS VAN LINES!!

Unprofessional
They never called to let me know they were coming. They just showed up. They forged my moving contract, and then tried to hold their changes over my head. They broke and lost over $1300 worth of items and only offered me $160 as a settlement. When I complained to the BBB, they first ignored it, then said it was MY fault they screwed up. I hope they go out of business soon. NO one use them!

Overcharged, Mishandled, Missing items
I decided to choose Compass Van Lines when they beat the competitor by lowering their price. When it came time to pack up my belongs, they charged me for tape that they did not need to use. I had left to go to the bank because I was charged 150's extra for living on the 3rd floor. My belongs were then pack, this was in August. I called them at the end of September and the did not know where my shipment was, mind you it was suppose to be in storage. When I get my shipment all of my belongs are damage, my bookcase is broken, my desk is broken, and all my boxes have been damaged. But this is not the icing on the cake, my TV is missing. When asked about it the driver continues to say "I am only the driver" and that the other driver quit and left my belongings in the middle of South Carolina. Customer Service wasn't that great either, I had to call about ten times a day to get any answers, and all she kept saying was I need to contact my driver. Shouldn't they be responsible for their drivers actions, and accountable at all times for where they are at. I now have to fill out forms that may take up to three months to process in order to get the money for my television. As a moving company they should hold themselves to a higher standard, I was unhappy in which my shipment was processed and hope that this review helps others.

overcharges/damages
Compass Van Lines is a rip-off. They give you a low quote over the phone to get your business and then when they pick up your furniture, they doubled my quote. They don't tell you this until they already have your furniture on the truck. They didn't deliver furniture until several days after the promised due date and then when they did come they didn't get there until after mid-night. Said they would be there at 6pm. Waited for 6 hours. Three of the 5 pieces of furniture were broken. They didn't give us ahe appropiate forms to file a insurance claim. Had to make several phone calls over a 3 week period to get these forms. Please beware, this company is a scam.

Changed quote...Lost items
Quoted me a great price. I had everything packaged as the representative told me to have it packaged (wrapped, boxed, etc) Had the exact same amount of items as my quote said I should have. Then when they got there, they tacked on an extra 2000 dollars to what was originally a 2, 300$ quote. Sweet. Then, they wouldn't give me a date that they would be able to deliver my belongings until about 3 days before they showed up in Los Angeles( A pain when you are trying to coordinate moving across the country). Then, when they got there, they had lost roughly 2, 300 dollars worth of stuff. Just gone. (A box full of dress shoes, a high-end hiking pack, and a super high-end sleeping bag). Then the driver got a parking ticket, and wouldn't deliver any of our stuff unless we gave him cash on the spot for the ticket. Almost impossible to get in touch with them once they have your stuff. All voicemail, never return calls. Broke two of my paintings and a 500 dollar mirror(not even going to bother trying to get them to reimburse) Then, added nearly 700 dollars more that they needed in cash for the delivery because they charge an extra 75$ to use an elevator and 100$ per 75 ft from the back of the truck to the furnitures location to the truck. So basically, what was originally a 2300 dollar quote became a 6, 000 dollar ordeal. If you include the value of stuff that they lost or broken it was close to a 9, 000 dollar ordeal. If you use this company your brain is broken.

STOLE STUFF AND DIDN'T FINISH
We hired Compass Van Lines to move us from FL to MD. They stole our $5k TV and several other things. We paid them to set up our furniture as well and they refused to put anything together and left everything there because they said they were Jewish and couldn't work after sundown. It is a LONG arbitration process that is time consuming and costly to get ANY money back. DO NOT USE COMPASS VAN LINES...they are out to steal items. If you look at their history they have changed their name several times and now they are operating out of TX instead of FL. They probably had to move so no one would vandalize their building and trucks...which look nothing like the picture! They are old trucks with the logo painted over with white paint with a bunch of idiots pretending they know what they are doing. Not to mention Avi, the owner. Every time you try and call him you get another voicemail and a runaround where he is not available.

Boss is a scumbag
The boss, Avi, is a total scumbag. He works his employees to the bone, with some work days ranging from 18-24 hours, then expecting them to be in at 8 AM sharp the next day (and every day after that for the most part). Although I never met personally them, I was told by other employees that he hires illegal immigrants. In my own personal experience, along with those of other employees, this greedy lowlife would skimp his employees on their pay and even try to haggle you on the already agreed upon wage. Do yourself a favor, don't work for this company or use their overpriced service (unless you want to get screwed). And please, Avi, do the world a favor and french-kiss a shotgun, you cheap soulless pig-fucker.

There is no complain
My move was nothing but wonderful. The guys were so respectful, fast and professional. All my items were delivered in great shape, I was careful to pack some of the items myself, but even the boxes they packed were done exceptionally! I would recommend Compass to ANYONE!!! They have an A+ on my list.

No one is Perfect... No complaints for us
No complaints from us, Compass saved our asses. No company is perfecrt and I feel the need to defend this company. I would recommend them to anyone. They came through for me when the other moving company that I had hired took all my money up front then never showed!
