Unauthorized charges
I went to freecreditreport.com which, as suggested by the name, should be free, well they ask you for your credit card number so they can supposedly look up your credit report, but what they don't tell you is that they will charge your credit card 14.95 every month until you call and cancel your service with them, that you never even wanted in the first place... my advice is don't get involved with freecreditreport.com... the number to call and cancel your service with them is (888-829-6560).

Misleading membership sign-up
On Mar 25, 2008, I signed up for my free credit report at an online site called CreditReport.com. There was a 30-day free trial period during which I can cancel at any time. I received and printed my credit reports and everything seems OK. On April 8, 2008, I canceled my membership and I got my cancellation order. I was told in the cancellation confirmation that I will still be receiving notifications in my e-mail until the end of the 30-day period.
Three months later, I noticed that a credit card account that I seldom used was being charged about $30 each month. When I called the phone number 877-481-6825, for the company CIC Triple Advantage, I found out that their web site is FreeCreditReport.com and that I have unwittingly signed up for membership in a monitoring service that I do not need. They told me that they did not receive any cancellation of my membership. For monitoring my wife's and my credit record, CIC Triple Advantage is charging us $15 a month each.
I called CreditReport.com to find out what happened with my cancellation notice. That's when I found out that they are actually two companies but they deny any wrong doing. CreditReport.com confirmed my cancellation notice but they said they have no obligation to notify FreeCreditReport.com because it is a separate company.
I filed a dispute form with my bank to see if the charges can be reversed, but at this point, I have very little hope it will happen.

Unauthorized charges
I went to this site to look at my FREE credit report, and I ended up with a $14.95 a month charged on my account for 3 months. At first I had no idea what it was for, I thought it was some kind of service charge from my bank. I called CIC and they said i could only get one month refunded.

Did not request this service
I received a FREE credit report and was then charged a monthly fee for additional information I did not request. This is a true scam. When I called "cic, " a lady with a thick European accent answered the phone. I couldn't understand a word she said. I got the run-around for about 5 minutes before filing this complaint.
I want to cancel whatever agreement I was "tricked" into receiving. This is ridiculous!

Unexpected charges - why, and what to do about it!
OK - the vast majority of these complaints I have read are people who didn't read the fine print. Don't shoot me yet - this is the deal.
CIC Triple Advantage, dba freecreditreport.com run those ads on TV with the guy singing silly songs about how he wasn't watching his credit etc. They now charge even more for their service - $14.95 per month, but you get what you pay for...
FOLKS! There IS a free credit report website - it is annualcreditreport.com - it IS free, it IS for real, it IS your legal right - a snapshot of your credit report from all 3 reporting agencies, once per year.
It may surprise you to know that Experian - one of the credit agaencies - runs CIC - they are not going to give you their service for free, but you can have your 30 day trial - just remember...
