My husband and I contracted with Chuck Pollock of Chuck Pollock Building Corp. to build a log home in Williamsburg, VA. At our first meeting he told us that he had built a log home so was familiar with the details, and that he had worked on another one. We found out later that he had never built a log home, and had no idea what he was doing. He is actually a "framer". Consequently he did not deliver the home on time and when we did move in there was a huge punchlist of items that needed to be addressed. A year later, this list is still not complete. In addition, it is extremely important that a log home be protected from the elements by a high-quality stain. We provided this stain to Mr. Pollock, however, his painting contractor did an extremely poor job of applying it. Our home is not protected from the elements in any way, and our deck railings have turned black. He takes no responsibility for this, nor for the items that need to be addressed because of house settlement. We have to bring in our own people to finish the house, and correct the problems. We did notify him, through our lawyer, that we would be doing this and will now have to bring him to Small Claims Court to try and recoup these damages. We also attempted to file a complaint against his license with the State of Virginia, but we were told that they do not look at "workmanship", only the items that were not completed. This means that if he attempts to complete unfinished items 5 years from now, then he is in the right. I think that this is absolutely ridiculous.
