Center Point Energy Reviews

Gas Bills
I am the executrix of a house left to me and others when my uncle died. I live 350 miles from this empty house. The house was empty for a year and a half and up for sale. The gas bills were off the chart. I have made many calls to them and have written a letter. No one answered the letter or called about it. I hired a plumber to check out leaks in the home - no leaks. Center Point does nothing. They can't explain why I have these bills. The gas hot water tank is turned off, and the gas heating system is off. People never call you back. The people you speak to have no idea what is going on. I have a list of all the dates I have called them and whom I have spoken to. The house sold in Dec. and today I had the new owners call me and asked about the high bills. When the last bill was off the chart again, I told them I wouldn't pay it and they made a note of that and said they would have someone call me. NOTHING Then I got a statement telling me they were turning me over to a collection agency. If anyone owes money, it is them. They owe me hundreds for their problem that they have not attempted to address.

Terrible Service
5/11 the gas company decided to turn of my gas. Been on the phone with them for 3 days now trying to talk to someone in charge to get it turned on again, because THEY made a mistake. The claim was my bill was not paid, well it has never been late, always paid in full, and the newest bill was not due til next week, so they messed up.
They tell me a guy will be out, that was 2 days ago, and the next day, a guy will be out... nothing. Today I call again, and hear back from them that the driver was afraid to enter my area because he had a warrant for his arrest. I live in a gated community with private guards... COME ON !! Private guards... NOT POLICE. Even so, how is it my problem that thee people who work for them has law issues. Later today he denies it, and that he was at our house at 7 am this morning and knocked on our door, rang the doorbell and nobody opened. Another lie, we were both up.

Center Point Energy will not let us get in touch with anyone in charge, either a supervisor, manager or whatever they like to call themselves. Their service is horrible, and frankly I have had enough. Tired of just having one company who can run it as they please.

I would let this go if they would just come out and correct the mistake they have made, but no they wont... First chance I get to chance Gas company I am gone, and I will make sure my entire homeowners association will switch everyone as well. This company is bad bad service, and they don't have to care, as they are the sole provider of gas in Houston.

While I been writing this, my husband got in contact with a supervisor, and she disregard any complaint he got. She says there is no way to confirm our story...!!! Someone will be out tomorrow, and it's just too bad that it's their mistake. He asked for her boss, but apparently she's got none, she is the top of the cream and answers to nobody.. Amber is her name, and she got no last name either. What a company, I am shocked.

This will not end here...

Ignoring downed power line reports
Center Point has been contacted over one hundred times regarding downed power lines on Spring Cypress Road between Grant and Eldridge Roads in northwest Harris County zip code 77377. Center Point is ignoring community requests to have these lines and downed poles repaired/replaced. Center Point is also diverting power restoration crews from this area to other, more affluent areas in the wake of hurricane Ike. Center Point refuses to send crews to this area even though a clear and present hazardous condition exists. Center Point is negligent and liable for this hazard.

Terrible service
Center Point Energy made me wait a month for the installment of the utility gas service. The reason is that they need the customer to accommodate to them. They cannot give you a specific time when the person that will install the service will be at your home. You have to wait the whole day for that person. You have to take a day off from work. In my case, I couldn't, because I was getting paid by the hour - which means that I had to sacrifice a whole day of salary, to stay home for this person from Center Point. So, I made an agreement to be at home yesterday, a month later of my call. At 10:00 A.M. I called to confirm that somebody from Center Point was coming, and they said: "Yes, anytime between now and 5:00 P.M.". At 2:00 I heard the postman and went outside to pick up my mail, when, to my surprise, I discovered a note from Center Point energy stating that they came at 1:35, called, and I didn't answer, so I have to schedule for another date!!! I called them, to tell them that I was at home, and that they could come back, and they said it was my fault, that they are too busy and that they couldn't make special requests... and bla, bla, bla. I decided to cancel, and live without gas service... I'm going to buy an electric stove, a small electric water heater and wait couple of years until we have in Houston a more sensible utility gas company that accommodates to the needs of the costumers and not the other way around. We are not in 1950's when every home had a housewife to take care of domestic issues... we are in a big city, with a lot of people living by themselves without relatives to stay home for a day to sit and wait for an utility person to install a service... Center Point Gas has to be flexible, schedule a specific time, so the costumer can take some time from work, be at home, and then go back. They must work Saturdays, and after hours, like children daycare do, like plumbing companies do, like must companies do... so people can have their utility gas service installed without so much sacrifice... It is ridiculous (and out of proportion) that somebody like me have to wait a month, then take a day off, not getting paid a whole day, and then, be mistreated at the phone, just for utility gas service!

Fee for paying by debit card
Center Point Energy - www.centerpointenergy.com

Installing energy they sad they would not rip-off their customers by charging a fee for pay with debt cards but center point charges 2.95 to pay them with your debt/credit card which s outrageous and cuts their labor costs too too bad we can't change from this illegal monopoly.

Terrible service!
This past Thursday, I phoned Center Point Energy and reported a gas leak; a tech came out and found where the leaks were and informed me that they had to take our meter; they never told me on the phone that they might take the meter when I called; The tech told me that if we could have a plummer come out and fix the problem that we could still call them back and someone would bring the meter back before midnight. The plummer came and would not do anything until the gas company told him whether they were going to come back out. They said then that we would have to have a city inspector come out and then once we got cleared with him that they would bring the meter back. Today the plummer came and fixed the problem at a charge of 1200.00 plus and once again we were told that the inspector would clear us and then the company would bring out the meter. We were told that the inspector informed Center Point at 245pm today and 5hours later we were still waiting for someone to come. I called the office again tonight at 8pm and was told they might could get to it but could not promise anything. We have been without heat for over 30 hours and both myself and my husband informed them of my health condition. And here it is after 11pm and no word back from them at all. They want the bill paid on time and we did everything we could do to do our part; my husband rushed out Thursday night and even got a new hot water heater. What does it take to get anything done; who do you call? Joyce Singleton Houston, Texas
