No customer service
Bank of America provides zero customer service or help of any kind to long term customers with accounts in good standing. While attempting to deposit my payroll check at a BofA ATM machine, the machine took my card and wouldn't give it back. I couldn't make my deposit either. I called the BofA toll free number. All I got was excuses and patronizing lip service. They refused, despite my specific request, to send a bank employee to my location to retrieve my debit card from the machine. That was "against their policy". A manager I asked for then told me the same thing and refused to help in any way.
People beware! If you use Bank of America, you are on your own if you encounter any problems like this. They will NOT help you in any way. They will do nothing whatsoever for you.

Awful bank
I made a deposit to my bank account. At the time of the deposit I already a positive balance. I then made three purchases. Despite my deposit, which come to find out was 41 minutes after the deposit time (for my money to post as available), the bank charged me three separate charges. Beyond the irritating fact that I was unaware of their little deposit time rule, my favorite factor is that they take the highest amount that I spent... put my account overdrawn, then proceeded to take out the other two amounts plus charges.
When I called to appeal to their customer service department... they offered me no help. Thanks Bank of America.

Outrageous fees
I have repeatedly been screwed over by BOA. Their website is great... as long as you want to track how many overdraft fees you will receive!
They have a tendency to do two things 1)They will credit your account as little as legally possible ($100 until the check clears, even though the checking rules after 9/11 made checks clear almost immediately, although they can wait 7-10 business days to have it clear). And 2)Wait for all that overdraft money to flow in. Your online statement will read something like this by date (day 1)$700 paycheck pending, (day 2)$200 on groceries pending, (day 3)$200 on bills pending, (day 4)$100 on car repairs pending, (day 5)$100 on doctor bills, and (day 6) $100 in cash. Guess what BOA does? Sorry, but your paycheck didn't clear until they could rack up all those overdraft fees, so it's $35x6=$210. And that's just quick math for it. I've had more than a few overdraft charges because they dragged their feet with my paychecks. How can they really charge a person a $35 overdraft fee over a coke and a bag of chips?
I find this type of banking quite disgusting and prefer local banks. I'd rather pay the few dollars to get money at an ATM than $35 for overdraft fees. It is absolutely ridiculous.

Overcharged
My bank account was double charged for overdraft fees. This is not the first time this has occurred, and on previous occasions, I simply called customer service to get the erroneous charges reversed. However, this time, the representative I spoke with refused to refund the charges. She told me that money for 'pending transactions' was 'set aside' until those transactions cleared. This lowered the available balance, and when additional transactions went through, the account was assessed overdraft fees. The overdrafts were deducted from the money that had been 'set aside' for 'pending transactions'. Then, the 'pending transactions' went through and more overdraft fees were charged to the account.
In all, there were six overdrafts and the account was charged for twelve! I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission. In addition, I will be closing my Bank of America account asap. I'm sick of their shady practices and 'creative accounting'.

Rude service
I used the Bank of America machine that said if you deposited your check which it scanned and gave you the printed copy receipt of your check, that the fund would be available by 8pm and they weren't.
I talked to a customer service rep who said she didn't know anything about that kind of machine and was sorry they were advertising that and said that no one would be able to answer my questions. I then talked to a superviser who said that yes they would be available by that evening but that mine would not. I asked her several times what she meant and why mine would not be and she kept saying that even though it says that night, the funds don't process til the next day. She and her helper were very rude and could not answer the question of why my funds would not credit to the account the day they were deposited and kept telling me they would be available the next day. Her name was Stefanie Quevedo in Nevada.

Terrible bank
I am 74 years of age and my health failed. I am handicapped and unable to work. I owned 8 bank credit card a and notified the banks that I could no longer make any payments on their cards. I had never been late or missed a payment. 6 of the banks were cooperative the 7th where i had 2 cards was not. The first of the cards had a big balance and my wife who still works said she would take it over since she had used it the most. We filed the necessary papers and she makes the payments. The 2nd card which carried a much smaller balance is the problem. The bank claims she is a co-applicant on the card and I advised them she is and was not. I requested physical proof that she signed on as a co-applicant and they said they would send it. We have received nothing but the run around and this is now in its 4th month. They finally admitted that the application was done on the phone and that because they have her SS # and D.O.B. that makes her a co-applicant.
They also send statements with the correct account number on it and their collection letters list a different account number. We questioned it and the reply was 'we changed the number for security purposes and sent you a letter and new cards'. We said we never received either and contacted their archive department and have received 4 letters that this changed number does not and has never existed. Now they say that they inadvertently did not mail the letter or the card, but the numbers are the same.
My wife offered to settle with them on at least 8 times and asked only for proof that she was a co-applicant. They tapped danced the subject and refused to put a supervisor on the phone. They have canceled the card in question and her other card which was in good standing and they have also advised the credit bureaus that the cards are canceled for non payment.
The attorney general of florida can do nothing because this bank is NA which is not under any state control. I am sure they have disregarded some truth in lending law. Do they have to furnish proof that she was a co-applicant?
I am sure that she was a authorized user on the account which means she is not responsible for the debt.

faked an advance loan I never took out
My father died suddenly while I was traveling so I changed direction and went to his home. We needed clothing and such for his services and I did not have access to a computer so I decided to make an extra $3000.00 payment just to be sure we had plenty of room on our Alaska Airlines Bank of America Visa card. I did not yet owe a payment and I was not close to my limit. I am just cautious and know about all of the various ways credit card companies trap consumers into pirate interest rates and fees. In fact, I don't pay my bill each month by the due date, but by the earlier closing date so they cannot trick me into paying interest.
Apparently, when I made an automatic payment via their phone service, I input my routing number incorrectly. However, BOA gave me the message that the payment was made and gave me a confirmation number.
When I returned home a week later, exhausted and grieving, I discovered the $3000.00 payment hadn't processed. I called the company and they told me that the routing number was input incorrectly so I made the payment right there on the phone since I'd tried to earlier anyway. This payment was more than I owed for the billing period and almost three weeks before it was due.
Three weeks later when I looked at my account online I discovered a $3000.00 cash advance loan at almost 30% interest! I never asked for a cash advance, I never needed a cash advance, and altogether I had paid $6000.00 when I owed less than $5000.00 for that month! And I had paid it early!
I emailed customer service and they emailed me back telling me I had requested the loan. I corrected them and told them no, I had merely input the wrong digit into the phone when trying to make payment, no actual money went back and forth, and I made the payment a week later well in advance of when it was due and for at least $1500 more than I owed for that billing period. They wrote back telling me that they "could not" remove the cash advance or change anything. Mind you, I never actually got the $3000.00 because it was all just a numbers on paper game. They had debited my account the initial $3000.00 phone payment and then credited it, taken it back, the very same day. They claimed to have loaned me $3000.00, but did not actually give it to me to keep. I asked them that since, on paper, they my the payment back the same day they gave it to me, why didn't I have an extra $3000.00?
We went back and forth for days, they denied my request, then they stalled. My husband called them and lost his temper because the customer service person was rude and he kept excusing what was happening because we "had requested the cash advance." After my husband lost his temper, the customer service rep told him they would remove the cash advance and return the interest they had charged us. It was not removed and we were not reimbursed. Instead, both my paper bills and my online bills ceased! Someone changed my online billing status to stop my receiving them and I did not receive any in the mail!
I contacted them by email again since the phone calls had proved worthless and asked why they had not followed through on what customer service told us they would do for us. I received an email telling me that they were "reviewing" the issue and then I never heard from them again.
Because we use our card for almost everything in order to earn miles, there are charges on it almost daily. Instead of applying the $6000.00 in payments to what I owed that month, BOA applied it to new charges in the next billing period so that almost none of the $3000.00 "cash advance" was being paid. For the next three months our payments continued to be applied to new billing periods even when I sent in enough to pay the entire amount owed for each month plus the "cash advance." Thus, the cash advance was not going down by much each month.
Finally, we wrote to our Senator and included copies of everything. He wrote to them and forwarded our complaint to the comptroller's office. As soon as they got a letter from the Senator, a customer service rep called me, apologized profusely, returned our interest. removed the cash advance from our record, and refunded our yearly fee for that year. Although we have been reliable customers for many years, they weren't satisfied with the merchant fees they get every time we use our card; they wanted to force us into paying high interest. If our Senator had not written to them for an explanation, they would have continued cheating us.

they closed my accounts without notice
I called Bank of America to ask if I could lower my interest rates on my cards only to be told that 24.99% is a good rate and the only way to get a better one is to be a new customer. What? That's ridiculous! Two days later I called to see what my balance was only to find out that my cards had been closed! I have never been late and always make more than a min. payment! What is going on?

Awful bank
They reported that we had sufficient funds and then, since that wasn't really the case, when the account was debited, we had to pay the over-draft penalty again! They create these issues almost every month. We thought it was the result of a glitch, or that the agent was on drugs, but it's because it's company policy to SKIM accounts.
What they practice is piracy and offering false information in order to steal, is a criminal fraud. Companies or groups that agree to commit a criminal act, as a matter of POLICY, violate the Rico Act; which is a law created to prosecute criminal organizations, or rackets who's policy it is to practice criminal level violations of the law.
Only, in this case, they generate the error that produces the theft that creates the bonuses. They found a new niche and are working it to death, because they assume no risk, so far.

Bank fees and overdraft charges
Does anyone notice that ever sense Bank of America bought Country Wide they have been very aggressive with charging fees. Now we know whose money they used to buy it!
Again, with them buying Merrill Lynch ...there goes the fees again.
You could look at your bank statement one moment and see that your account is in good standing then 3 hours later they have made the decision for you that the higher amount items presented for paying are a priority, therefore stacking all of your low charges at the end of the line can cause your oversite up to 5 overdraft fees of $35.00. If they didn't do that your $4.82 check would of went through along with your $20.00, $30.00 etc.
And forget getting them to forgive them, I 'm pretty sure by the way the customer service reps talk (ie: I'm going to get in trouble for this) they get credit for how many overrides they DON'T give out or penalized for those they do give.
They are becoming a joke in the industry.
