Terrible bank
The software application that is provided by Bank of America for downloading to cell phones that allows access to account balances, presents the account data in a manner that is misleading when compared to the same data available through their On-Line Banking function when viewed by computer. The misleading data generates a revenue stream from the overdraft charges it creates.
When contacted about the misleading information their Executive Customer Service representative rudely made it clear that Bank Of America does not accept information regarding the accuracy or functionality of their On-Line applications from their customers. He also rudely made it clear that Bank of America is in business for making a profit and that I should be using pencil and paper for tracking my account data instead of trusting the accuracy of their On-Line applications.

Overcharged
I have automatic payments set up for my Bank of America (BOA) credit card set to pay a certain amount on the day I receive my e-statement. BOA is claiming that one of the payments was never made because my bank told them the account was closed. The bank account was never closed and none of the other automatic payments have been late or missing or declined by the bank. They were unhelpful on the phone. They told me to take it up with my bank. So I checked into it and of course the bank has no idea why BOA would make such a claim. And of course BOA is charging a higher interest on the supposed missing payment. Grrr...

Holding our funds
BE VERY CAREFUL - THEY HOLD YOUR FUNDS -We are a non-profit business. One of our checks came in and was returned. We still had a positive balance on our accounts. However, after 7 years and no warning, BOA froze ALL our accounts on December 23rd at 8pm. No warning, no nothing. Our money has been unable to be accessed for 8 days so far. Supposedly, "corporate has decided that we are a high risk customer" and is closing our accounts on December 31 (today) We are going to be mailed Cashier's checks from each account today - supposedly.
Our non-profit business serves the youth. I am not sure how to publicize this event but I want everyone who has an account with Bank of America to switch. They will pull your accounts at a moment's notice without telling you, no matter how long you have been with them or how much money you pass through them. We are small but still passed over $750, 000 through them this year. There is no one local to talk to. The branches are at the mercy of "Corporate" and can't help you. I have opened a new account at TD BankNorth and it is nice to talk to humans who actually know you and actually want your business. What was amazing to me is that they closed my wife's and mine personal accounts also!! They have frozen them since December 23rd despite having positive balances!! Fortunately we have other means of buying food, gas, etc. but had we not we would have had a terrible holiday season!
If you own a local business do not bank with Bank of America. They do not care about you and their local branches are completely powerless. Go with someone you can have a personal relationship with.

Endless List
About 3 years ago I opened an account with BofA, checking and savings. I was told that I would get a 25 gift card for opening my checking account, a $10 gift card when I opened my savings, and another $10 for referring someone to their bank. I did all of that. After 9 months or so, I was getting pretty crappy customer service, so I decided to complain about the fact that I had never received any of the gift cards. The person I spoke with said I would need to talk with the person who opened my account for me. That person was no longer there. I moved to another bank immediately.
I still have a credit card with BofA. I have used their online service to make my payments. They did not post my payments in a timely manner, and now they are charging me 30% interest on my balance. I transferred some of the balance to lower interest cards. They did not post the transfers timely either. I paid interest on the same money to two different credit card companies, for 8 days the first one and about 14 days on the second one. This should be illegal. I think it is, and so does my attorney. If anyone out there is interested in getting in on a class action lawsuit, please contact me.

Overcharged
Even if you are diligent about keeping track of your money it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep track of it through Bank of America. Every month my husband and I keep all of our receipts, update our checkbook daily and compare our monthly statements to each bill and our checkbook, and we still wind up paying almost over $100 in fees to this place. It is impossible to know when they are going to put a 'pending' transaction through. I could go to four different stores on Thursday afternoon and then write a check at the grocery store on Saturday. They will hold the Thursday transactions until that check goes through on Monday or Tuesday and then charge me fees! They do it all of the time. For one month I printed out a copy of my daily account details through the BofA website and every single day shows a different amount available, even if I went three days without spending any money at all! Bank of America rips people off! I will never recommend them to anyone, not even my worst enemy!

Extra hidden charges
I made 2 wires in Australian dollars and Singapore dollars and was told the charge would be $35USD each, which would come out of my account. When the wires were received, an extra $12AUD and $14.81SGD were deducted from the wired amounts. This is very unethical as I specifically requested that the exact amounts be transfered and the $35 charges were to come out of my account. As a result, the payees are short and I now have to transfer the difference, again.
Banking should be more transparent, no wonder the economy is in the state it is in - there must be many of these illegal deductions going on every day. I hope the new government will put in some reforms to make it illegal for banks to rip off customers like that

Overcharged
That's right, another complaint concerning overdraft fees with Bank of America (BOA). Before you naysayers rise up against me, let me first tell you that I did not monitor my account or my spending as closely as I should have. Now with that being said, let me say this.
My checking account was -$136 (negative). After discovering this, I immediately transferred $300 from savings to my checking. Later on that night after 1 am, I discovered that my account was -$145 (negative). I asked myself how could this be.. I rectified this situation about 10 hrs earlier.
The next morning I contacted BOA and asked an explanation of how this could have happened. I was told that the system recognized that i overdrew my account an accessed my account the overdraft fee of $35 five times. Ouch!
Let me explain to you what I believed happened: The computer software charged me again for 5 items which caused my account to be overdrawn again even after I moved the $300 over from savings to checking.
The BOA contact explained to me that those additional charges were from today and that the previous charges were from the day before. Here is where it gets CrAZy. Before we got off the phone, she stated that 'once you get an overdraft fee it unfortunately begins to snowball'.
She was not lying at all. When I got off the phone with her about 12:30pm I had a balance of -$145. As you read this my account balance is -$320. I haven't made any additional transactions since this fiasco started.
Naysayers, I know what your thinking... You are probably going to say 'You should have been responsible in managing your checking account.' Your right but THATS NOT THE ISSUE. The issue here is that the software kept charging me additional overdraft fees AFTER I bought the account current with NO additional transactions pending.
In Conclusion... let me say this. You have your own opinion of what happened here and that's cool, its the American way. This isn't the first time I have complained to BOA about this problem. There is a glitch in the software and no one is publicly acknowledging the problem. You and I both know that the stock would plummet through the earth if the public knew.
It doesn't matter what you think, its my account, my mistake. I can tell you this NAYSAYERS just don't let this happen to you. Its easy to throw rocks when you don't live in a glass house, isn't it?
If you have a similar story please JOIN complaintsboard and tell us what has happened to you. Thats what I did. If you know a good lawyer have them contact this site and legally get our names so we can file a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against Bank of America.
America, WAKE UP !! The large corporations are draining the life out of the honest people who pay taxes. Stop Complaining and talk amongst yourselves and Complain and Protest. You dont have to march in the streets or have a sit in. You have the INTERNET and other people and friends who have been unfairly taken advantaged of. You are POWERFUL thats why this website exists!!

Bad customer service
During the week of 8Dec2008, I had a notice of insufficient funds notice on my account. I went to the bank and atm machine to make a deposit to get the account out of the red. I later learned there was still another transaction pending that would keep the account in the red. I called customer service and I told them that I was expecting some money the following day and the agent told me to make a deposit by 1100am the following day and to call so that I woludn't get charged an insufficient funds charge. Well, the deposit was made, but I was not able to call until 2pm that same day after I saw that the account was charge the fee ($35). The agent (a different one) I spoke to would not waive the charge even though the agent the day before said they would take care of it after I called. Disatisfied, I demanded to speak to a manager and they told me the same thing. They did state that if I knew the name of the agent that gave me that info, they would give them training on the matter. This is total crap and the best thing BOA could have done is go off the word of what the agent told me the first time. Because of this, I am switching all my accounts to a different bank. I do understand that I have my responsibilities to managae my payments and bank balance, but the complaint here is that Bank of America either has double standards or thier "hired" staff have no clue what they are telling thier customers when they call, not to mention the outrageious fee's!
