Bank of America Reviews

Overcharged
10 overdraft charges in 2 days! Bank of America still approved several transactions although my balance was considerably negative. Bank of America just made $350.00 instantly. It's magic! And clearly consumer fraud. In addition to the overdraft fees generated by BOA's authorizations to transactions, the method of placing high to low transactions will also generate overdraft fees, even if the low transaction occurred 2 days before the high. BOA will place the higher transaction first thus generating more overdraft fees.

Surely this is unacceptable and I will gladly join in on any class action lawsuits that are being filed.

Interest Rate
I took out a loan with Bank of America in April 2008, to consolidate
some debt. These loans are called GoldOption line of credit, and
they charged me 15.99% interest rate. I did not want to accept this
high rate, but felt at the time I had no choice. I have payed on this
account for almost 1 year, and have asked them 2 different times
if they would reduce the interest rate on this loan. I have payed
them more than the payment and early each month. I have a
credit rating of over 700, which means I have paid all my bills
on time. I am a senior and I want to pay this bill off as soon as
I can, that interest is more than half of my payment, even when
paying over $100 extra each month. How can I get these people
to lower my interest rate to at least 10%? I need your help in dealing
with these people, they have only their own business concern and
care nothing about their customer's. I know I accepted this rate,
but it's very discouraging to see the interest rate more than the
payment to the balance of the loan. Do I need to file a complaint
anywhere else? I appreciate your help in this matter.
This bank takes Federal money, but refuses to give any consideration
to it's customers.

Sincerely,

Carol J. Oyler

Customer Service
I deposited a check to my account 2/2/09; it cleared 2/3/09. Then bank of america said the check had a stop payment placed on it 2/5/09 and withdrew the money from my account. 2/9/09 the issuer verified the check cleared with a bank of america representative over the phone; but bank of america would not restore the funds to my account without a copy of the check; needless to say this will probably take 7 to 10 business days. in the meantime my checking account is overdrawn; and bank of america has still not admitted to their error.

Unprofessional and Rude
We will be switching banks completely due to the rude and unprofessional service that we have repeatedly received at the Conshohocken branch on Fayette St.

The employees are unwilling to explain the terms and conditions even when asked direct questions regarding accounts. They have continually mishandled our accounts, given us incorrect information, and refused to follow up on problems brought to their attention.

They have resorted to name calling customers and yelling in front of other customers and have revealed incidents and information regarding our accounts to members of the local public while consuming alcohol at local establishments.

Completely unprofessional, both inside and outside the office. Not the type of company or people that you want to have access to your financial information.

Unfair charges
Wow!! Bank of America is a complete rip off. They manage to make millions of dollars off of its members by charging a $6.00 fee for cashing a check to a non-member. This is absolutely crazy!!! I told this to my bank, Peoples United Bank and they were SHOCKED!!! They said that was amazing. I travel a lot. This year to India. I took my Bank of America debit card because my bank strip off of my People's debit card failed to read the strip the day before I was to leave. I shifted money to my Bank of America account, which I never use and when I returned from my trip I had tons of 3% international fees added to my checking and debit card account. I was amazed. I have NEVER, EVER been charged fees for using my credit card before. This bank currently is facing a law suit and by the looks of it, will find themselves facing other charges. I think a revolution where everyone closes every account in their names. What other hidden ways are they cheating us? Speak out and let the cheaters be made known. I have canceled all of my accounts. I went on line and realized there are many angry people. Beware of this bank.

freezing home equity account
The Bank of America has frozen my home equity account. They maintain that the price of houses in this are is the reason for the change.

The original line of credit amount was based on the value of my home in 2004. As you can well imagine, the value of my home increased more in that time than it has declined during the recent housing crisis. Obviously the given reason for the freeze is bogus.

Ironically, my entire borough was reassessed and I received the new assessment from my town today. Even that is greater than the basis used for my home equity line of credit in 2004.

And to add insult to injury, there were two other mailings from BA. One, I received a letter from BA saying I had been pre-approved for a loan up to $30, 000. I also received notice of my next HE payment and included with that was a "check" to use for transferring a high-interest balances.
BOA Complaints February 2, 2009
Credit Card Rip Off charges
Bank of America probably got hammered by legislation that does not allow them to arbitrarily jack up interest fees to 32%

So I noticed that BOA and Capital One have a new trick. They can simply print the minimum payment on the statement. But this does not reveal that if you do not pay the full amount to get the balance low enough, they can charge you an over-the-limit fee.

Both banks did that to me this month. What a scam - not telling you the actual amount to whittle down the balance so that you can avoid a late fee.

And I doubt there is anything I can do about it. They know that defaulting wrecks your credit.
