Bank of America Reviews

THIEVES
I am a single mother, self employed (in Real Estate), credit score well over 800, and pay for my son's college (couldn't get grants, etc... made too much money!). I don't have enough "credit" open to get a higher score... give me a break. I pay off my credit card monthly, that hurts my score!
Recently I applied for an equity line on my home, that I have over $400k in equity... NO other debt! I was turned down, because I AM IN REAL ESTATE. I planned to use this money, only if necessary... to have that cushion. I asked for only $200k of the $400k I have!

I pay for my health insurance ($400/month), owe two vehicles, a rental property, never had late payments... yet the thieves at the banks (the cornerstone of our crisis) have denied me this credit. I am appauled. It would be easy for me to just NOT pay my bills and be irresponsible, but that is not the American way and I won't. WE must do something about this lock up at the banks for which WE are saving. I am loosing much faith in our system... PLEASE HELP!
BANK OF AMERICA... GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK!!!

With kind regards,
Cindy

Ripoff for Closing of Account Fee
Opened a checking account and received several welcome letters from Bank of America. Deposited over $500.00 to the account and the following week received a letter from them telling me that they were closing my account due to "Multiple Users of Social Security number". After many attempts to clear this banking error up, to no avail - I was then charged $60.00 as a fee for the bank's closing of the account! I have not received any of my monies back yet and it has been over one month since I made the deposit. My next step will be to go to the media for exposure of this bank's methods of stealing monies from innocent people.

Destroyed my credit
I ran a credit report on myself as I do annually. Having an 800+ credit score for over a decade I was shocked to see a defaulted account with BOA. I went to my local branch who attempted to help and a week later while on vacation I tried to use my debit card from BOA and realized $4500 was stolen from my account by guess who... BOA. They said they had the right to take it as it was in default, despite the fact that I called them and filed a formal dispute. After having family wire money so i could eat i called my attorney who convinced them it was an illegal action. They still have yet to rectify and are trying to hold me liable for a co-workers credit card, even after the credit app. lists NO such person. My credit is destroyed and I am forced to sue them. Worse I have an application for me which was forged and in the same handwriting as the internal bank papers for which i had no access. I have recently sold a home and have capital to buy a new one yet my rotten credit score will not allow. To add insult to injury the existing BOA card was cancelled and they raised the interes rate to 29.9% without even telling me. It is a discrace that we bail the criminal out and the still rob from the working Joe to give their lavish bonuses. They make Berni Madoff look innocent. I pray I get my day in court.

Overcharged
On 2/04/08 my local branch of Bank of America changed their ATM to a new machine that counts your cash and scans your checks for you. This 'added convenience' was so that all cash deposits or cash portions of your deposits would be 'immediate' as their ATMs, tellers, and fliers for their new machine states.

I had 2 large transactions that were coming out of my bank on 02/05/08, and needed to deposit $200.00 dollars into my account to cover the transactions. I called my local branch to see what time they were open until so that I could schedule a break from work accordingly, and was told that it was OK if I could not make it in time because the new machine (ATM) would deposit my cash immediately.

Well lo and behold that this is not true. My cash deposit from the new ATM took just as long as it did on the old ATM to deposit into my account, 2 days. This caused me to obtain 3 overdraft charges for $35.00 each, a total of $105.00.

I called customer service expecting to clear up the matter quickly. Why wouldn't it be easy, their own written advertisement states 'Immediate credit for cash deposits'? As it was explained to me by three different customer service agents this just means that I could spend the deposited money, not that I actually had the money. Well of course I didn't have the money; I gave it to you to collect interest on for 2 days along with millions of other lied to customers of your establishment. The charges were not reversed due to the fact that they were not 'banking errors' it was my misunderstanding of what 'they' consider to be immediate.

After all of this I took another look at my account and noticed that the items I was being charged overage fees for, were Items that were paid for BEFORE the items that overdrew my account. Just to verify I called and got the dates and times of the transactions. The bank had charged me fees for items that were put through on 02/03, and 02/04. Mind you the transactions that caused this were not until 02/05.

I asked why this was so being that even though I should have no ODC's I have three where at most I should have one. I was told that the larger items are put through first, 'for my protection'. The smaller items, although they were posted first are moved to the end of the days transactions despite the order the payments were actually made, once again 'for my protection'.

So, I was not only charged for one overdraft item from the 'immediate' deposit not truly being immediate, but I was then charged 2 more times 'for my protection'. I find it very strange that the time of my deposits are critical, but the times of my transactions are irrelevant. Enjoy my $105.00. It will be the last penny you see from me.

By the way... Fraud, False Advertisement, and Theft appear to be common practices from Bank of America. I have never had any problem like this with ANY other institution I have or still use. I hope this someday comes to an end; I would hate to be the company whose slogan is 'We make money because we take yours.â€Â

Should anyone need more information for their own needs, I do have all times, dates, and documents to support every word of my statement stored away for a rainy day.

Outrageous theft
This bank is the worst. They changed my APR rate from 10.24 to 19.99 without contacting me. When I realized it had changed I called them and the refused to change it. They said the change was due to me having a high revolving balance with them. Okay, this is true, but think about this. A customer has a high balance, does it make sense to jack up their rates so it's harder for them to pay down this balance. Hmm...I would say no! Well, long story short I argued back and forth with them and they wouldn't budge so I reported them to them better business bureau. We'll see what happens. This bank is horrible! The first thing i'm doing when I pay off my credit card is closing it down.

ATM Machines
I do not feel like standing in line, or bad weather to deposit cash and checks -one at a time- ( which by the way takes longer) without an envelope.

It is annoying, defenitely not safe at certain hours, takes longer.

Who is the Genius at Bank of America Corporate Office implemented this idea?

Rip off
In September (2008) My husband and I were forced to take out another credit card to pay for our 1 month old sons funeral. He passed away from a horrible and painful disorder called CDH, he never even got to come home. Well because of him being in the Nicu my husband used FMLA to be with him as much as he could. We did not get paid for half of August and half of September. We then had to use the card to pay some bills, since we had no income for a whole month. We THOUGHT the card was no interest for a year, Thats what we applied for when they sent us the offer, but they gave us a different one instead I guess. Well we were close to the limit and the lovely finance charge came, and that put us over the limit and a fee was assessed. I called the company and got a real nice lady and she explained to me how to not let it happen again, I just had to make a payment of $100 within a week. I made $125, that way we would be ok. Well I logged onto my account and saw yet another over limit fee, for no reason, I was nowhere near over limit. So I called and got some Asshole (supposed Manager) and he told me that when your card goes over you have 20 days to fix it, I called on the 21 day. You see if you dont fix it in 20 days they charge you again. Well when I called the first time they did not tell me this. Had I not made that extra $25 on my payment we would be in a downward spiral of over limit fees. The 2nd "customer service" (I use that term lightly) agent could care less and said that they already gave me back one of the fees so they will not do it again, even when it is their fault for not telling me all of this info. If they would have given us the card they offered, the one we signed up for this never would have happened. I have a few credit cards and thought HSBC was horrible, think again, at least they work with you a little bit (besides that credit protection they keep "forgetting" to take off, but don't forget to charge us for) We have great credit but I am willing to hurt it a little by canceling my account with them. Horrible, Horrible customer service, if you can even call it that.

Fraudulent charges
Bank of America unethical business practices has hit the lowest of the lows. Compare them to any subprime lending institution, they would be rate #1.

Bank of America deliberately, fraudulently changes due date of credit card...then they CHARGES customers a $39 dollars late fee. I was informed by Bank of America after complaining that they can change due date and that the dates can vary from 1-4 days, whatever, whenever they chooses. Bank of America states to me that I should have ' Read the very fine PRINT'.

Bank of America, you are the worst. You are the reason that banks are going under today.

NSF Fees
I believe BOA has charged me error on numerous occasions...Last Fri. 2/6 I made a couple of purchases, I realized I was in the negative so I made deposit by close of business day to cover the item pending which put in positive.

That Mon. 2/9 I needed unexpected auto repair. On 2/9 I was charged 2 $35.00 NSF for the item on Friday 2/6 & NSF of the transaction on Monday = 105. How is that possible. Let me mention I made a $200 on 2/10.

The Customer Service Rep and the Mgr. said b/c I swipped my card on 2/9 it caused them item on 2/6 to overdraw, even though I had the funds to cover the item on Friday. The mgr. went to say that 1) Funds must be available the day you swipe your card & 2) the day the merchant sends in the receipt.

Funny thing about that my account never shows me in the negative for the transactions done on Friday but yet I was charged $70 bucks which casued a ripple of affect so know I have incurred about $140 dollars worth of NSF fees.
