Bank of America Reviews

August 23, 2007
Interest rate nearly triples
I have a credit card with Bank of America and recently ran into some financial issues after a family concern. When I spoke to the bank they agreed to work with me.

On Aug 6, 2007 I was sent a letter by Reginald Miles who said if I paid $65 by August 23rd (today), that would help me from falling further back. I received calls daily, sometimes 3-4 a day.

So I spoke to Bank of America and advised I was prepared to pay $800 over 2 payments in the next week. They assurred me that would get me back in good graces. So I paid $800 between Aug 8th and August 14th.

Then today I got a statement and my APR went from 12% to 30.24%

when I called for asistance a man named Ben on their 800# said he had the final say and nothing could be done. I asked for a supervisor and he said again, he was the "final say".

Bank of America is worse than a loan shark and when I tried to work something out, they declined any assistance.

Don't ever get involved with Bank of America because they have a long history of ripping off their customers. I have been in touch with the local ABC affiliate who will include a copy of my statement showing the 30.24% in their upcoming series on "Credit Card rip offs"

Be careful, be very careful with mortgage!
I caution any one that has a mortgage with Bank of America to be VERY CAREFUL! My dad and I share a mortgage with Bank of America, and Bank of America changes their billing address from time to time and if you do not receive an address change from them or you miss it in the mail Bank of America does receive your payments but now it is at what they consider to be the wrong location and this department holds your payment and will not forward your payment to the new billing address. Then when you fall behind on your mortgage they foreclose on you! This is what happened to my dad and I had to file chapter 13 for him to keep his property! I make payments for my dad via online banking with my bank and my bank actually sent BOA a letter asking them to withdraw their foreclosure proceedings, cancel any late charges applied to his account and restore his good credit because my bank had proof copies of all the checks that went un-cashed. They were sent on time but to the now wrong location because Bank of America had changed their billing address and unfortunately for us we did not receive a change of billing address notification this time, yes they have changed it before but we caught it that time. The request from my bank was refused! Why? My bank told me straight up that this is how Bank of America got to be so big! They deliberately change billing address from time to time and if you miss it for what ever reason Bank of America then forecloses because they don't receive your payments! They receive the payments, but it's the wrong department and they just don't forward them! Proof? After chapter 13 was filed we received back one of the first checks that BOA claimed that they didn't receive, it was dated pre-foreclosure! They just flat held it until the chapter 13 was filed then sent it back. Had I not filed the chapter.13 BOA would have legally defrauded my 82 year old dad out the land he worked so hard for most of his life. If you have a mortgage with Bank of America "BE CAREFUL, BE VERY CAREFUL"! Check up on your billing address at least every six months.

Check Cashing
Went to B/A in Las Vegas, Nevada located on Martin Luther King and Washington Boulevard August 3, 2007 to cash a Credit Card Check which my fiance had given to me for $175.00. when I got to the window the male clerk took my driver license which had the exact same information (address) as printed on the check, he verified the funds then came back to the window and said he couldn't cash the check because my drivers license was not 30 days old. So then I showed him my employee cards, which are all dated and had my picture on them (Sheriff card, Alcohol Permit, Health and Tam Card he said he could accept these. I had a change of address he said he had no way of verifing that and this is bank policy. I asked to speak with the supervisor she also agreed that I could cash the check even though the funds were available unless I had a military identification card or passport, she went on to say that this is Bank of America policy. So then I went to another Bank of America they said because it did not have the Bank of America on the check they could not cash it (Rancho Drive and Craig Road), I said well the other said they could cash because my drivers license was not 30 days old. I called the call center, one person said that is not true about the drivers license and then another said it was true, that what they wanted was for me to open an account and deposit the funds into the bank. The reason I went there was because I needed the funds immediately or I would have deposited it into my account. What happens when someone wants to open, withdrawal funds they are new in the state and they don't have a military or passport how do they get their money? When their drivers' license is not 30 days old? Yet each person said that each Bank of America has their own policies as to the acceptance of check cashing, to me this is unacceptable. Bank of America is Bank of America, their policy and procedure are based on however each bank wants to do? It showed me that there is no uniformity within their system of banking.

Poor service!
Have been a BOA customer over 10 years, each time I go in they insist that I need to have a an ATM card to receive cash over $1,000 when making a deposit. They can clearly see that my balance will cover any amount of cash received. This is bank policy I was told by the manager in charge and that I would need it to continue getting cash back. I have told them that I will not get an ATM card and that I could go to any other bank for better service, their comment is that they are sorry that I feel that way, end of conversation. Bank policy is very poor when trying to receive your own money from the bank.

Excessive fees!
I went to my Bank of America to withdraw a sum from my savings account to invest in another bank that paid higher interest. I asked for a Cashier's Check, & was informed that the fee would be $6.00. Since BOA had only paid me $6.45 interest in the past 4 months, I thought this was ridiculous. Rather than submit to this form of "bank robbery", I took my money in cash. BOA has forgotten that good customer relations rely on the small courtesies and services that only a bank can offer to its customers, including reasonable fees for such services. Gouging customers with excessive fees is not good business. The next thing they may do is install toll booths at their doors and charge a buck to enter the bank.

Poor, poor customer relations skill
Extremely rudeness; recharged a $19.52 charge that her own bank had admitted a mistake. Was discorteous and not once said anything when i said if this was the way this bank operated, i would close my cd, checking and savings account. All they have to offer is... service. I don't even know this lady, but i have a master's degree in business (mba) and i know how to treat five year customers. There was absolutely no customer service skill displayed and she actually seemed happy to fill out the paperwork to close my five year account. Poor, poor customer relations skill.

Poor service!
The bank of America located in abingdon md has a particular women named debbie glemming whom purposely i9ngnoreed returning my calls for over 4 hours. And when i asked for a manager they told me he was at lunch. Mind you this was at 3pm! I will never bank there again and i have at least a half dozen other tails i could tell about that location.

Unprofessional personal bankers
I informed the personal banker to make sure that a CD I had with them does not renew. I did the same via email as I am currently traveling and won't be back in the states until September. However, he does not read by email, nor does he stop the renewal of the CD, which has resulted in me getting stuck with the low interest CD for another month. Can anyone get me the contact details for the consumer grievance cell of Bank Of America.

Thanks
Pranay
