Fraudulent Collections Attempt
I am having an insanely difficult time remedying a bogus collection attempt by Afni, which operates in Bloomington, IL. Afni has placed a damaging credit item on my credit report, but has failed to provide me with any details of the debt. The Denver telephone account in question was paid in full and closed five years ago.
There is nothing to verify the alleged debt for me, though Afni had no problem verifying the debt for the credit reporting agencies when I disputed the account.
After requests on Sept 11 and Sept 12 (telephone and written) for Afni to mail me a list of itemized charges nothing was sent. I called them on Oct 13, and they informed me that a "cease communication" request kept them from communicating at all, despite the fact my certified letter (which they received) prohibited phone calls BUT expressly requested a mailed paper copy of the bill. They assured me today that it would be sent out by USPS as per my initial request.
My credit report was fantastic before this. Now it is damaged, and I still don't know what the alleged debt is for. I attempted to contact the original creditor, but they have no account details since Afni purchased the alleged years-old debt.
Additionally, Experian reported that this debt was "verified and updated, " which scares me. I have not made any payments on the fraudulent debt, though it seems Afni is trying to re-start/re-age the time limit on their collection efforts. I have neither time nor credit reporting protocol on my side. This country's economic woes are bad enough without Afni's antics and I can't believe they are allowed to operate in this manner.
If I have any recourse, or if Afni's business practices are being addressed, I'd love to know.
Take care,
Jeremy

Fraudulent Verizon Bill
This company has sent repeated collection notices to me regarding a 7 year old bill allegedly from Verizon Select Services Inc. for $178.94. I've called Verizon and verified that I do not owe any amount for this account, and that the account was closed by Verizon and never sent to collections. When I called Afni, Inc., "Stacia" told me repeatedly that Verizon was wrong, that they have a statement from Verizon requesting that Afni collect money from me, and that whoever I spoke to at Verizon has no idea what they're talking about because they can't access my old account anymore since it's been purchased by Afni. This is fraudulent.

Fraudulent bill
Afni is on my credit report. They say I owe charter communications 75.00 from November of 2004! I have service with charter now. I am pretty sure if I owed them money they would have cut off my service by now. Not only that, when O called to ask Afni about this, I was on hold for 14 mins before anyone answered my call. Then I told the lady that I have charter now and I am sure I don't owe the money. She told me that I do owe it and that I have service with them because I am in different area now (I still live in the same county I have always liven in.). I asked her to send my proof. She said she would and told me to have a nice day. I asked her where she was gong to send the proof to. She then told me that she needed my address because she didn't have a current address. Needless to say, she did not get my address! These people are trying to take advantage of people and I know that a lot of people will pay these sort of things just to get it off their credit report and be done with it. Please fight this. Do not give them money to keep running their scam!

Debt collections
This company placed a collection on my credit report for $188 from Cingular. I have never had Cingular service. I have sent them a dispute letter many times, asking for validation of this debt. They either don't respond at all, or respond to tell me they can't verify anything because I haven't provided sufficient evidence.
I have demanded that they remove this item from my reports, but they refuse. I have complained to the BBB, and the FTC. Nothing. The credit bureaus won't do anything about it because Afni keeps "verifying" the account to them. How are they "verifying" anything to the bureaus if they don't actually have anything to verify it to me?
Afni, Inc. out of Bloomington, IL are scum. Bottom feeding debt collectors who don't play by the laws. They have many FDCPA violations now and I plan on suing them.

fradulant billing
this acct is not mine; it's for Dish Network that I never had at this time. I also never lived at the address it was associated with. I disputed it once when listed through ER Solutions and it was removed from my credit report. Then appeared again under AFNI, INC. I cannot find a physical address for this so that I can write them and when I disputed online thru Experian, AFNI reported back as this was a correct billing. They are lying through their very souls. IT is causing my credit rating to be lower. I am at my wits end. Cannot figure out what else to do. This is not my account and I wish companies like this who just won't do things honestly can be held accountable for ruining someones credit. I am really angry. It wouldn't have been removed the 1st time had it not been invalid. Any ideas what to do next?

Scam!!! Harassing phone calls
My mother receiving letters and harassing phone calls from Afni, Inc. The letters are stating that she owes $350.15 from a Cingular account she (supposively) had back in 2000. It's obviously a scam from what i'm getting from all the investigating I've done. I went back to the comments on this site in 2007 and their is an Attorney from New York that states to contact your local police department, State Attorney General, FTC (Federal Trades Commision). Be sure to check your credit report because alot of us are seeing this company put fradulent bills on our credit. He was saying that if anyone wants to join him in making a joint complaint suit on Afni then to email him, he says its better to have several complaints then 1 (1 complaint is more likely to get dismissed, a huge amount would be better). I agree with him on this, he also said that he has practiced law for 18 years, he plans to not only sue Afni, Inc. but also Verizon. Well my case is Cingular, but if he is certain to do something about this then maybe we can too, maybe we can get people going through the same thing together and find someone to represent us together, or individually. He made a huge point, that Afni is using the State of Illinois as a base for their fradulent & possible criminal activity.
My mother has cronic Lupus, and the stress of this all has made her more sick, They call her everyday and when she asked the guy to stop calling he yelled at her and told her "he will call ANYTIME he wants" well not if I can do anything to stop them. I want this company to suffer for what they have put my mother and all of you through. Please join me in taking the steps the attorney says to take (the steps I listed above) If I can help any of you with anything, don't hesitate to email me above.
By the way, the Attorneys name that wrote the comment is Robert Kingman from New York,
Also Afni's license (which might come handy while filing your complaint with your states Consumer Affairs) # 1072175
God Bless!!! Michelle Werner

fraudulent bill for collection!
I was denied for credit because of a false report from Afni, Inc. They said verizon put this account in to collection. I have never had a verizon phone or any kind of service with them. When I did a search on the internet there was another person from Nampa, Id that the same thing happened to. He said he paid the bill to get it off of his credit report. Is there more out there like this? Sounds like a scam to me.

Fraudulent collection agency!
AFNI, Inc. has been mailing fraudulent collections claims for telephone services from Verizon Inc. with a number that does not belong to me, nor have I ever done business with Verizon. I have researched a history of fraud and complaints regarding AFNI, Inc. and is a phishing scam with potential for identity theft.

Harassment!
This is no Joke. A company called AFNI, Inc. P.O. Box 3472 in Bloomington, Il. 61702 is a third party collections company. They buy old worthless, incorrect and often out of statute of limitations debt portfolios.
Recently, ANFI, Inc. sent out a second notice collection bill on an old phone account through Verizon California Inc. they said I owed from 2001. Note I never received a first notice. They offered to settle for half of what they said I owed, about $45.00. Dumbfounded I knew I never had any account of any kind with Verizon, so I called Verizon Cal. Inc. and spoke to Eric, Feb. 2008. He looked in his data base for my name, SS and the phone number. He said there was nothing about me in any of their files. He also said the phone number wasn't even a Verizon number. So I did a phone number search at my own expense and found out what I already knew, it was not mine.
I checked my credit reports and found in violation of the Fair Debt Reporting Act they also placed this bill on my consumer’s credit reports without ever notifying me, and re-aged it from 2001 to 2007, which is also against the law. If you receive one of these bills from AFNI, Inc. and you know that you had never had Verizon; or if it is a bill you never heard of before, check your credit reports right away.
I checked other web sites and found out a lot about AFNI, Inc. scamming people, not just a few but hundreds, thousands across the USA. I then disputed the bill by Certified letters. Also, I filed with my state’s Attorney General and the IL. A.G., the FTC, and the BBB and every web site I can to get the word out on these scum. The IL. BBB says that AFNI, INC. says it is my bill from 2001, but they have not validated it yet. Even if it were mine, it is out of SOL in California. I am not sending them one red cent and will sue them if they continue to report this on my CR or sell this worthless paper to another debt agency.
I have heard to NEVER, NEVER call AFNI, Inc., as they will capture your phone number and start calling and harassing you; AND NEVER give them your Information as they will use anything against you. For More Information on the AFNI, Inc. scam check BudHibbs.com or simply type in consumer complaints AFNI, Inc. into your search the web box. There are hundreds of complaints against these scam artists.
Only by banding together and filing reports against AFNI, Inc. can consumers shut these guys down.
Best of luck everyone!
