Paid bill
I had an account with Verizon which was closed, supposedly by another cable company I signed up with. Finding out that it wasn't closed, a few months after the fact, Verizon were still billing me which I tried to dispute. After fighting it out with new cable company for neglect on their part for not contacting Verizon (which they said they would do), I agreed to pay up Verizon but by this time it went to collection. I agreed on a settlement amount and made a substantial payment Few months later Afni (different from first collection agency) sent me a letter stating that I owed $567 and that payments made to first CA did not count. I called first CA and they said acct. sent back to Verizon and they sent it out to Afni. (Hang with me). Third CA called after this and agreed that I only owed remaining money from original CA and acct closed. Months after I believed everything was settled I get letter again from Afni.
I also believe this was reported on my credit report. In the process of running one now.
Mad as heck!

I received two letters at the same time for the same number from verizon. I did have this number but never with verizon. It is very odd that they are in my maiden name and have never showed up on my credit report. I have cleaned up my credit and know there is nothing. It is very odd that they would rather settle for a lesser amount than to take the full amount. My letters also have no date of when this is from. I can't beleive people can get away with stealing from others and its perfectly legal.

This Company is commiting a crime
Yesterday I recieved a collection notice from Afni claiming I owed $184.20 on an old T-Mobile bill from 2003. When I called to dispute it I was told it was for T-Mobile home service from 1999-2003. They insisted I owed this old bill. I did some research. I call T-Mobile and they did not offer home service until Jan. 2009 and then only as supplement to cell phone account customers. They had no record of the account number on the notice and no record of my ever having an account with them. The whole thing was a fraud. What is so frightening is these identity theives are able to obtain our pertinent information to commit their crimes, I notified authorities but how are these criminals still in business?

False Bad Credit Report ATT/Cingular
Three years after Cingular sent me a paid in full invoice with a thank you, I get a nasty note from afni.Inc. The letter said I had an outstanding Cingular bill for $299 that was three years old. I called afni and spoke with the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune to speak with. I wanted to get to the bottom of what I was certain was a mistake. He won’t say anything except that if I did not make a partial payment immediately he was going to trash my credit. I was polite but firm, I wasn’t going to pay anything until I was certain I owed it.

BIG MISTAKE. That heaping pile of parrot droppings at anfi slammed my credit, most likely the moment I hung up. However, I did not know that at the time. I immediately called Cingular. They admitted that they had screwed up by sending a final bill, one they had not told me about on the phone, to my son’s college address SIX months after he’d graduated. I paid on condition that they call off anfi. The polite, but apparently clueless CS Rep, assured me that Cingular would do the right thing. WRONG!

BOTTOM LINE: Even though I have never missed a payment or been late on any payment EVER. AMEX lowered my credit limit without bothering to tell me my cards were over the limit. For the first time in my long life, I had my cards refused at a merchant to my deep embarrassment.

False Bil
I appear to one of thousands in this country who has received a statement from AFNI, Inc claiming I owe money for a "Qwest" telephone bill from 2002. The bill is from Phoenix, AZ and I was living in Chicago in 2002. They cannot even spell my last name correctly nor get my gender right!

I send a dispute letter to AFNI in November, copying it to the BBB of IL and the TX Attorney General (I now live in Dallas). Currently, BBB of IL is handling my complaint. I continue to disagree w/ AFNI's response (they responded Dec. 1st) as they claim to have obtained this Qwest bill after 2 other collection agencies tried to collect. I have NEVER been contacted by any collection agency in reference to this bill and it has never shown up on my credit report (and still doesn't) and I have good credit. They provided a vague bill w/ little detail and w/o letterhead...they claim this is what they received from Qwest. One more thing, upon my initial phone call, I asked them to verify my social security number and they had it on file! This was very frightening... I truly don't understand how they are getting away w/ this...

I'm really disturbed that so many people are affected by this company. This company appears to conduct business in a dishonest fashion and are unwilling to provide information to either prove or disapprove that money is owed. I hope that my situation can be resolved as I feel that I am being harassed to pay a bill that was never mine to begin with.

Fraudulent Collection Attempt
Afni, Inc sent me a collection notice on November 3, 2008 stating that I owed Verizon Virginia Inc a balance of $116.42 and Afni could not furnish me with the Verizon account number, the phone number or even the dates involved ! I contacted Verizon who said my account has ALWAYS been current and there are NO PAST DUE AMOUNTS ! This is obviously a fraudulent attempt to collect money and I am notifying the FTC, Virginia Consumer Protection and Better Business Bureau of Afni's action.
