Vusalela Day Spa Reviews

Cloe April 28, 2011
Horrific Expierence
Firstly I did not anticipate sitting at the gate for 10 minutes waiting for someone to open. When we finally gained entrance we were met by the therapist, which seemed friendly and capable and was taken to the restaurant, where we were served something to drink and “snacks” (3 little pieces of quiche which we had to share). Before we could finish we were rushed off to go change into our DAMP and very large robes (after our sizes where emailed as per their request). Then we had the luxury of getting onto a wet golf cart with our damp robes and taken to our first treatment. As we entered the room I already started dreading what lied ahead. It seemed to be a storeroom that was divided, with two massage beds on a dirty carpet.

After requesting a MEDIUM body massage for both of us, the therapists preceded to merciless pound us. I was grateful when she stopped occasionally to boil the kettle to heat up the stones that she then used to burn us. The already painful experience was high lighted by the thumping music from the neighbours, continues roaring of the golf cart and stones being dropped on the tiles (as they were clearly too hot for the therapist to handle). Our sore and burnt bodies where then cooled down by the damp robes and wet golf cart as we were taken back to the restaurant where I could finish my glass of wine that I left behind an hour earlier.

We got to the second treatment and to my amazement this resembled more of the atmosphere I expected. Unfortunately my relief was short lived as the therapists got hold of our feet. The foot scrub was painful. At this point we were both praying that it would end, and was elated to hear that we were going for dinner.

Back at the restaurant we were served a wilted salad, and a cold pancake with something that resembled curried chicken. A far cry from a “romantic dinner”.

But the end was not insight as the most painful experience was yet to come. We were shuffled into a tiny little section of the deck covered with canvas for the Indian Head massage. Perched on two chairs and covered with towels, hungry and cold we requested a heater. A maintenance person came and connected the heater, very loudly while we had our treatments. The friendly but clearly unqualified therapists then continued to “attack” our neck and shoulders and we had to stop before they could reach our heads. The big heater in the small space and painful massage was eventually too much to bear for my partner and he asked to leave. Upon departure we received our “Amarula and chocolates” (also not what I expected). We decided to skip coffee and made a speedy exit as it was clear that all the staff was waiting for us to leave and we did not feel safe being the only guests on the property with no security guard in sight.

I would like to stress that my partner and I go for regular spa visits and are well-versed in what these types of treatments should feel like and how it should be administered. We have very serious doubts about the training and qualifications of the therapists, and would not go through what we experienced even if you paid me; therefore we requested a refund.
We got a reply from the spa, just basically telling us we are lying and they have a "no refund policy".
Do not waste your money on this place!!
