I would like to highlight a dangerous issue regarding the installation of unearthed power points to my apartment unit by Gary Kong, a contractor of Cheong Kin Construction & Renovation Sdn. Bhd.

This incidence happened more than a year ago. One year ago, I purchased a new apartment unit and appointed Gary Kong to renovate my kitchen and add power points in my unit. The invoice was dated on 19 Oct 2008. After the completion of the renovation and power point installation, I moved in by the end of Dec 2008.

Recently, one of my power point was faulty. And I asked my cousin-in-law, who is also an electrical man, to check on the power point on 30 Nov 2009. To my dismay, the power point was not earthed. Then, he quickly helped me to check the others, again, they were not earthed. I definitely felt angry as how can a contractor allowed the installation of unearthed power points. I have been using these power points for ironing, vacuuming ect. for the last one year, this unearthed power points posed a major risk to the safety of my family members and me for the past one year. Fortunataly nothing has happened for the past one year.

Thus, I quickly called Gary Kong, and he pushed all the responsible to the wireman. He did not offer any help but instead asked me to contact his wireman directly. I contacted the wireman and he pretended as if he did not know. He promised me to come and check the power points on the same day but he did not turn up.

I am not sure whether the wireman will come. If he did not come, what can I do?

The main issue is how can we allow this dangerous and irresponsible contractor around. If he did this dangerous thing to me, he will do this to others. (earthing of a power point is a fundamental of power point installation, i am sure the wireman is aware of it)
Please investigate and give the company a lesson. I am willing to provide you the proof.
