Travelocity Rewards Reviews

Travelocity rewards is a scam
Beware of Travelocity rewards/american express (issued by Barclays Bank)! They can zero out your points at their whim, and you have no recourse! I lost over $1, 000 worth of points... for details, read on.

I have been a member of Travelocity's rewards/travel points for several years. I had over 50, 000 unused points (I think it was actually over 60, 000, but I can't find out anymore because they're erased and my balance now says ... 0).

One day this Spring, I accidentally attempted to make a payment from the wrong bank account to my Travelocity Amex card balance. The payment bounced, and I promptly called them up to explain the accident, telling them I would make it right. But it was too late. I found out that they had already closed my account because of my "credit risk" (I haven't been late on a single payment for this card or any others in over three years). Apparently after the bounced payment, they saw that I sold my house and moved recently, which caused my credit score to drop ... and that made me a "risk".

Despite having the complete runaround on the phone through their Indian call center, I finally reached a person who seemed friendly. He said the only thing I could do to preserve my points was to open a new credit card with them. He transferred me over and they took my "application" info ... then two weeks later I got a letter saying I was denied (!?!). I've had good credit since 1985, I have a good paying job, I own two businesses ... crazy.

Then I contacted Travelocity directly, and the rep told me there was nothing she could do, that I had to to email their complaints address. I did that - and my email went into the ether, I never heard back.

So, they ended up stealing over $1000 worth of travel points from me on a whim because they randomly decided I was a "risk".

Do not use Travelocity rewards unless you like gambling that they won't suddenly decide that you're a "risk" too - and steal all your points in the process.

Besides, their customer service has really gone downhill, and who wants to deal with a company that's outsourcing jobs to a low paid call center in India with incompetent and unfriendly staff?

Stay away from Travelocity, and especially their rewards program. And if you don't believe me, just look up "Barclays bank" on the complaints board here, and see all the bad experiences people have had with them...

They messed with the wrong person, I'm sure that this one complaint will cost them more than the $1, 000 that they stole from me.

Take that, Travelocity (and Barclays)!
