Days Inn, Pasadena CA Reviews

cindamarie June 28, 2011
HORRIBLE service!
I am writing to tell you of some concerns I have regarding the Days Inn location at 3800 East Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, CA. My husband and I stayed at this location for three nights, 6/24, 6/25. and 6/26/11. The problems began when I went to check us into the hotel. I gave the man at the desk my name. He had a few sheets of paper with what looked like a diagram of the hotel on them. He shuffled through the papers, erasing things and writing things. I was starting to panic that he might not have a room for us, when he finally said we would be in room 110. He then picked up a small pile of card keys that were still in the used envelopes of what, I can only assume, were previous guests. He took two of the envelopes, erased what was on them, wrote "110" on them, and then attempted to code the cards for our room. He was having a very difficult time with this because the magnetic strips on both of them were FILTHY. He tried rubbing them and even wet his fingers and rubbed them along the strips, but they would not work. He took out another two cards, erased what was on their envelopes, wrote "110" and tried again. He was finally able to code the cards and handed them to me in the old, torn envelopes. I asked if there were more parking spaces available. My husband had not been able to come in with me to check-in because there were no available spots. The guy said, "Well, you'll probably have to park on the street." I indicated that I was not pleased with that and he said, "L:ook, it's the weekend. We are full." Much later that night, at about 2:00 a.m., I looked out to check on the car and noticed that there was a spot open in the lot. I went out in my pajamas and moved our car into the lot. I do not understand why a hotel would not have at least one spot per room.

On the morning of 6/25, my husband and I got up to shower. There was no rubber shower mat to protect from slipping in the tub. There were no grab bars. There was not even a recessed soap dish in the wall to hang onto if needed. I have never, EVER stayed at a hotel that did not provide rubber shower mats.

That same afternoon, I came back to the hotel at about 1:00. The room had not been tidied up. The maid appeared to be at the room next door so, even though I wanted very badly to just lay down and rest, I left again so that she would feel free to do our room. I came back an hour later. The room was still not ready. I attempted to call the front office on the phone, just to check and see what time the housekeeper might be going to come to our room. I tried to call for a full 15 minutes without being able to get through. Finally, I just went out to the office. The lady at the desk was just sitting there. I have no idea why she did not answer the phone. She did not know what time the housekeeper would be able to do the room. I asked about the rubber bath mat. She said they did not have any. I told her I was going to be in the room until 2:40 and, after that, I'd really appreciate having the room done. The lady at the desk said, "So you don't want the maid to come for 2 and a half hours?" I said, "NO. I'd like her to come in about half an hour." She said OK. I left at 2:30 and came back at 3:30. The room had not been touched. My husband and I were both very tired and just wanted to take a nap before we had to go back out in the evening. I picked up all the wet, used towels and took them to the front office. (No sense trying to phone them since they don't answer!) I asked if I could please just have some new towels and a bar of soap. There was a different man there then and he said the maid was "Scheduled to do your room right now." Funny, the lady that was there an hour earlier said there was no schedule -- she said the maid just does the rooms "Whenever."

The maid was, indeed, in the room when I got back there. She was very nice. I have no problem with her at all. In fact, I think she is the most intelligent of all the employees I've seen at that hotel!

On Sunday, we did not get maid service at all. No new towels, trash was not emptied, bed was not made up, nothing! We were out of the hotel for most of the day, so we were surprised to come back at 9:30 p.m. and find nothing done. I gathered up the wet, used towels (AGAIN!!) and took them to the front office. After ringing the bell a couple of times, the guy finally came out (the same guy who had checked me in the first night). I asked him if I could get some clean towels and told him that the maid had not been to our room. He gave me the towels and asked me if the "Do Not Disturb" sign had been out on our door. I told him it had been, but only early in the morning. It was gone by 10:00 a.m. or so. Besides, I'd been told yesterday that the maid was "Scheduled" to do our room at 3:30. The guy also asked me, "So what time do you think you can leave tomorrow? 8:00?" I said that we'd probably leave at about 10:00 a.m. or so. He said, "Well, OK." Since check-out time is at 11:00 a.m., I do not know why he felt we should be gone at 8:00.
