service department trying to sell me unneeded parts and services
The service department at the dealership told me I needed parts and services that I did not actually need. In February I brought my truck in for a recall repair. The brake lights on the tail would stop working intermittently, but the brake lights on the cab operated fine all the time. It appeared that they had fixed it. Then, a few days ago I was told my tail brakes lights were out, but the cab light was working fine. I called the dealership, and the gentleman on the phone immediately told me it was probably the brake light bulbs. He said this without even seeing the vehicle. I brought the truck in. A few hours later they called me, saying the brake light bulbs needed to be replaced, and it would cost $57 to replace. I declined. When I got back to work, one of my co-workers noticed my brake lights were all working properly now. So 1 of 2 things has happened here. The problem with the tail brake lights intermittently working and not working has not been fixed, which indicated shoddy troubleshooting by the mechanics. Or they fixed whatever the issue was, and decided to try to make a few extra dollars by telling me I needed to replace the bulbs. This seems especially likely seeing as how the gentleman who set up my appointment on the phone was trying to sell me on the bad bulbs before the truck was even brought in.
